Why do yuri fans have to suffer so much?

When I was stumbling upon this year's spring anime, Tachibanakan Triangle immediaetly caught my interest. Wait a minute, is this yuri? And a comedy without any nerve-racking drama *cough cough Citrus*? And potentially ecchi? Omygosh omygosh omygosh! Can such a perfect thing even exist?

Turns out, it doesn't. Well, I thought for a long time that it does, but two weeks prior to it's start a shocking message about the length of this anime arrived; Duration: 3 min. ; Internet was once again able to break my heart... Seriously? A freaking short? *sigh*

Anywayy, now let's talk about what ... this anime really is. A disappointment. Tachibanakan Triangle is an adaptation of a 20+ chapter long manga of the same name. I have read through the manga prior to watching the anime and it's important to say that, unlike the anime, the manga is actually good at what it does. It's light-themed, has laughs and fanservice moments. Sure, it's just a stupid yuri comedy, but if you come into it expecting that, it can't really disappoint. The characters are also very likeable as a whole, even if they follow the very basic patter of personalities diversity.

Now, does the anime has any of the things I mentioned? No, it doesn't. In a fact, the anime completely abandons everything the manga tries to accomplish. The episodes are so filled up with random content that before you're able to appreciate any single scene or moment the anime already moves on, throwing more poorly animated and non-sense making things at you. The whole fanservice part is also very disappointing. The shots are pretty much the exact same as in the manga, but they lack spirit. They lack the effort. Which is the problem of the whole anime, to be completely honest.

The manga plays with it's characters and with it's environment. Sure, the things happening in there are mostly random too, but they have their purpose. You can tell that the things characters experience are somehow related. Not in the anime however. The scene selection itself makes no sense and even when it decides to adapt somehow important things, their sole purpose is nowhere to be seen. Also, relationship growth is an imporant aspect of the manga, as there is a clear love-triangle between some of the girls later on. But once again, the anime moves so quickly and unlogically that you propably wouldn't even know which of the characters are truly in love if you haven't know beforehand. The characters themselves have absolutely no chemistry, you can't even tell apart their personalities. Their sole reason for being in the show is because they just have to be there. You wouldn't want to believe that these girls are friends, students or even real people.

Be ready for the real deal, the production values. Like I already mentioned, the pace with which the anime goes at is incredibly fast, even for a short. Sure, they tried to adapt as much as they could, but I would rather see a bit less content filled anime which would make a bit more sense than what Tachibanakan decided to go with. It's hard to follow, forgettable and all episodes blend together into a huge pile of randomness.

The animation is, kind of a big deal. I actually wonder how small of a budget this anime had. If you decide to make a short instead of full series because of small ammount of funds, I would expect that the animation quality of the short would atleast be respectable. Sadly, it isn't. The arstyle itself seems very messy, and it's kinda funny how little is actually animated. Most of the scenes are either static images or 'chibi' animations.

You know what's funny about Tachibanakan Triangle? Even though it's short, poorly animated and the yuri fanservice is also disappointing, I can't bring myself to hate it. It's a show I created a bond to and I seriously wanted it to succeed. Sadly, it didn't. And even though I'm in no position to tell you what to watch and what to not, if the only thing you're looking for is yuri fanservice, go check out Sakura Trick instead. And if you're interested in Tachibanakan Triangle in particular, go read the manga. In both cases, you're gonna end up with a much better experience than this empty shell of a real anime.

When I first came in touch with anime, I thought gags like boob-grabs where the funniest things ever; I loved this new world I had discovered. Now it's a ghost town.

Tachibanakan Triangle is an anime about some girl, who lives alongside a bunch of horny lesbo cliché's in a dormitory or asylum, I guess. You got your alcohol boobs, autism, ADHD along with your normie protagonist together in one building. And no—don't you fucking dare to expect something like Sakurasou, FYI.

But why even bother depicting this anime. This fat-ass 1/10 already says enough. So why haven't I dropped it? It's quite simple actually—this shit ... is merely three minutes long. And I don't mind it as much as that pathetic ass-work 'Omiai Aite wa Oshiego... (plus some more words I can't read)'.
People have been telling I should have been easy on that show since it was a hentai. But even as a hentai it fucking sucked—how am I supposed to fap IN THREE MINUTES? No wonder so many people in the anime community are virgins.

Anyways, the length of this throw-away show—that deserves the same faith as the bear villain in Toy Story 3—doesn't bother me, as I only have to suffer for three minutes. The same thing I told myself today when I went to the dentist to get my tooth filled.
Or maybe I'm just watching this to lower my mean score on MAL so that people will take me more seriously—I don't usually go out of my way to watch bad shows.

So why does this exist? Why would something like this get an anime adaptation? You may be thinking stuff like, 'It's only three minutes, so it doesn't have much of an impact,' or, 'Shows like Boku No Pico Academia and Darling in the Francisco Franco overshadow it, anyhow.'
No people, the fact that this still exists and has reached a person on the other side of this fucking planet (myself), makes me lose faith in humanity.
But I'm sure you have heard this emo shit multiple times already within the anime community, so I won't bother.
In fact, I shouldn't have written this review in the first place.

Ok, that's it—I'm done.

After hearing the episodes are only 3,5 minutes long, I thought "woah, this series must be like 'Honobono Log' with lesbians." Upon having this thought, I immediately formed a sushi roll with my blanket to maximize the comfy, and started marathoning it.

Turns out this series could be called House of Five Lesbians (not to be confused with House of Five Leaves), and there is absolutely nothing comfy about it. The series focuses around our 5 lesbanese little girls called Practically-a-Man, Double-fang, Just-fang, Front-rack and Side-rack. All they do is sexually assault each others, fall over each others naked bodies or alternatively end up in ... angle where they directly stare at each others raw pussies. In the latest episode, Double-fang peed herself, but no one really minds because it is cute lesbian piss.

I won't say that a series focusing about softcore-lewd fanservice and content that could disgust some of its viewers would be automatically unwatchable, but this one doesn't come with any good merits outside the ending song which I found to be quite neat. I recommend to skip this series completely, maybe listen the ED on youtube.

[Yuri Harem: a Three Minute Short]

From the studio that brought us Netsuzou TRap and Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara comes their latest short: Tachibanakan Triangle. Adapted from the manga of the same name, you can expect the studio to produce a “quality” adaptation. In fact, I believe the studio has the capability to cram over 30 pages of manga content into a three minute anime and make it work. And if you believe that is a “quality” adaptation then I have a bridge to sell you.

STORY:

Synopsis: expecting a normal life, Natsuno Hanabi returns to her hometown to study at a local ... high school, however upon entering Tachibanakan, her new dormitory, she realizes her dorm mates are anything, but normal.

There will be tons of poor/rushed development and that’s because the studio is trying to cram as much content as they can into three minutes. You will see many cut scenes jumping from one scene to the next with little time for the audience to digest the previous scenes in question.

There will be lots of fanservice/ecchi content with the usual annoying censors, blocking the essential goods. The fanservice mostly involves the main character getting into absurd and perverted situations that any ecchi fan would recognize. Some classic ecchi scenes include: walking in on naked girl, falling on top of naked girl, girl getting tied up in a suggestive way, ‘two people stuck in the closet’ situation, etc. Still, fanservice or not, it’s overdone and overused, making it predictable and boring.

And because this is a three minute anime, expect little to no world or character building. In fact, if you are expecting only fanservice and poor storytelling, then you’re in luck.

ANIMATION:

The animation is really poor/lazy with some scenes sometimes feeling a bit choppy. The girl’s character designs looks pretty cute, especially in their chibi forms. And since, this is a Yuri fanservice show, expects lots of bosoms, ass, and groin shots from questionable camera angles.

SOUND:

The voice acting is good. There is no opening song, however there is a heavy metal ending song, which is surprisingly good.

CHARACTER:

The characters are cliched and forgettable with no sense of character development and few redeeming traits. If you do watch this, you will see the girls sexually harass each other and make suggestive moves in an attempt to get into the other’s pants, as if these were the only forms of communication that they know.

And in cliched fashion, we have the boring harem protagonist (but a girl this time), the childhood friend, the older sister-type with large breasts, the girl that likes to drink and make sexual advances, the mysterious stoic type who is secretly perverted, and the perverted ojou-sama. Nothing new, and nothing exciting.

ENJOYMENT:

The entire show was a huge disappointment. This should have been longer, like a regular 24 minute episode, with more focus on the story and character as opposed to focusing on fanservice and ecchi content.

Well, if you're okay with wasting 3-4 minutes once a week, then you're going to be okay with watching this anime.

Story - 4

It isn't really anything special. Our main character Hanabi moves back into her hometown, and meets with familiar and new faces. That's all there really is to it. The pacing is terrible. Everything moves too fast that you have to sometimes rewind the episode to understand what's going on.

I understand that though since packing a story into 3-4 minutes of screen time is a tedious task.

Art - 5

... It's okay, not amazing, but it's alright.

Sound - 3

Nothing much to say here, except for the confusing ED. It goes from a cute, ecchi shoujo ai show to a death metal concert real quick.

Characters - 3

Characters are cliche, bland, and forgettable, since there isn't really enough time to get to know them.

Enjoyment - 4

All in all, it did get a few giggles out of me, and since it only takes less than 5 minutes to finish an episode, I don't mind wasting my time a bit.

Overall - 3

I feel like this could have been much better and much better received if it was a single cour anime with 24 minutes each episode. It's basically just another ecchi love triangle anime (and those are mildly popular), but with girls.

Feel free to watch this if you've got time to waste, but you're not really missing anything good if you choose not to.

Woah! This anime, is LIFECHANGING. It is revolutionary to me and mind blowing, on how one can incorporate so many ecchi moments in the span of a minute. You know that feeling where you're watching an anime, and you get disappointed in not just the anime but yourself aswell for even watching this in the first place? Yeah, I got this feeling from watching it. I'll be fair, the art was fair enough and the sound was decent. But the characters, so unbearable and unmemorable that I nearly forgot the main character's name at episode 12 damn it.


This review is just for the anime ... itself, for all I know the manga could be amazing and the anime adaptation ruined it for the big screen. Besides my opinion doesn't mean shit compared to yours. You could love this anime. Don't let my look on this change how you look at this.

I'm a huge fan of yuri and I wouldn't even mind the trashy formula this starts with - a standard ecchi/harem setup, just with an all-female cast (although, with only two girls developing into proper love interests - thus the love triangle thing). This really could've been fun...

But it simply isn't, in any way. The jokes fall flat and the super-short nature of the series (3-min episodes) makes any serious romance or storytelling pretty much impossible. It's not really funny, neither it is endearing or interesting, apart from maybe a few scenes. It just seems like a very, very poor adaptation and I would encourage ... all yuri fans to skip it and possibly give the manga a try - from what I've heard, it's much funnier and more compelling.

What a shame. The manga was quite nice, light-hearted, enjoyable, with some decent character development and serious moments. The manga does not deserve to be treated like this. This anime adaptation removes almost all of it with it's way too fast pacing and sub-par animation quality. It deserves at least 12 minutes episodes. The anime definitely does not do the manga justice. A sad day for Yuri lovers.

Story: 2/10
The manga could easily get 6 or 7 because of there are some small dramas happening in between fan services. The anime removes that all and ends abruptly.

Art: 4/10
Bearable. The fan service drawings are quite nice, ... but the animation is not that great.

Sound: 3/10
Nothing to write home about. The voice acting is not very good.

Character: 4/10
The manga could easily get 8 for me, with some nice character development happening with Hanabi, Iori, and Konomi searching for what their feelings truly meant - none of those happen in the anime. The other 3 residents even have their background stories and their own character development in the manga - none of those happen in the anime.
The anime just hits you with boom Konomi and Hanabi are childhood friends, they like each other - boom, Hanabi sees Iori naked, Iori likes Hanabi. The other characters don't even get their chance to shine.

Enjoyment: 4/10
Despite all these, I get some enjoyment out of it, but purely because I like Yuri, so yes, it's subjective. And I am glad to see the manga at least gets an anime adaptation. The ending leaves you very unsatisfied - even more, if you have read the manga.

This was a short and it’s not even an average short. It’s a Shoujo Ai with nothing going for it. The designs are cute, but everyone’s personalities are boring and aren’t memorable in the slightest. I’m already struggling to remember most of the episodes. There was a copious amount of fan service that didn’t add anything besides eye candy. It was basically just cute girls doing ecchi things. It wasn’t funny, it wasn’t memorable, but since it was a short, it’s not the worst thing out there. Chances are I’ll forget all about this anime by the end of the week.
...But I have heard people ... enjoy the manga. Maybe I’ll give that a shot.

tachibanakan traingle is a bad anime in everything an anime needs to be minimally decent

Story: 4/10: The story of Tachibanakan Triangle is undoubtedly the most decent thing of the whole anime, it is simple and very objective, without enrolaçoes and things like, but still not a big thing
art: 2/10: the art of tachibanakan triangle is fraquissima and generic, all the characters are generic and bland, the animation until it is cute at certain moments but it has several bugs and inconsistencies that make the experience even more impaired
sound: 4/10: meh, the opening and ending songs are completely forgettable, the ost also, I do not have ... much to talk about in this topic
character: 4/10: the characters are warm, none are terribly pessimistic but none are good, they are more or less
Enjoyment: 4/10: how about the sound part, I do not have much to talk about here, but it's in meh
Overall: 3.5 / 10, a meh from the beginning to the end, the technical parts are very bad, the characters are weak, the sound and weak part, the end is weak, nothing in this anime is good indeed, everything is in the more or less, always more pro less than pro

If you enjoy or love yuri genre anime like Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san or Candy Boy: Nonchalant Talk of the Certain Twin Sisters in Daily Life, you might be hugely disappointed with this one.

Because all Tachibanakan Triangle did was just replacing the male main character with a female one, but all the plots and gags are not much different from a typical boy's ecchi fantasy. It's a bit like Love Hina or To Love-Ru in an extremely short version without romance.

In brief, it's just a pseudo yuri anime as it has got no essence of the yuri spirits in it.

In terms of art, it's ... fine.

As its only 3 minutes short, and if you like boy's ecchi anime, it's easily to pass time.
