I'm so happy to see a new season of Natsume Yuujinchou, I thought it would not going to happen. It is, no doubt, my favorite anime. Good story, great characters, with a calm e heartwarming atmosphere. Some episodes will make you laugh, some episodes will make you cry, but most of them will make you calm. My heart fills with happiness everytime I watch Natsume Yuujinchou.
Natsume Yuujinchou has a lot of characters with their own particularities. Natsume had a tough childhood, always alone and being bullied, it could have been a reason for him to hate people, but instead, he has compassion and he's able to do anything for those who are important to him. Nyanko sensei, despite trying to look
tough, he has a big heart and cares more about Natsume than the book. He is fun, funny, cute, brave and, especially, loyal. I'll not write about every character, but I can say all of them are really well worked. Even the Youkais who only appears in one episode. Their stories are always showed in a deep and interesting way.
Art and animation:
The art is beautiful. Without exaggerations, simple, and its simplicity makes it so marvelous. Great character's design, no unnecessary details. I love everything about the art style... The characters, the sceneries, the youkais/ayakashis. Everything. And I really love the animation of Natsume returning the Youkais's names, it's pretty ang magical.
The music is marvelous, as always. Not only the opening and ending music, but, especially, the background musics. They match so perfectly with the situations, give you good so many good sensations, sometimes it even gives me goose bumps. Just wonderful, best OST I've ever heard.
If there's one anime I want to recommend to EVERYONE, this anime is Natsume Yuujinchou. read more
I almost went into labor when I knew that Natsume Yuujinchou got a new season. And ooommmggg, it were four long years of waiting, goddammit! I thought they had canceled the animation projects, but then this came out and I became extremely happy to continue watching the adaptation of one of the best Shoujo manga (if not THE best) that exists in the manga market. Geez, I don't know if I'm able to tell in this review how much excited and sincerely pleased I'm right now. Finally!
Story: The plot goes on telling about a high school boy who can see and communicate with spirits (actually supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore, to be exact), also called youkai. Despite this "ability" seemed to be something interesting, actually was a factor causing much suffering to Natsume: from a child that was considered "strange" in all schools he went to, as a poor orphan always being passed from relative to relative and always being rejected because of his peculiar attitudes that usually caused fear and anger in others. Natsume always tried to explain and talk about what he saw, but nobody believed him and he was regarded as a liar, repeatedly. Thanks to the constant situations of misunderstanding, rejection and even bullying, Natsume has grown introverted and unhappy - and he also develops a feeling of disgust for any "non-living" creature. The problem is that Natsume couldn't do anything about his ability to see youkai and even worse, many of those spirits were really dangerous. One day, however, Natsume discovers a book - apparently that belonged to his grandmother - that somehow "control" the youkai. From there, his life begins to change gradually.
Specifically speaking, Natsume Yuujinchou Go tells us more about the development of this previous story, deepening the personalities of the characters, the relationships between them and some other small details that are being discovered every new episode. I really feel pleased to see that the studio is taking this job seriously and trying to join the loose ends in the previous seasons. The story has been built as a puzzle and it's becoming more and more lively! And I could not help but comment that it's super cool to discover new things about this new plot, which is full of interesting surprises! You keep asking yourself if someday Natsume is going to have to choose between human world or youkai world or if he's going to handle both of them.
Art is still warming and super well done. The small details of each scenario makes you want to stop and admire every little thing. I'm glad this didn't changed. I really like the style of the traits! It's that kind of animation you can pause at any time and rarely find failures.
Character: Natsume Go tell us more about those incognito and mysterious characters like Matoba or Natori. And that is definitively something that urged me and bothered me since the first season. Natsume is still that gentle freaking cute boy trying to help everyone, Madara is still funny and sarcastic as ever (aaaand round as ever). Until now, I've been feeling that something is about to change in the Fujiwara's house because of Natsume, but I really hope they end up well, cuz they are a really lovely family. Also, we finally get to know more about freaking super Reiko! She's more awesome than I thought! How is this even possible? hahaha <3 I just love her so much and this is great.
Sound: Apparently, the background soundtrack is still the same as in previous seasons. And it's still wonderful, full of Japan's typical music details that give a special touch for the "more adventurous" moments of the series. Besides, I love how the songs are sad and cherish at the same time.
The opening and ending songs also add enough content that the series attempts to pass to the viewers, and well, I was so homesick about it that until now I didn't fail to see and hear any of them until the very end.
The voice actors are still doing a great job too! I just love how they transform the plot into something magical just by the tone of their voices.
So, if I'm enjoying it? Plenty! This anime is still outstanding and amazing as ever. Sometimes I find myself looking forward to the unfolding of the story, I get scared with some shadows and creepy youkai that appear from time to time in the corners, I get myself laughing at cute and funny stories about youkai, I get glad to see that Natsume is managing to survive well and a little happier, despite the difficulties. I wanted so freaking much to get in the story and hug him to death!! Gosh. Can't hold my feelings because, wow, there are so many. I usually do not like suspense stories, but I'll make an exception for Natsume's Book of Friends, because this is getting tremendously good!read more
