Higashi no Eden Movie II: Paradise Lost

Many things can be said about the second Eden of the East movie "Paradise Lost." The first thing that would probably be mentioned would be "underwhelming" because compared to the TV series, it is. The ending was definitely unexpected, because unlike EotE which is always so fast paced and high thought process, the end simply tells you the story is over without ending. It's a bit unclear whether this is really the end of EotE.

I'm writing this review to urge you to watch this movie regardless of whether some people on MAL told you this movie was "shit" - because it isn't. It's far ... from it, and not only that but this movie also answers a lot of questions about the EotE universe.

Story: 9/10
The story has somewhat departed from it's original venture of romance, action, and global politics and degraded into just politics, but that doesn't make this movie a bad one. The story moves away from Saki and the Eden of the East server and really focuses in on who Takizawa Akira really is. The movie directly picks up where the last left off, where Ropponogi gives Takizawa a private jet and goes to meet the wife of the Prime Minister, doing so because he believes he's the Prime Ministers son. Spoiling too much would ruin the movie for you, but I can promise the suspense that builds is great and resolve is incredibly interesting.

Art and Animation: 10/10
God, I love Production I.G. The animation is nearly the same from the original series and the first movie (as if you didn't already know) and is of course, gorgeous. There's one scene in particular though that has animation elevated on an even higher level than usually seen in EotE and that one scene is probably one of the most powerful. I won't say which one but when you'll see it, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Sound: 9/10
school food punishment did the original ending to TV series and I really liked their sound, so having them do the opening and the ending made me pretty happy. The background music is also not something to leave without mention. The music can get pretty intense at times, and it definitely increases the suspense.

Character: 8/10
EotE is often criticized most harshly for it's characters. Takizawa Akira is the main subject of this movie, and you could technically say this whole series is about him, but that doesn't mean he's the only character that needs to be developed. At the very end of the series we have so many characters that haven't really been cultured into what they could have been. Saki is still just a romantically challenged girl running around Japan trying to find Takizawa, and so on. This movie introduces a couple of new characters too, the Prime Ministers wife, Takizawa's mom, the Prime Minister himself, the ball girls, and most notably Mr. Outside. Ato Saizo is the best new face in this movie. Once again, I'm not going to delve too far in because of spoilers.

Enjoyment: 9/10
Regardless of the last three or so minutes, the enjoyment of this movie for me was a ten out of ten. They really wrapped up the whole EotE story and put a couple of nice bows on it and then all of a sudden, a plot twist end that was very unnecessary came along. Albeit unhappy with this end, I'm not going to take out all my anger on this movie and call it awful. I think this movie has such a low score because like me, many others wanted to see the ending to Eden of the East. Whether this is or not, for now at least, we've reached the end of Eden.

Overall: 9/10
This movie supplements us with so much information on the EotE series, it's hard to miss for fans. It keeps the original dramatic and suspenseful nature of the series without cutting any corners - it's an hour and a half of pure story. After finishing this movie, I'm glad I followed this series all the way through.

As a Higashi no Eden fan, I believe fans deserve a much better ending from writer Kenji Kamiyama. Paradise Lost went against the entire suspenseful plot of the Eden franchise in general. The mystery of the game is inexplicable. There’s no romance between the two main characters. It disappointingly concludes the Higashi no Eden series with illogical conclusions, no clarifications, and even more questions leading to cliffhangers.

This is no longer a dangerous game as it was portrayed to be. Mr. Outside makes an appearance, and he doesn’t fit the script of a criminal mastermind or an evil villain. ... There are last minute changes to the game in the last few minutes of the movie, and it eliminates all of the seriousness that occurred throughout the series thus far. Apart from that, the game ends without revealing the Supporter and explaining anything about how Juiz operates.

As in the anime series, Takizawa ends everything with a bizarre move, and everyone wonders “What is he doing” and “Why is he doing this.” No one knows what Takizawa is thinking, and he never explains himself. Also, it ends in a goofy fashion when the series appeared to be serious.

There is no happily ever after between the two main characters. Nothing changes with Takizawa and Saki, and they spend no alone time together. While Takizawa is dealing with the drama of being the successor to the throne, Saki sets off to search for his long-lost mother. After everything’s over, Takizawa and Saki basically go their separate ways again.

At times like these, I would turn over to the adaptations for an alternative ending. Sadly, there is no manga in relation to Higashi no Eden, and the novels written by Kenji Kamiyama are the same as the TV series.

My advice is to read reviews on Higashi no Eden II: Paradise Lost before beginning the Higashi no Eden series altogether. The series starts on a good note, but the final ending is mediocre and twists the entire plot. If you already watched the series, then you may feel the need to complete it. However, don’t get your hopes up, because the dedication that you put towards the entire series will probably result in a heartbreak.

A disappointing end to what started off as a very intriguing series. I'm sure Eden loyalists will disagree with me. After the rather uneventful first movie I expected movie 2's plot to skyrocket and reach a memorable climax, Instead we have a silly plot, personally I think the plot lost all it's credibility when the selecao began to be granted rather extreme requests e.g. "make me the king of this country" it made me wonder why on earth nobody tried to ask juiz to make them king earlier on.

Takizawa seems to love wiping his memory and regaining it for no good reason other than ... "he doesn't want to bear the guilt of using himself as a scapegoat". At long last the elusive Mr.Outside makes his appearance except he's extremely unimpressive, he doesn't live up to his hype at all. The possibility of Takizawa being the prime-minister's illegitimate son is explored but I won't drag on about the weak plot, I'll let you guys judge it for yourselves. One thing I will mention is that the ending is left open, that's right OPEN! After the ordeal of having to wait for 2 very stagnant movies I believe that as viewers we deserved a decisive ending. To me the ending felt like more of a make-shift conclusion to a plot that had spiraled out of control, they had to wrap it up in this movie so they ended it abruptly. Nothing gets me more worked up than when good shows are given bad endings. It's almost as bad as the disappointment I felt when playing Lost Planet 2 (a game that i still pretend doesn't exist).

The only thing I enjoyed about this movie was the very atmospheric soundtrack. The only reason this movie is getting a 7 from me is because it's riding on the success of the anime series, Part of me still wants to give it a 6! If you've seen the series there's no way you're not going to watch this so the only advice I can offer is not to go into it with very high expectations because they will be quashed.

With this second movie, Paradise Lost, the Eden of the East franchise comes to a close. And what a ride it has been!

This movie picks up from the exact moment where the first movie finished. Akira and Saki are on a plane that’s on its way to Japan. There, they meet with the late Prime Minister’s wife and get things sorted out. Meanwhile, the other Selecao start plotting their way to victory. That’s about all I can ... say without revealing any spoilers.

Right, this movie is more action packed than the previous one, in a way more different than you think, because when I say action packed, I don’t mean car chases and gun fights, I mean political action. The show FINALLY realizes the magnitude of the situation and the non-existent police come to life, which speeds things up a little. The mundane and boring side characters finally have a role to play and the quick transition from the activities of Akira and his Eden buddies are really smooth. The pacing is improved, but still inconsistent.

The plot is, by no means, unpredictable. You can see what’s coming from a mile away, but it’s still fun. The movie is exciting and the reason for this is because the viewer knows that after this 1 hour and 42 minutes, there will be no more Eden of the East. A lot of the questions left unanswered are finally dealt with. Although, the answers aren’t satisfactory, it was a relief to see that the producers had at least tried to tie up most of the loose ends.

The ending may appear ridiculous, abrupt and stupid at first glance, but after a re-watch, things become much clearer. I repeat - If you are left confused by the ending, then you MUST re-watch this movie and even bits of the first one. That being said, the ending is still not up to the mark. The producers tried to be smart by providing a classy and sophisticated ending, but they just fail pretty miserably.

The side characters themselves are as tiresome as ever, but at least this time, they have important roles to play, so they’ll keep you engaged. Saki finally shows some new emotions, but still not enough to compensate her disastrously monotonous role thus far. Akira is as eccentric as ever. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m gonna miss that crazy dude.

The animation is as gorgeous as ever. Nothing more to be said here, as fans of the original series and the prequel must be aware of the stellar animation quality.

Both, the OP and the ED, are done by SchoolFoodPunishment, which is really cool. The BGM for this movie is far better than the original series and the first movie and the music finally stands out.

Overall, a great concept, an eccentric main character, brilliant animation and a super background score are this anime’s strongholds, but poor pacing, boring side characters and an overambitious ending pull it down. But, Paradise Lost did have a more movie feel to it than its predecessor King of Eden.

The Bottom-line:
This movie gets a 9 purely because it marks the end of such an innovative show (and also because I feel slightly guilty for giving the show and the first movie an 8). It goes without saying that this is a must-watch for fans of Eden of the East. This movie might not be epic and isn’t a good ending to the franchise, but it’s still watchable.

This is the end of Eden of the East, and am I happy about it? Truthfully, I am. While the series was a fairly entertaining ride the first movie was pretty pointless. Paradise Lost is the conclusion of the series, yet…doesn’t really feel concluding at all. It just felt like more nothing.

It’s strange really. This series is supposed to be focused on far reaching consequences and the results that these twelve people have on the well-being of Japan, yet you don’t see much of anything really change. There’s the missiles, which changed some things, but after that it feels like all of the things these ... characters do have no really worthwhile consequence. At the end of Paradise Lost you feel like you’ve watched nothing because of how incomplete it feels. And that’s not because the ending is lame (which it is, it is not exciting and doesn’t really make a ton of sense), but because this movie cuts off, just like the series and the last movie, without a clear ending. It’s like this is meant to be continued, but somebody realized that was not a good idea and canned the project. Like maybe there was supposed to be a third movie but the first two were so repulsive that nobody wanted a third.

The hour and a half this movie takes up does have more plot progression than the previous film, but, as I said, nothing feels substantial and everything seems inconsequential. Things are happening, but none of it makes a ton of sense. There are bad guys, but none of them are any good (just as I’ve said with the past two reviews). Nothing is changed here. It’s just a bunch of nothing. And I’m sorry to hurt anyone’s feelings, but this series isn’t that smart and isn’t that good because of the fact it does nothing. Takizawa and Saki are back in Japan to end the game. They learn a bit about Takizawa’s past (Takizawa has magically regained a lot of his memories too). And then there’s a long stretch of nothing. There’s all this set up to a nice final confrontation, but there’s no finale that wraps everything up. Takizawa ends it rather boringly and that’s that. A series and two movies to lead up to a conclusion about as thrilling as watching paint dry. And even then, it’s not a conclusion.

So what is good about this? The animation and sound. There you go. Otherwise the story is dull, uninteresting, unexciting, and pointless. The characters are all pretty much the same. Nothing about the plot stands out. Nothing about it is particularly good. Nothing about it is exciting. It’s all arbitrary feeling. As if whoever wrote this was forced into writing it and didn’t really care. It has no heart behind it.

Taken as a whole, the series starts off good but degrades over time. And that’s sad, because as I’ve said before, I love the premise. But if this is all you get for an ending, if this is all the series leads to, then I feel like I’ve wasted my time.

Paradise Lost is an apt name. At first this series seemed like something I could really love. Turns out, it loses any hope of that halfway through the main series and goes downhill from there.

Eden of the East has finally ended after a year of a series and two movies.

Personally, I really liked this series. I liked it's style. It's form. The story. And the pacing it used. Each piece of the story got an 8. Plus, a great soundtrack to boot.

The show still has that great music. That refined art style. And a good ending to a thoughtful and intriguing series that answered every question. So it's complete!

You've seen the characters through about every situation "game" could bring them through and you're into what is happening. Nothing in the movie makes you doubt the characters. They all stay ... true to themselves. You should watch this if you watched everything before.

The rest of the review is to argue the fact that this movie stayed true to the Eden of the East series and that there didn't have to be fast-paced action in order for this series to end well. It's a movie where naive ideals could work not one where missiles need to be shot down everyone five minutes. So there will be plenty of spoilers from this movie.

Which brings up the issue of Takizawa Akira. Everyone thinks Takizawa is a weak character because he forgot everything prior to the beginning of the series. We all see that Takizawa is a youthful idealist that succeeds in this "game" that Mr. Outside casted him in. He finds himself pitted against other Selecao before making his move at the end of the series. Then is brainwashed again at the end of the series.

Let's state the fact that Takizawa losing his memories over and over is not a bad move at all nor a character flaw. It's a way to wrap your head around the situation. Through introducing himself to the situation, again and again, he is able to approach new ideas. Also, to argue that Takizawa magically regains his memories is definitely not true. The first movie was him being introduced to everything again and the second movie is the result of that. You would think that brainwashing doesn't work 100%. I believe the doctor said that in the series as well (i ain't too sure on that so don't be challenging me). It's seen at the end of the movie that the forced brainwashing, as a result of the game, didn't even affect him. In other movies, animes, TV shows, all have shown that you can't erase memories 100% anyhow. Geez, you people really need to step up that argument.

This movie also includes the meeting of Mr. Outside. The meeting we've all been waiting for. People cry and whine about it being underwhelming. But everyone seems to have forgotten the two minutes of the movie prior to meeting Mr. Outside. The guy has been laying low for 30 years. If you expected him to see him somewhere like his mansion, or a giant corporate building, then I'm afraid you've all missed the point of "laying low". The guy drives a "taxi" around and round. This taxi is how he met his twelve players for his "game".

The meeting with Mr. Outside in the last hours of the night in his taxi that he's basically lived in the for the past 30 years fits this whole show perfectly. Everyone seems to forget that the Selecaos are eleven ordinary people that are guided by the master of the game. That meeting was ordinary. Just like how his eleven players met him. See how it fits?

Also, about the plot being slow. It's slow because of the remaining Selecaos and the big decisions that everyone has made. In the beginning, you had some working together. Then pitted against each other and people lost the game. When there are not a lot of players, things seem to slow down because the players wait for the others to make a move. Those that made the big moves usually got the biggest reward. Those biggest moves also could've made you lose the game if you didn't pull it off.

The ending for this movie was good, not the best, but good, and fitting. It wasn't rushed or incomplete. It's what our youthful protagonist wanted to create when he told Mr. Outside. A society where everyone would rather earn money than spend it. To push them, he give every caller 1 yen. "Oh, now I see his plan!" you say. There was no move Takizawa could make to shift all of society in one train of thought. Instead, he put his faith into all the "unknown heroes" behind the country. Mononobe could've made that move, but it would've cost everyone's personal freedoms. Takizawa put all of his faith into the people. Which is why Mr. Outside decided to call the game and declare the winner because someone used their money in the way that they saw best for society.

Finally the Eden story is wrapped up in this final movie. Without spoiling anything I think this is one that you'll finish and either love or hate. I happened to find this ended appropriately considering the story as it was. This is the second movie, and like the first movie it's more of an extra long episode than a stand alone story. You really do have to watch the 11 episode series and the movie prior to this before attempting to watch this movie.

This time around they brought the tone back to the feel it had in the series. I felt the first movie was ... a disconnect in a lot of ways, but this movie felt like I was watching the series again. The focus switched back to the game they were involved in, and there was a little growth with a few of the characters. There were a few surprises here and there, but I was mostly impressed with how it was concluded. I expected a sappy/happy ending, but I was relieved that it didn't turn out that way. I will say that it's not a tragic end, and it's not a crazy ending either. Some might find it lacking or strange, but it comes down to the individual in this case. It is a little unexpected and a little open.

Everything that transpires over the course of the story more or less comes to a close in this movie. There are a few questions left unanswered, but I didn't mind at all. It's nice to leave some things to the imagination. This wasn't the ending I was hoping for, but I was satisfied with the conclusion and really liked it. I didn't love it like the first 11 episodes, but I thought it was very well done.

All in all there is a lot of value in this movie. I think it's definitely worth checking out. I give it a high 8 overall, and it's a must watch for eden fans.

First off, I am and will continue to be a fan of Eden of the East. That said... not a fan of this tripe. Calling it "Paradise Lost" is a misnomer. It's "Paradise Never Reached in the First *$%# Place".

Typically when an anime has movie installments it's a bonus - a little more of what fans love, character development, even just some mindless but harmless fluff... but not a pivotal part of the story. If you are reading this you know Eden of the East is an exception. The movies are the obligatory half-baked conclusion to what was a good story and may have been ... better left unfinished. Had that been the case, my imagination would have chosen many possible directions, but never one this unsatisfying.

If you saw the series (nevermind the pointless first movie) you know what potential it had. If you haven't seen it then you shouldn't be reading this. Go watch it, then read my review before deciding to watch the movies.

I can't really say a lot about this movie without referencing the first movie and of course the series itself so you've been warned.

The first half of the series presents a fascinating what-if scenario: What would you do to lift up your country if you were given not only a substantial fortune to accomplish it, but a phone that allowed you to contact a mysterious woman who could make literally anything humanly possible a reality instantly?

With her impossibly vast (and morally dubious) connections and a disturbing amount of power bestowed on her by the elusive Mr. Outside, Juiz is like a genie granting wishes using any means necessary. If there was anything I enjoyed about this series to the bitter end, it was Juiz's often opinionated (and in one case scalding) remarks meant to steer the "chosen ones" towards nobler paths without ever denying a request within the realm of physical possibility.

Some indirect semi-spoilers:

1. This won't end how you - how ANYONE - would want it to.

2. The more you know about Mr. Outside the less anything will make sense.

4. The fact that Juiz is not a computer (which is exposed prior to this movie) is ludicrous.

And finally a *DEFINITE SPOILER* - HOWEVER! I wish I had known this so I just consider it my dutiful warning!!!:

The "end" is clearly a set-up for a continuation that will never happen. Takizawa disappears with an allusion to his "one last task" and we're expected to apparently get creative with what he means. It's basically like the writers wanted to leave it open on the off chance they were granted a third movie, but probably knowing it was a snowball's chance in hell that it would happen.

In the end, the real question remains the same as at the beginning: What does Mr. Outside want from these people? If you are thinking "obviously he wants them to save Japan!" consider the fact that he intentionally pits them against eachother by making them believe they will be terminated if they are not the victor - and only one can win. So if he really wanted them to succeed why would he not want them to work together, but instead force them to waste their money and energy on devising ways to defeat eachother for the sake of survival?

It seems apparent he's just a sadist and in the end he punishes the unwilling participants in his psychotic game for having played it.

Whatever Takizawa needed to do, I'm just going to hope it involved his fist and Mr. Outside's face getting to know eachother personally.

Incomplete.

This would be the sole word I would use to describe Paradise lost. It left me with a feeling of being unsatisfied, and that there /should/ be more. But regardless of what people say, I would need to comment on it being well enough paced. I found it had "Spurts" of action, however, this last part engaged the technical aspects of plot much thoroughly than it's prequels. I enjoyed the last part, but truly, truly, truly hope. No dream. of a third part to "complete" this brilliant series by Production I.G.

Story "9"
This story is talking about a squad forced on a deth game to become a Messiah (rescuer of country).
Its starts kinda weer, and yeah I was "WTF what is this supposed to be?..." , but then its gets more intresting, the one point taken off because movie 1 gets weer again as started.
But in general, I was astonushed with the story.

Yeah its feel kinda strange especially the censorship but its very good actually.

Characters "10"
The writer made all characters great and each one has goos personality according to his position... so its perfect.

Sounds "10"
Its simply was sounded great, yeah English language in Japanese accent is weer as always, but that doesn't make it bad, I think its make it funny.
So I give credit to those actors.

Enjoyment "10"
This anime is masterpiece, yeah you don't understand what's going on at beginning but that gives scene of mystery, so I've enjoyed it so much.


When add all the marks together and devide on five we'll get "9.6" when estimate it gives us "10"

The second movie and the very end of whole series about the NEETs, SELECAOs some guys with amnesia and a pure-hearted girls :D At last almost all questions finds their answers and we have a winners and we have a… winners :P Who was the real enemy of Akira? Who is Outsider guy? What will happen with Higashi no Eden? Why the paradise have been lost?
Don’t even try to call Juize… she won’t help you! :D

=Story=

The whole plot ends here! At last the storyline get it fast! But after slowpokes like TV series and, in some aspects, last movie it ... is going just… to fast! So we have a car (or should I say truck :D) pursuits, dynamic escaping scenes (of course with the looooong dialogs in middle of them) and many flashbacks that can give us some answers on what really happened and what can happen on account of that. As I mentioned in the last review we have new player- the Japanese government. Well… for me they gone a little too far with this but… I can forgive it if we will consider the very solution of the story.

Watch out, now time for some spoilers and general interpretation of what is shown on screen!!!

So out of nowhere we learn from the SELECAO no. 1 that… he really didn’t need that money to do what he wanted to do! He’s blaming the society for the country situation (wise guy! XD) and he just tried to put some pressure of it. To show people the common enemy, terrify them with it and at the end- gather under patriotic and separatists banner! Now I don’t want to spread conspiracy but look closely 9 years back in time on USA and draw some conclusions… But of course we have a all good guy like Akira, who will not allow this to happen. Yeah only he can win the game!
And hmmm… the government and the story of his mother… This motive just… suck! Again the authors of anime didn’t calculate the proper time to solve it properly. Result? Subplot becoming main plot and totally destroys all beautiful climate of Noblesse Obelige phones, the Oustsider guy and the deathly information-game.

Thanks to those very authors, the very end of anime was saved!

But after all Noblesse Oblige phone plus the protoplast of Higashi no Eden program are the main tools of Akira… The main tool of “making Japan better country”! His last speech is a quite too pompous, but through this words the great moral flows… Mr. Outsider was found by side character and… he was pleased. I would be pleased too if I would be him and if I would try to save my country, because… Today world really should be in youths hands. I live for example in country that had been experienced by two totalitarians systems. And when I hear another news in which another politics are blaming each other that they are other country agent, that they have “unclean” past… They can only blame others. And youths? All those people that are full of ideas, energy, motivation? They are just used. They cannot have a proper job after years of education, they cannot even have an influence on development in their own country! It is really time to put aside history and start to build future on the shoulders of new generations!
Akira gave everyone a chance by giving one virtual coin. It is really better to have one coin and multiply it by yourself, than having millions of yen and the secretary that can do everything. Why? Because YOU will earn this money with YOUR hard work and it will be good both for YOU and YOUR country! Country is for citizens not citizens for country!

And what Mr. Oustsider done? He done the best thing that he could do… he gave a gift for all the SELECAO… The gift that should be given to every human being. It is a chance. A chance to start everything from the beginning. So what is the ultimate prize for Noblesse Oblige game? Erasing of the memories! So… the Takizawa already won this game… twice! But now he won it for everyone.
You may ask what is good at loosing memories. But look. If we have amnesia we may not know our names, our addresses our account numbers and our work. But we don’t loose everything. We still have our personality, we have our specific behaviors, we still have our talents and skills! We have our knowledge and experience, even if we don’t really remember it… But what is most beautiful- we are really ourselves. No influence of other people, no influence of environment… we are just who we are! And what about others and their feelings? Look at Saki. He lost memories again. She kissed Akira. He promise he will go back. Why? Because the feelings that we once felt cannot be forgotten too. Saki is like an anchor for Takizawa, that keeps pushing him forward… to do something even more crazy and effective than he done before losing memories… Sky King + Mr. Outsider? = saved country ;)

So at the end I’m giving the 9 for storyline. I would give 8 but the message that flows through the end of anime is really, really meaning and became an saviour of Higashi no Eden :D

I thought than nothing can surprise me after watching the last movie if we are talking about the arts… But my breath was taken at the very beginning of the movie! Yeah now the 3D elements are pretty popular in anime but… there is a motive where we have a roulette circle with SELECAO numbers. And we have a little metal ball rolling through the moving circle of that game… and when I saw reflections of the surrounding of this moving ball… Oh, damn! And they done it “just” for opening! Great work! No, no… I should say… Outstanding work, producers! I believe that your graphics are NEETs ^^

Well I must confess that I done a terrible mistake in the last review! The last scene of Paradise Lost when the Saki and Akira are kissing opened my ears on the one of the nicest and cheerful (well it sounds like a Christmas carol somehow for me XD) music motive in whole series!

What to say here… authors just done the very same thing that they were doing whole the series. So they provide another new characters into the story (PM wife, Juize “voices”, PM himself and mother of Akira) but here is just no time to fully expand them. What is more… the “Interest Hunter” story ends too quick (whew what a relief XD), other characters are just a pawns and the manipulation that consisted of putting together side character with the almighty Mr. Outside… well I guess it is not good resolution :/
So, the score stays as they were but for those who are the fans of the old characters and stasus quo- put one point higher!

We can add to this the message from the authors and the pretty good ending of the storyline!

And the overall now. To tell the truth this is actually overall of whole series!
The story even with some dead ends, some unanswered questions and generally focused on the two main characters plus the countless numbers of the NEETs (:P) is very cheerful and charming one ^^ It is talking about very important things, things that we don’t want to move during everyday life, but… the way they are shown in Higashi no Eden is really eatable and digestible. The climate with the Noblesse Oblige phones at the lead is unique and so close to what we can see just behind the window, that it will really influence the watchers. But it will influence us good way…

Noblesse Oblige… no, no… let us all be a Sky Kings! Let’s grab the life and make it better for us and our children!

NOTE - This is a review of all Eden Of The East, the original series and the two sequel films.

Writing - 10/10
I'm a guy who doesn't really look top class writing. To me a 10/10 written script is one that makes me love the characters, love the world, love the outcomes, love the setup and how it is done(which is a rarity for me).
Something like Stand Alone Complex, where the script is very, complex (lol) and tight, is an extra point, an 11/10 in my book. The most important thing for me when it comes to the writing is... do I like it? Am I ... happy the writer took this route instead of this route? Which for this, yes I was.

Art & animation - 9.5/10
It's typical Production I.G. standard really. Excellent art, fluid animation, amazing choreography and cinematography as I.G. have so well been known for. the -0.5 has to do with how the movies looked only a slight bit better than the series, but still acceptable. I had no problem with the cgi personally, mainly because it was handled well.

Music - 10/10
Kenji Kawaii once again delivers an excellent ost that compliments the scenes. For intense moments its intense BGM's, etc. The standouts so far is the slow yet powerful BGM's that play whenever a terror attack occurs, as well as the music at the finale.

Overall -
Eden Of The East was a fantastic piece of entertainment. It was funny, stupid, smart, and beautiful all at once, and I loved it. (still wished they'd keep the Oasis opening though)
Eden of The East - King Of Eden was also excellent. Especially the latter half when No.1 begins to move again.
Eden of The East - Paradise Lost, for me, was a satisfying conclusion. However it did feel that more may come, but it could perfectly stand without it. It gave us a nice closure to a wonderful series.

This series is probably one of my favourites, without a shadow of a doubt.

It was just weird that he just keeps leaving her to erase his memory... The repetitive pattern that he keeps leaving the MC to erase his own freaking memory is so tiring, its almost like the MC is just going to have to find him every 6 months as if she has nothing better to do...

If the romance does bloom here, imagine what he'd do if they had a kid... Probably just leave them again just to erase that memory lol. So why even bother... ._.

However, I do enjoy other characters but was hoping that there would have been more character developments throughout ... since this was the last sequel.. (I hope.. I can't stand another memory erasing s***) But meh, it was pretty good for the art and plot considering it is an old anime.

If you're watching this before seeing the series, stop and watch that first. However: the series doesn't stand alone, the movies are clearly filling in for the second arc, and you should treat them as the remainder of the same season. This movie is better than the first, but as a resolution to an anime that underwhelms, I'll let you guess what happens. Big problems get solved in unsatisfying ways. Some payoffs are more of a trickle, and some just ... don't happen. Don't let that dissuade you, though, it is still Eden of the East, and my praise of the series mostly stands. It is the resolution to a charming and unique show, and it still felt good.

I mentioned this in my review for the series: a sense of groundedness pervades the show. I think that's where many reviewers are sensing the disappointment and underwhelmingness. But there's something very *true* about that underwhelmingness; whether you appreciate it or not is up to you. There's no reason to skip the very ending if you've come this far already, so go on and watch it.

Thos movie solves every mystery in this series. Thou the ending feels a little dissapointing in two reasons. 1st reason is that Takizawa did not ended up with Saki. They didn't even meet for 6 months. 2nd reason is that, the ending is just meeehh. Lack of excitment, enjoyment. So plain and bland. Too bland. I'm not looking for part 3, because the whole story ends up on that, period. They should add something thrilling and excitement for the viewers. So disappointed for the ending. Its fine, it fills the holes of the plot. But not so good, maybe I should say the whole plot ... is not too good.

I feel like I'm tearing the plotline away from this anime because it's not giving me anything to work with. Honestly, I'm reaching and reaching for something that tells me exactly what's going on or why things are happening or what the main character's motivations are, but I just can't get a hold of it. As a result, the story becomes hard to follow. As a viewer, I'm left to infer parts of the story, but if I guess incorrectly, then I'll end up super confused by the time I get to the final film in the franchise. Well, guess what happened? Beyond that, this ... movie in particular, sort of just had lazy writing. "Oh, well this is a thing now because we say so, but we aren't gonna give you any evidence or foundation for it."

If this story had taken its time to develop and been more clear about the events that were occurring, then it would've been amazing. The message that was conveyed through this was very thought-provoking. To induce thoughts about politics and what you can do for you country through this premise of having ten billion yen to save Japan is mind-blowingly awesome.

Thankfully, through this movie, we do actually learn more about the main character's past, which I've said isn't necessary to make the good but would still be nice to have. It was nice to have, though it didn't really benefit the story either way, so I guess I'm just glad to know more about the main character regardless.

I don't know, this anime series didn't really spark a lot of extreme emotions in me, whether that be positive or negative. The concept of it did keep me interested though. Had it been thought out and explained more, it would've had me hook, line, and sinker. It's a shame, but I'm still glad I got to see this story through.

All right, so I know a lot of people didn't like this movie, whether it was because the ending was lackluster or they just didn't enjoy a movie as opposed to another season. Or the story, etc.

But I loved this movie. I thought it tied up all of the loose ends, for the most part, pretty good. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the the "game" ends on a pretty satisfying note (in my opinion).

And when every player's memory is erased, the male MC is unaffected. The only part I wasn't entirely satisfied with was the male MC leaving the ... female MC again, but at least he sealed the deal with a kiss and promised to be back for her again.

Overall, I really loved the ending. Enough to give it 9 stars, at least.

A very disappointing ending to what could've been a great series. I only giving it a better score because I love everything else but the plot. Still love the characters, especially Saki in this movie but the ending.... let's just say if you're a fan of the original... you'll probably be disappointed by the end.

Is the ending terrible? Well depends on how you wanted to see it end. With spoilers off course... it doesn't feel like it has a ending... it kinda feels more like it just continues on without a finish and we just have to draw our own conclusion. It was a ... bold choice by them to make our ship sank... I personally was kinda crushed by that and that doesn't ruin it but I mean it was set up the whole time and for it to just end without feeling satisfying.

It's the idea of wanting and waiting for something so badly and when you finally get it... it wasn't what you hoped for at all and would've been better if you didn't get it. Like getting desert after eating a full meal... and the desert was a let down but it doesn't ruin the meal itself. So the original in my book was still great, I loved it. But the movies... you could do without them. I mean it's not a bad watch, but just don't get your hopes up.

Though, I don't really see the point in making two Higashi no Eden films, this at least provided more development to Akira's history and character. They did expand on his family, but I found the mother to be pretty cliched, being the cold parent who doesn't want to have anything to do with her son.

Though, I didn't find very many characters interesting here, except for maybe Saki and Micchan. The story was a little bit interesting but it's still too complicated and a bit too focused on there "Oh, has there been any terrorist attacks" thing and it idk, didn't make a lot of sense? ... There was a funny moment involving Panties and Micchan when Panties hangs up on Micchan all of a sudden while she's panicking about what's happening.

There is some more action happening and it paces a bit better and faster but it's still bland and the pacing doesn't have much exciting things going on. It does get weird in the third act, and I found the third act a bit interesting, but its ending doesn't make any sense but I don't want to spoil anything.

In conclusion, this movie has a few unrealistic moments and unless you're a huge fan of Higashi no Eden or convoluted, slow-paced, underdeveloped anime that doesn't have a lot of action or much going on, I don't recommend checking out the first one. The second one is a bit better and could be something you could try, but it's not very worthwhile, not a waste of time, but just not that good. It's not much special.
