Both are mecha, have a school-life setting, and have main characters with special powers.

These two anime bring together mecha, space opera and domestic highschool life. In ALDNOAH.ZERO, the Earth is attacked by Vers who are Martian colonists. Students on Earth learn to pilot mecha called Kataphrakts as part of their curriculum, it is only when their city is being destroyed by the Vers that they voluntarily take up the duty to defend themselves using the mecha they train with at school. The heroes of the show are led by pilot and tactical genius Inaho Kaizuka, the protagonist, and his bitter rival who fights for Vers is Slaine Troyard, who has a close friendship with Versian princess Asseylum. The reason why I think both serie are very similare is because how the character/plot developed during it's run time. In a way I can stay they're pretty much the same thing just with different characters. Also the MC in both serie starts off as a weak character but later on receive some sort of super power that allows them to save the day, also the female character are also very similar in both show. On top of that there're Mecha in both show as well.

Our main characters from both series were living a normal life until a fateful encounter changes their lives forever. Haruto Tokishima must pilot a mecha called Valvrave to save his friends. Aoba Watase must pilot a mecha to save a distant future. Both characters will meet their polar opposite counterparts—L-Elf from Valvrave and Dio from Buddy Complex. I will even add that Saki and Hina are very similar yet different. Both series share the same company (Sunrise) and character design. They even share the same personality to some extent. If you miss Valvrave and need another series to fill the void, I recommend Buddy Complex.

Both series are about a male student getting involved in a war when their neutral colony(Heliopolis/JIOR) gets assaulted by ZAFT/Dorssia. The assaulter's purpose is to steal a super weapon(Gundam/Valvrave) secretly developped in that neutral colony. The main characters have different perspective about the war. One has an internal conflict, doesn't want to fight, but has to in order to protect his friends. The other harbors hatred for the Dorssian, but is unsure about his role in the war. Also, the soundtracks for OP/ED are similar in both anime. The main difference is in Valvrave, the main character obtained an inhuman power.

Shiny colorful mecha fighting an initially much stronger enemy. Starting out with some occasionally even absurd bits, but after a while the darker secrets start to raise their heads.

Both anime depict great art and designs for the machines and great battle scenes. They both also include romance which goes well with a well thought out storyline.

Tragedy, harsh reality, and overcoming obstacles await the main character(s) in both Cross Ange and Kakumeiki Valvrave. If you enjoy watching character development when facing a reality check, then try the other. Plots are completely different. -If you have zero tolerance for fan-service, Cross Ange is NOT for you-

Both are a fun series with a grup of young people piloting badass Robots, which fights the world. Both have that that "autoparody" feel into it, with Gundam 00 being a little bit more serious in few aspects :)

Both are Sunrise anime about teenagers floating in space while defending off attacks from outside forces with their mecha. Both deal heavily with the personal relationships of the teenagers involved while they "struggle" to survive in the hostile environment.

It seems that the main male protagonist from both series gets caught up into some affairs related to the military and mecha warfare. Their lives changes forever from that day. Both series' main male protagonist seems to be brave but at the same time gets angered easily. He also seems to have feelings for one of the main female characters. Both series involves mecha, action, science fiction, as well as strange origins related to the main antagonists.
report Recommended by Stark700
Both series have a group of students trapped in a massive international conflict as leading roles. However, they don't manage well with relations between characters. - Starship Operators is more focused in warship battles full of tactical manoeuvres. - Kakumeiki Valvrave has mecha action, but it's a generical Sunrise anime full of nonsensical situations and plot twists.
report Recommended by Eriol
The series give the same vibes: - Overpower mecha "killing" their pilots. - Students founding their country/company. - Space theme. - Politics.

Both series deals with the conflict of battles/wars against a certain adversary. In order to combat their foes, the usage of mecha is employed that requires skilled pilots to handle them.. In both series, the main male protagonist shows aggressive behavior in fighting his enemies but at the same time cares about his comrades. There is also hints of romance tensions between the MC and the main female protagonists from both series. Among other factors, there is strange origins regarding the mecha of both series as they seem to have mysterious powers. (they are considered super weapons). There is also some comedy, drama, and tense moments between  read more

Weak willed and neutral student protagonist died at first episode but with returns with mysterious powers (not exactly supernatural) and mastery for a similar designed melee-type over technology mech. At beginning of first episode, protagonist's only two real friends: His childhood girlfirlend and a big brother figure. Mech have bond between his user and can be operatable for limited time. Additionally, when re-activating Valvrave is very similar Linebarrels. (On re-activating process, Valvrave and Linebarrel does color changing) Valvrave Valvrave's 666 Mode and Linebarrel's Overdrive Mode is very similar (except aura's color difference) and both units uses dual Katana.

Since this Valvrave is similar to Code Geass, you may be familiar with Death Note or either way. A lot of twists, suspense, funny moments, and dark moments happen out of nowhere in both shows. L-Elf is like Lelouch who is like Light Yagami as well. Characters use supernatural powers but in a different way: Valvrave-Mecha and Death Note-Psychological.
report Recommended by Rikudo14
L-Elf is similar to Sven Cal Bayan as you watch both shows. In Valvrave, there are light hearted moments but at the same time it's filled with twists and dark moments that'll unravel and change the story forever.
report Recommended by Rikudo14
L-Elf and Dante look alike plus both shows deal with similar beings (Vampires and Demons) as well as suspense, dark tone, funny moments but not alot, and huge scale battles.

Both characters are similar. In both anime, there are a character that, at the beginning, were on the bad side, but then that character becomes good.

Both shows are dark, suspense, twisted, and light hearted moments but at the same time not happy. Both shows are in the same season format meaning they cover the first half episodes leaving a cliffhanger ending.

Okay Okay, so I know this recommendation is a bit of a stretch, but I think these shows are similar enough because the main things that I enjoyed in Escaflowne are the SAME THINGS I liked about Valvrave and Gundam Seed. These are the types of shows that obviously aren't writing masterpieces and they weren't meant to be either, but they're still highly enjoyable. I won't say they are trash (I gave them high scores), but they have a trashy, soap opera like quality to them. It's kind of a mess, but at the same time you can't look away! In a futuristic world, people have colonized space, yet some still live on Earth. Control of the human settlements is split between two major powers. Our story centers around a shonen living in a small, independent space colony. When it comes under attack by one of the powers, he hops into the nearest mech, which happens to be a superweapon, and proceeds to take the fight the invaders. Both series feature a supernatural power which is downplayed initially, newtypes in Gundam and vampirism in Valvrave. The main difference is that Gundam is a more military-focused anime about defeating the invading nation, while Valvrave is about preserving  read more

Mecha and idol? Sounds like Kakumeiki Valvrave, where one of its characters is an idol. Quiet and shy protangonist as well.

Ever since I thought about how Rahxephon is to Evangelion in terms of reconstruction & deconstruction, I've been thinking the same thing for Valvrave and CG & GC. Both Valvrave and Rahxephon are reconstruction of their perspective series but the only difference is that: Rahxephon examines the dark and serious sensibilities of the series Valvrave fixes the mistakes of the heroes of Code Geass and Guilty Crown

Valvrave may have elements similar to Code Geass, Guilty Crown, and Gundam Seed but it also similar to Gundam Wing. Both shows have mecha, drama, school life setting, and one man army protagonists who only uses few mecha to fight off tyrannical factions (Dorssia and United Earth Sphere Alliance/Oz/Romefeller). Both shows feature military and political conflicts between two or three nations. Most of the battles in both are done in space, and action in general is solid in both. With a very similar cast of characters, you could surely check out one of them if you enjoyed the other one. L-Elf is a lot similar  read more

In both anime, because of incidents/encounters, a normal male high school student becomes involved in a war between humanity and an alien race from somewhere in space. Both anime feature many mech battles along with other powers and abilities that are used in combat.

Before Darling in the FranXX, there was Valvrave the Liberator. There are few mecha series released every season and they rarely enter the mainstream consciousness. Darling in the FranXX was one of the rare series that became mainstream within the anime watching community unlike Valvrave the Liberator. It achieved this success partly due to its mecha mechanics that functions through the pseudo-sexual partnership of its pilots. Valvrave the Liberator has an equally impressive mecha mechanic that requires its pilots to essentially become vampires. To pull of these somewhat absurd mechanics, the stories are fairly melodramatic and over-the-top. The studios are making full use of their  read more

Eureka Seven and Kakumeiki Valvrave (Valvrave the Liberator) both deals with the usage of mecha in a world that has both mysteries and terrors. The main male protagonist in both series leads a regular and boring life until a faithful one day where an event changes him forever. The main male protagonist also seems to want to protect what he treasures. Additionally, they have a crush on the main female protagonist. There is science fiction/supernatural themes involved in both series. Additionally, there's military and action that involves the mecha used.

Worlds where things are powered by the energy of human memory. Beware of using up too much - otherwise you might lose yourself. Both shows have lots of 'feels.' (Tegami Bachi is more for kids, Valvrave is for older teens and up.)

Both are about a guy who lost his humanity and have to deal with some sort of Alien-Human conspiracy.

Both mechas based around high schoolers. Valvrave is clearly more aimed at comedy though but still has lots of twists. The two main girls come across as very similar too.

The epitome of a series that creates more questions faster than it could respond. In terms of their timeline, 'Kakumeiki Valvrave' is more on futuristic space mecha with deaths resulted by political matters while 'Hitsugi no Chaika' shines the limelight on the divergent old days where magic and slightly modern technologies are available. More focus will be placed on the hidden story behind ''Kakumeiki Valvrave' than the battle itself which is what both these series have in common. Despite 'Hitsugi no Chaika' being slow-paced at times, it does not obviate from killing which sets a tone on why the series is more superior compared to  read more

In essence, both series adopt the setting of a futuristic world where the usage of mecha is a tool that strikes both fear and intimidation to enemies. The main male protagonist in both series gets caught up in various events and seemingly witnesses violence and horror from them. There are also science fiction/fantasy themes that are not normal or from what we see in our every day lives. Among other factors, both series also have drama involving various factions of their worlds.

So bad that is good. Those two are like, totally random. Valvrave has great animation tho, Gun-dou.... not. At all.

Both shows are, despite clear differences in genre and setting, highly impactful, character-focused dramas which turn melodrama into an art, elegantly balancing genuine emotional investment in a surprisingly lovable cast and a flair for the patently ridiculous - space vampires and Valentines' Day chocolate might as well be one and the same.

To be more original, creators often introduce mechanics that will make or break their anime. Takt Op. Destiny and Valvrave the Liberator have very much different stories, but their main protagonists are suddenly thrust into having power...at a price. Haruto Tokishima (Valvrave the Liberator) accepts this price to protect his home from a galactic superpower. Takt Asahina (Takt Op. Kakumeiki Valvrave and Engage Kiss center their stories and combat mechanics on the Power at a Price trope. Haruto (Valvrave) is pushed into this situation, but accepts the price for altruistic reasons. Shuu (Kiss Engage) sought out this situation to pursue his revenge at all cost. How much will they sacrifice to pursue their goals.

Although Valrave's mainly derivative of Sunrise's famous Real Robot anime. One show that rarely comes up when discussing Valvrave's influences is Macross. The first season of Valvrave is about the journey of an entire space colony module, practically a city, filled with both civilian and military. Thus, there's a lot of civilian drama, involving romance, betrayal and friendship from Module 77's population of high school students, a lot like the SDF-1 in Macross, which was a civilian city on a massive military spaceship One of Valrave's main characters is idol singer Saki Rukino. Both anime are centralised on the mecha genre, and both achieve their renditions quite uniquely: Evangelion in a classic fashion, dependent on an interesting plot and a good character cast; Kakumeiki in a modern way, aided with contemporary animation and an intriguing early storyline. I am also reminded of Evangelion's main character Shinji Ikari when watching Kakumeiki's main, Haruto Tokishima, in that both have personal struggles and both of course pilot a robotic machine.
