Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (Snow White with the Red Hair)

Although her name means "snow white," Shirayuki is a cheerful, red-haired girl living in the country of Tanbarun who works diligently as an apothecary at her herbal shop. Her life changes drastically when she is noticed by the silly prince of Tanbarun, Prince Raji, who then tries to force her to become his concubine. Unwilling to give up her freedom, Shirayuki cuts her long red hair and escapes into the forest, where she is rescued from Raji by Zen Wistalia, the second prince of a neighboring country, and his two aides. Hoping to repay her debt to the trio someday, Shirayuki sets her sights on pursuing a career as the court herbalist in Zen's country, Clarines.

Akagami no Shirayuki-hime depicts Shirayuki's journey toward a new life at the royal palace of Clarines, as well as Zen's endeavor to become a prince worthy of his title. As loyal friendships are forged and deadly enemies formed, Shirayuki and Zen slowly learn to support each other as they walk their own paths.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE ROMANCE! It beats any Disney movie and any romance anime. I have rewatched both seasons in dubbed and subbed over a dozen times- it is just that good.

To any romantic at heart- this show is amazing. It doesn't include unnecessary lewd moments or immediately force romantic feelings. It is a story about two people who grow together as friends and discover the love that blooms between them. Not to mention the animation and the musical soundtrack are just beautiful. The only complaint I have is that it ended so perfectly at season two that there won't be any other seasons ...

Mixed Feelings

Howls and growls to all my furry friends, Kiba Snowpaw here, your favorite Ice Wolf and anime connoisseur, ready to shred through another review. Having been on the prowl in the realms of anime, manga, gaming, and films since the good ol' '80s, I've seen my fair share of hits and misses, classics and clichés. Today, we're sinking our canines into Akagami no Shirayuki-hime or, as it's known in the West, Snow White with the Red Hair.

Let's start by clarifying something. Snow White with the Red Hair is about as related to the fairytale as a cat is to a swimming lesson. No poisoned apples, ... no scheming queens, no industrious dwarfs. In this case, Snow White is a red-haired herbalist, and her prince charming is a...well, charming prince. Sounds pretty vanilla, right? Well, it tastes like it too, bland and uninspired.

You'd think that a show about a girl with apple-red hair who stands out in a crowd and catches the attention of a prince would be more exciting. But instead, it's as thrilling as watching paint dry. In the tundra. In the middle of winter. Seriously, watching the slow-moving courtship between Shirayuki and Prince Zen is like watching two glaciers collide, and I've seen my fair share of that living in the Arctic.

And speaking of Shirayuki and Zen, their characters are about as deep as a puddle in the Sahara. Shirayuki is the standard 'strong independent woman who needs no man', but the writers seem to have forgotten to give her any other characteristics. Zen, on the other hand, is your run-of-the-mill charming prince with a heart of gold. And while that might sound endearing, let me remind you, folks, gold is a soft metal. Softer than a well-cooked salmon, and just as appealing.

The anime doesn't quite know what it wants to be. Is it a political drama? Is it a romance? Is it a slice-of-life? It tries to dabble in all, but ends up doing a passable job in none. It's like that dog who wants to chase three squirrels at once and ends up with none.

The series also suffers from excessive 'filler' content. Entire episodes could be skipped without any loss of understanding or plot progression. It's like they're padding out the runtime for some kind of contract requirement. By the end of each episode, you might find yourself asking, "What exactly was accomplished here?" If I wanted to feel like that, I'd try to dig a den in the middle of a snowstorm.

So, to put it in terms of my fellow wolves, I'd have to say that Akagami no Shirayuki-hime is like that big, juicy moose that you spot in the distance. It looks promising from afar, but as you get closer, you realize it's just a mirage in the frozen landscape. All in all, the only thing more disappointing than this anime might be finding out that your favorite scratching post has been used by a bear. Hear me out!!This anime is not bad but it can be really predictable and tough to watch plus there is nothing to look forward, everything is crystal clear from the start,how the characters will end up, how the show will go forward etc.This is the type of romance anime I would recommend for new anime watchers who are seeking to watch a romance anime to watch. As for me I found the show to be too much predictable, but this is definitely the kind of anime I would have loved to watch when I just started watching anime, instead I got recommended to watch Sword ...
