Dies Irae

So I have seen a lot of the reviews about this show and that its basically a confusing mess which meant that the show had been given a low score overall, If I'm being honest I'm disappointed and confused to how the majority don't understand this show, Maybe its just that people are too simple minded or to put it bluntly, dumb, The show is very easy to understand as you progress through the show and the synopsis back's that up, Since I'm being honest, I will say that if you don't understand the show then you have no right to judge it, If ... you do and still think its bad then that's cool, Everyone has their opinion but those people who would watch a show, give a public review and not even understand what the show was about are the worst.

Anyway now that I have got through that I will give a review that makes sense and one that's not dragged on for 5 paragraphs.

So the show DOES start off confusing as hell in episode 0 where we are introduced to a cast of characters, No knowledge about what going on, I thought, I'm just going to see where this goes and next thing I know, I'm left at the end wondering what it was I just watched, Next we get introduced to another cast of characters in the next episode where the zero and first episode's feel like they were completely unrelated, Now I did say I wouldn't drag this on and I wont, Now after this just until half way through the show it can be very confusing and the relation's some of the characters have to certain factors in the show can leave you scratching your head however if you have managed to keep watching through all the confusing stuff, You will begin to understand how everything fits in to the story, piece by piece and trust me when I say this you will be thrilled and totally on board to watch the rest, Like I said at the start of this review people had called it a confusing mess but quite frankly their are only two reasons for this I can think of its because you gave up on the show or your simply dumb as I stated before, Now the show is not perfect by any means, it has its fair share of criticisms from me, One being that certain characters were cut off from the show without any chance of a real introduction, however their were also characters who were cut off and did have a brief introduction it felt like some characters were just their as place holders just to fit the story, The story its self was great but the characters through the show not so much.

Conclusion
The story is great if you understand it by the half way mark but through the show the characters don't really have anything special about them, their reasons for doing what they are doing are mostly stupid, most die unnecessarily so it can be annoying however like I keep saying the story its self is great and makes up for what the anime lacks.

Plot/Story: 6/10
The plot of "Dies irae" presents a challenge for viewers, even for seasoned veterans of the genre. It revolves around a group of characters whose lives are intertwined across generations due to the influence of gods. While the plot is interesting, it can be confusing and complex. The adaptation overall respects the franchise, but it may require some effort to fully grasp.

Animation/Design: 8/10
The animation in "Dies irae" is impressive, particularly after Episode 7. This is where the anime shines the most, especially in its intense and visually stunning fight scenes. Each encounter is a feast for the eyes, featuring expansive and destructive battlefields. The ... powers displayed by the characters are remarkable, thanks to the talented artists behind the show.

Characters: 5/10
The characters in "Dies irae" are relatively basic and predictable once the plot unfolds. While they are easy to define, their motives can remain unclear, making it challenging to fully understand why they are driven to their actions. Fortunately, by the end of the show, the characters' motivations become more apparent.

Audio/Soundtrack: 8/10
The soundtrack of "Dies irae" is a standout element, adding to the overall experience. The orchestral tracks used throughout the series fit well with the theme of the show. Despite relying on the same four tracks across all 17 episodes, the music is not tiresome and enhances the atmosphere effectively.

Honorable Mentions:
"Dies irae" showcases impressive designs reminiscent of Warhammer 40k, featuring large monsters and cathedrals.

Review Conclusion:
I recommend giving "Dies irae" a chance, but it requires patience as the show picks up its momentum later on. The late-game payoff is worth the investment. The ending may vary depending on individual preferences, so I won't spoil anything. If you're not fully engaged by Episode 9, it may be worth considering dropping the show.

There are not many animes that look good on first sight and have interesting synopsis, but end up as something way worse than underwhelming or bad. It's just awful.

The plot was confusing and messy, however even these two words are not enough to describe how much of a trainwreck Dies Irae was to watch. Every episode generated more questions randomly popping out from newly introduced characters or themes, without of course answering most of stuff that had happened earlier.

Bad plot and chaotic writing could've been fixed a little by characters present in the show. Well, in this case they weren't. Characters are bland and act ... very often in edgy matter. Both protagonists and antagonists didn't feel realistic, relatable or even likeable.

Art style and effects? They were okayish. I had hopes to at least see good looking fights, but they were chaotic and not that good looking.
Character designs were nothing special.

Music and voice acting? Music wasn't bad, but felt to be used in random manner, as if creators thought "hey, let's put this classical music tune here, maybe it will fit what's going on on screen". Don't get me wrong, because there were moments where the music fit the visuals, but doe to chaotic plot I described earlier it's hard to tell whether most of scenes with classical music playing in the background actually fit the atmosphere.

Why such low score? I think this show deserves it. It might look good and have few moderately good looking scenes, but it can't compensate all those elements that simply were sad to look at.
