In the 16th century, the city of Florence booms with cultural and creative revival in celebration of the Renaissance. Arte, a delightful young lady from an aristocratic family, dreams of being an artist and contributing to the renewal of civilization. However, with her father's death, she ends up losing the only person who believed in her passion for art. Now she is expected to marry a nobleman and live as a refined housewife without disgracing her family name. Reluctant to accept her fate, the headstrong Arte steps into the streets in search of a master artisan to take her on as an apprentice.

In her quest for a mentor, Arte has to face harsh reality when she is completely shunned for being a female artist. No one believes that women are capable of fine craftsmanship, and therefore none are willing to accept her. Luckily, a renowned artisan by the name of Leo is persuaded to take her as his disciple since he has none anyway. And thus, Arte's new life begins, far from the comfort of her noble upbringing. As an apprentice, she must earn her keep while tackling various challenges along the difficult path to becoming a full-fledged, master artisan.

If you enjoy Art and Crafts I think you'd like this Anime for seeing how it was all done in that past. I'm not sure if this view is frowned on or not here, but I'd recommend you watch at least parts of it in Dubbed. I feel that the budget that may have came with the Universal the English version is the best I've watched in ages, just from the simple part of there being Italian words thrown in from time to time. It feel's to me that a lot of attention went into making every character you meet in the show feel real, ... I don't know I just feel this show hit at the right time of my life for me. if you like the history of the time period then it's an easy recommend from me.

Mixed Feelings

This anime is overall quite decent and carries many uplifting and progressive messages. It's rare to see a show focused on art, especially one highlighting the role of women in the male-dominated art world of 16th-century Florence. Instead of delving deeply into technical terms or artistic knowledge, the show emphasizes the challenges of making a living and gaining respect as a woman in society. It also serves as a powerful illustration of the feminist movement, not as a fight to dominate or threaten men, but rather a call for equal opportunities for all genders.

Arte is the perfect protagonist for this theme: motivated by change ... and success in her beloved field, yet not harboring resentment toward those who doubt her. Her positive attitude ensures that any obstacles she faces become mere motivation to push harder. The main message of the anime is that, regardless of your actions or whether your goals clash with societal norms, if you work hard, you deserve respect.

While Arte’s journey is inspiring, the show can sometimes give the impression that hard work alone can solve all problems and lead to success, which isn't entirely accurate since life is rarely so straightforward. Another critique is the slow pacing of the story, which, while realistic, may not appeal to all audiences. Due to Arte’s personality and her societal position, the story sometimes lacks depth, and it might have benefited from a deeper exploration of the intellectual and technical aspects of art creation.

This anime is about a girl who aspires to became an artist in 16th century Italy where apparently women are not capable of drawing like Michelangelo and da Vinci and all the men are. You will see her hardships as she upgrades her level of drawing at an astonishing rate. You ll be seeing that most of the time.

Now, since the anime and main heroine share the same name of course the plot will revolve around her 99 precent of time and that is expected. The problem, at least with me, is that the main heroine is so boring and annoying most of the time ... that the whole anime gets boring too prety fast. Also,the story is too slow paced.

Its basiacally a shoujo where the main heroine can do anything if she just puts some will and a background past of loving to draw, into it.

The animation is done really well and for me that was the best part of the anime. I loved how they animated Firence, Venice, the drawings. It is animated really well. Unfortunately that is the only thing that gets a good grade from me.
