Haikyuu!! Second Season

Following their participation at the Inter-High, the Karasuno High School volleyball team attempts to refocus their efforts, aiming to conquer the Spring tournament instead.

When they receive an invitation from long-standing rival Nekoma High, Karasuno agrees to take part in a large training camp alongside many notable volleyball teams in Tokyo and even some national level players. By playing with some of the toughest teams in Japan, they hope not only to sharpen their skills, but also come up with new attacks that would strengthen them. Moreover, Hinata and Kageyama attempt to devise a more powerful weapon, one that could possibly break the sturdiest of blocks.

Facing what may be their last chance at victory before the senior players graduate, the members of Karasuno's volleyball team must learn to settle their differences and train harder than ever if they hope to overcome formidable opponents old and new—including their archrival Aoba Jousai and its world-class setter Tooru Oikawa.

Haikyū!!: Season 2, the season that follows the rhythm of the first! I find that this second season remains on the same basis compared to the first season. It is always a pleasure to follow the Karasuno team and they evolve throughout the matches to perfect their techniques and to always become stronger. The animation and the character design remain the same. In terms of the soundtrack, I like the openings and the endings which are more J-rock oriented. The OST is still as good. In short, this season remains on the same wavelength as the first season, which is still as pleasant to follow!

Mixed Feelings

Now I know what some people might say. "If you didn't like the first season of the anime, why are you continuing it?" And my answer to that is, I'm a filthy completionist and I decide how I want to waste my time. But as I continued the anime, watching Haikyu started to feel like drinking water, without the health benefits. It's something I don't particularly look forward to, but it's such a minor thing that it has somehow become part of my life. Also, I only fell asleep once during this season of Haikyu, so that's already an improvement.

The ... only thing I can really do is adress the elephant in the room. Why on Earth is this season a 6 and not the previous one? The return match against Aoba Josai was a lot more predictable than the first one (I remembered their name this time, I'm proud of myself) so surely if anything, this season should be a downgrade. Well, I think that the lack of an exceptionally high moment makes the series a lot more consistent. Not to say there weren't any good moments, at least the match against the guys in yellow was enjoyable, and it got me to understand some of my distaste for this anime, aside from the obvious, like the fact it's a stupidly bland sports shonen, without any exciting over the top action or deeper story to keep you hooked. There's also the fact the anime takes itself way too seriously. I believe Haikyuu could have actually been good if it played itself a bit more lighthearted instead of trying to be the good boy of shonen anime without trying to do something by itself without relying on the what has been tried and tested in other shows.

Something else worth pointing out is the small improvements in the production. Art style isn't quite as offensive as it was during season one and the sound design is actually up to modern standards (maybe it already was but I only noticed it now. Possible, it's still a boring anime, it just went from a high 5 to a low 6).

I watched both seasons back in middle school because I heard sooo many good things about it! “Most sports animes are boring but this one is so good” LIARR! BLASPHEMY! Watching this was like watching paint dry, honestly I would PREFER to watch paint dry.

Like, a good sports anime is “Stars Align” all characters each have very well written storylines, and it still is based all around the sport. Haikyuu sucked so bad I hated every second of it, none of the characters where memorable enough to learn anything about.

I remember the blonde haired guy with the bob cus he looked like a ... banana, i remember the orange one and the black haired one cus people like to ship them (dont they hate eachother?) and i remember the brown haired guy who was on the other team the one episode cus a lot of people I knew loved that man (he was so basic lookin……) i can vaguely remember the girl characters?? There were like 2 i think.
