Is the ending terrible? Well depends on how you wanted to see it end. With spoilers off course... it doesn't feel like it has a ending... it kinda feels more like it just continues on without a finish and we just have to draw our own conclusion. It was a bold choice by them to make our ship sank... I personally was kinda crushed by that and that doesn't ruin it but I mean it was set up the whole time and for it to just end without feeling satisfying.
It's the idea of wanting and waiting for something so badly and when you finally get it... it wasn't what you hoped for at all and would've been better if you didn't get it. Like getting desert after eating a full meal... and the desert was a let down but it doesn't ruin the meal itself. So the original in my book was still great, I loved it. But the movies... you could do without them. I mean it's not a bad watch, but just don't get your hopes up.
