Chaos;Head is a prime example of an anime that collapsed under the weight of its own ambition. In trying so desperately to separate itself from a myriad of other suspenseful thrillers while catering to a pre-selected audience, Chaos;Head spreads itself all of the place, so much so that everything about it is thin, flimsy, and overall disappointing. The end result, however, is stuff of unintended comic gold.
Chaos;Head starts fantastic with a very adventurous first episode brimming with possibilities. The play on otaku falling victim to their own delusions, coupled with a series of bizarre homicides was intriguing enough to keep me watching it repeatedly, but

ChäoS;HEAd is a Supernatural, Psychological, Mystery, whatever that literally gives a new meaning to the term “mind-f**k”. Whichever way you feel about this series, whether you like its intriguing set-up or detest its absurdity, there’s no denying that it’s a complete mess.
Following the life of some loser otaku, Takumi Nishijou is a high school student living life in his own little world of online gaming, anime and perverse fantasies. Then one fateful day he wonders into some gruesome murder scene, changing his current life dramatically, as extreme paranoia sets in. Well that’s the introduction, in a nutshell and like most people I struggled to make ... Jan 2, 2009
I haven't played the game, nor have I read the visual novel, so I cannot compare and point out about differences or things left out. Thus, this review is about the anime only.
Chaos;Head... I'm going to be honest, and say that Chaos;Head was a real disappointment. The concept is fairly original. I give points for that. If you were like me, I was expecting a fairly elaborate plot with twists and suspense, but Chaos;Head severely lacked that, and thus, it turned out having a really mediocre and a down right uninteresting result. To fit this kind of a story-line, into such a short space of ... Feb 23, 2009
This is one of those shows that i really looked forward to, and the first 2-3 episodes almost got me feel I was high on something, but then …
[5]Story: Alright, so the story begins with introducing the main character, Takumi. He is an Otaku that has failed at life basically, living in a container with his computer and anime figures totally isolated from the world excluding the few occasions he goes to school on. The thing that will catch your attention right of the start is that Takumi is having severe delusions that alter his reality. Right after the first episode we get thrown ... Jul 7, 2013
A show where the name itself, ChäoS;HEAd, is meant to be taken literally. Your head will be filled with chaos as you attempt to understand what is going on.
The beauty of ChäoS;HEAd is that the show itself is a mystery. The rushed pacing of the show in combination with the intentional mysterious plot made it difficult to keep a handle on what was going on. I cannot count the number of times I said, out loud, "What the hell is going on?" I feel like the writers were trying to make this something unique that stood out as a gem among the crowd. They did ... Apr 10, 2015
I watched Chaos;Head not expecting much. I've read a lot of reviews that do not look favourably on it, but I wanted to make my own judgement.
The show starts out fairly well, actually. For the first few episodes, we get a nice look at the delusional insanity of the main character, Takumi Nishijou. The show actually does really well, creating an oppressive and slightly hostile atmosphere, which really helps to justify the character of Takumi. Takumi, in short, is a fairly pathetic and unpleasant character, but because we see the story through his eyes, his actions don't seem entirely unreasonable, which makes for an interesting ... to be frank, C;H had the real potential of becoming a masterpiece, and it kinda did.. or did it?
i’m a massive SciAdv fan, played all the visual novels and slowly but steadily recovering them all, therefore i rate my knowledge as “fair”. As several other reviews stated, the anime adaptation and the visual novel don’t really match up like in other chapters of the series, and it’s undeniably true. although the storyline in the original visual novel was damn near perfectly paced, this anime adaptation suffered from the “too much in too little time” syndrome, a disease that sadly affects way too many titles, pressing a 50 ... First anime every seen. Pretty average story, characters, and animation. Slow at first and then gets really serious in the second half. As much as I liked the mystery behind this one and all the weird things that happen I thought that the explanations and conclusion were poorly done. Theme song is great and so is the other music, which was the strongest part of the show (which is pretty sad.)

It was an okayish kinda goodish anime, know what I mean.
The main character was kinda interesting seeing as he felt like a normal extra anime and gaming nerd. Wasn't that likeable though. The story is what was really interesting and could have been a great thing but the execution was not good. And being a 12 episode anime, it took way tooo long to start things up and then wrapped everything up in a rush. I really was interested in the first few episodes and was really wanting to see where the story was heading but sadly, it didn't pan out well. And other ... Jul 24, 2014
This anime could've been one of the greats.........
It starts off with a very interesting perspective psychology and mental illness..........a murder mystery theme with the writer(s) keeping the viewer guessing at each turn and succeeding in confusing A LOT of people (as evident by many of the comment sections under each episode on various site). However, I honestly wished they continued with the psychology (for example, if the main character had paranoid schizophrenia or dissociative identity disorder) but sadly, they don't. All we get is a rushed, stereotypical storyline with a farcical plot. I was very disappointed with how it turned out. I would still recommend this to ... May 7, 2016
Warning this review may contain spoilers.
First impressions, so we got a super natural marrder mystery going down with harem elements going in the background. Sounds interesting enough. Story,5/10 So the premise and setup of choas head is pretty simple for the most part because in one way or another it's has been done before a lot of time. You know Like we have the main character living his Madame life. There are some mysterious murders that have been going down in his local area. He doesn't pay attention to these things and then out of nowhere he is then quickly dragged into the middle of ... May 27, 2009
I desperately hoped this anime to be something like Kon's "Paranoia agent". Promising "dark" atmosphere, typical hihikomori as the main character, mysterious girl(s) with extraordinary powers... But... This anime was too "promising" to become really good.
I made certain that great ideas can be spoiled by absence of talent (?) & high pretensions. Apr 1, 2014
This anime started out kind of slow but seemed like it had a lot of potential to me a really interesting mystery series of sorts. The first 3-4 eps are really slow then eps 5-9 were really interesting and had me captivated. Finally the last 3 eps just fell apart. I haven't read the manga so I don't know if it had the same problem but I feel like there was a lot of information and fringe science based ideas that the creator wanted to put into this series then just ran out of time/momentum and tried to finish it up really fast.
On top ... Apr 4, 2013
When you dont know what is real and what is not what would you do?
This is (in my mind) the basis of the show that is Chaos HEAD, as it follows a young man who is severely disillusioned and could be reffered to as the "sample platter for mental illness" As ive made clear this guy is messed up in the head and to compliment this there are lots of crazy-ass murders happenning in his neigborhood. By this point you as a viewer will think that you have it all figured ot, but dont worry because there are 180' plot twists every 30 seconds in ... Aug 5, 2014
Chaos;Head, I actually liked the name so I decided to give it a shot, and here's what I think about this Series:
Story: The Story isn't really that great, it's all about delusions and how some people are gifted with the ability to turn delusions into reality, and later u know that some devices are able to do that as well, the story could be interesting and this anime could've been a great hit, but they messed it up, the story wasn't well told, it's kinda messed up all over the anime, the story is good generally, but the anime didn't manipulate it well Art: The Art ... I honestly feel as though this show had so much potential. I really wanted to enjoy it and see it for what it could have been, but I was subsequently disappointed, and here's why.
I'm not saying it was a terrible series, the problem (in my opinion) lies solely in the fact that it was limited to 12 episodes. There was way too much of a story concept for such a short amount of time. This lead to the storyline being sort of all over the place. I wouldn't say it's confusing, but there were a lot of moments where I was asking myself "what's going ... Sep 27, 2014
Chaos;Head has a lot of really interesting ideas, but they never really built into anything particularly compelling, and many of them are handled so sloppily that whatever potential they had is wasted. The same problem holds for the characters, who don't really go anywhere. There was potential here, but it's mostly wasted. Decent enough little show, but you can easily find better.

So, I decided to watch Chaos;Head after finishing Steins;Gate and learning they were in the same universe. I started with Chaos;Head because I saw the MAL-Rating and thought I'd 'save the worst for first'. However, Chaos;Head is a far more interesting anime than my score may suggest, and I do recommend watching it if you can overlook some of the challenges with it.
So, firstly, the biggest strength of the show is that it has an interesting concept with philosophical themes, and at times has a great tone. In many ways, I think the tone of Chaos;Head (at least early on) is most ... Mar 8, 2015
I must admit it IS an ambitious train-wreck, but it isn't THAT bad.
The premise of the story is very good, and so it is the first episode which gives you a lot of expectation. But beware... sadly, the anime is not gonna meet those expectations. The story-telling wasn't wisely constructed, and what could have become the anime of its year, crush and burn miserably. It's such a pity when stories with so much potential are executed so poorly. I haven't read the visual novel from which this was based of, but i am planning to, as i'm really intrigued if they gave this story ... Aug 8, 2018
that's not about expectation tbh as long as i don't have real opinion at all, well this is the site for human reviews after all, but speaking really as we thought so, it was a bullshit as an anime. a lot of mistakes that i see were like i was in disgust in during the watching case, this was a disgust at all as an anime, but not the novel and the game as long as i didn't see and got information for that , can't say much , so this might had like very nice anime that lasts 20 year or smth in people's
