Colorful (Movie)

Both animes deal with death and humanity, morals and choices. They give some insight into the human psyche - why people make the choices that they do and the consequences of those actions - both physically and emotionally. 

Another heart-wrenching anime that deals with death and receiving a chance to redeem or complete something that you once were unable to. Colorful is much more slow paced than Ano Hana at the beginning and the character designs are fairly plain and "normal", taking the realistic approach. As the you continue to watch, the movie really draws you in like Ano Hana and sets up to be a real masterpiece in animation.  

Both deal with issues of depression, fitting in and finding your place in society. It also deals with themes of moral ambiguity and how the search for happiness can lead to what to some would appear to be bad moral behavior. They also both have good character development, writing and plot. 

Both revolve around rebirth and specifically spending your renewed life to discover and absolve yourself of past sin; a lot of imagery is shared as well, with the moments "I" comes back into life resembling very closely Rakka's cocoon dream. 

Death - can one have a second chance at life? Or is life lost forever? Both series delve into similar constructs in different manners, yet are emotionally drawing fro the viewer. 

Both have a similar theme of recovery/redemption, and both deal with similar issues, such as suicide and bullying. 

Although they are quite different in plot, Aku no Hana and Colorful are similar in mood and atmosphere. While watching both of them you can feel a kind of tension. Both of them are psychological dramas with slice of life elements, where protagonists are in a normal everyday situatution first, and as the story goes on, they learn more and more about the dark side of the people around them, and also about themselves. One of the main differences is that Colorful has also supernatural elements and is in general more optimistic than Aku no Hana.  

Momo e no Tegami (A Letter to Momo) and Colorful are both movies that invite drama with their setting and atmosphere. Throughout both movies, there is an inspirational tone that moves the story with its characters along with its similar themes. Both movies have supernatural elements that fuse a bit of reality and fantasy as the characters interact with others. They also deal with the idea of death/or its aftermath. 

The main character causes a mistake in their past they need to fix, but don't know what exactly it was. They spend their time in a child's body during elementary/middle school but with a different mentality than what is expected from other students of their age. Both have a heroine who lives a troubled life and the protagonist tries to get them out of that situation. The major difference in Erased is that the protagonist is still alive in the present, while in Colorful they are in the afterlife.  

Beautiful journey of self discovery and change 

These stories are very similar in plot. Both films follow the idea of living in the body of someone who has passed away. They follow a journey of learning who "you" are, despite being "someone" else. 

I'll start off by pointing out that both of these movies are influenced by a work called the Galaxy Railroad, but that right there for anyone familiar by the classic will realize exactly how these two work are similar. For those who are less aware of the classic that greatly influenced both pieces, these two pieces delve into the intricacies of life and death in different settings, one being in outer space and the other being in a modern, ultra realistic society. They both tackle the themes in a manner which will leave the viewer emotionally drawn in. 

Both are wonderfully animated and are great slice of life/drama stories with supernatural twist. The main characters have to deal with loss and try to change themselves in order to move forward. 

Both about things related to the afterlife. Shigofumi follows some stories related to students and how they cope with their life and what lead to certain situations which is basically the whole premise of Colorful. 

Both deal with suicidal thought and help you to look for bigger picture in the world .Teach us that every life hold value - MC that was given life but refuse to continue while Trickster MC never experience death but he tried to self-harm countless time - Both MC keep living on for the reason of their friend/family .They experience loneliness at first but find that "one person" that help to move forward - Both don't remember about their past at first but we get a hint that it was somehow painful one 

While the stories are compleeetely different, it's by the same director (Keiichi Hara). You notice that too; the art styles very similar and the humour and calm atmosphere too. 

The opening in each is shock me out, it is too good. Colorful show many mysteries and fade the most normal life that we alway live but didnt regconise, while hello world show a most modern world in the future with many confusing things BUT these gave me the same vibe to watch. Both is good 

How is Colorful like Great Teacher Onizuka? Colorful is a straight laced film, while GTO is a silly series. The thing is, they're both quite serious anime. (GTO is just a serious anime that allows itself to get silly at times, and I honestly think that's what makes it so great.) Both anime address Japan's suicide problem (in very different ways). 

These movies like or not have an MC with same fate. Its get another second chance to life. Yet, these two had a lot of different themes, and its fate, but my point of similarities keep simple. Same fate with the reincarnation object get my point to making this recommendations. Its up to you to decide the truth.  

• Both are coming up age story revolves around the theme of friendship and love. • Both the anime try to explore human emotion with lots of happy and sad moment throughout the movie.  

I think that these two anime series go hand in hand cause they both deal with school students, that are going through a very big hardship and are lost and don't really know or acknowledge of what is truly going on. And there is a supernatural/fantasy touch to both of them, so I really align these anime.

The movies are about a boy being placed in another person's existence leading to similar outcomes. They also present a message of respecting people and life. 

Both provide a balanced mix slice of life and drama using the perspective of the difficulty of a youth's life as the story. They both have fairly plain character designs and a magical assistant of sorts to help the main character in their personal struggles. 

Both anime deal with trying to block off the bad memories, someone whose committed suicide, a bit of romance and growing up. 

Both series are done in simular styles. They deal with two individuals who don't fit into their world normally and the issues of starting to fit in. 

Contains similar plot such as achieving the task that has been given to them in order for their wish to be granted. "Kobato." is an anime while "Colorful" is a movie. 

There is no other anime quite like these two films. They are, first and foremost, slow-paced character studies. Pacing is secondary to characterisation. There is also something undeniably 'art-house' about the way they are directed: Honneamise in particular basically being 2D art/animation porn (the time before CG shortcuts were possible), with a wonderful chase sequence. And Colorful has its own intense 'run with girl' scene that has stayed with me. Honneamise is sci-fi (set in an alternate world; about being the first astronaut), where as Colorful is a modern suicide & rebirth tale about a 14-year-old from our world. So, superficially, totally different. BUT, what both movies are truly about is their respective lead characters finding a place for themselves: rising above being an unmotivated nobody in Honneamise and accepting the realities of life in Colorful, whilst being rejected by the person they desire. The vibe this similar characterisation approach gives off is what makes me link the two. The most obvious 'OH SNAP!' similarity would be the rather random rape attempt scenes. Honneamise's seemingly random / serious faced scene is (in)famous, and Colorful had its own - less graphic - abrupt equivalent. The similar(sh) undercurrent running throughout them is why these otherwise very different movies both have such a scene included.  read more 

Both are very introspective with a slow pace and a generally muted color palette.Two sometimes somber, sometimes uplifting anime about loneliness. 

Both of these movies made me laugh and cry. Sometimes I couldn't stand what the characters were doing. However, as the movies go on the characters grow and change discovering new things about life. Even if the plots are different, both movies are about a second chance at life and that's what makes them special. 

Both movies focus on the importance of appreciating what you have, specifically when it comes to family, although be warned Colorful is a much darker movie and doesn't have a romantic subplot.  

It associates itself with overcoming mental illness, also involving science fiction.
