Update October 27
The official site of Yoru no Yatterman has been updated with additional information. The series will start airing on Winter 2015, with each episode being 30 minutes long for a total of 12 episodes. The visual shows the current look of Boyacky and Tonzura. A new announcement will be made on November 10th.

Synopsis
A girl is looking at a remote island on the ocean named The Yatter Kingdom, a country that is said to be ruled by the hero Yatterman. The girl wants to ask the Yattermans for some help to cure her sick mother and decides to venture to the kingdom. She gets kicked out from the kingdom though and her mother dies without receiving any help.

Under Dokurobei, the boss of the Dorombo thieves that existed, lies a beauty named Doronjo. The two men, Boyacky and Tonzura, worked under Doronjo but got kicked out from the Yatter Kingdom along with the Doronbo thieves as they lost a fight against the Yatterman. This is the new generation of Dorombo—Doronjo, Boyacky, Tonzura, and new Yatterman—a story of the birth of Gan-chan and Ai-chan.

The staff of Tatsunoko Production, who consist of the creators of Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san, Gatchaman Crowds etc., will make a new story based on the original Yatterman.

and quite suddenly my excitement with this went from "YAY!" to "God, why?!"

maybe other character design will help my expectations... but somehow I doubt it.

I've always wanted to try getting into this series but it doesn't look like it has any subs.

Unfortunately the first series lacks subs and probably only a handful of people have actually seen some of it. The 2008 series does have subs available but I'm not sure if they're any good. There's just a lack of exposure outside Japan for this franchise.

For Japan this is probably awesome news though.

The subs for the 2008 version are terrible, even worse than the usual HK subs. It feels like someone troll subbed it, rather than machine translation. Stuff like:

Not sure what it's going to be, but please be a remake with the same cast, no Gatchaman Crowds crap.

Saw the live action last year; wonder how this one is going to be.

I'm not sure if there is lack of exposure - it was aired in some countries in Europe (I remember watching Italian dub in the 90s) and there was a live action movie - quite good and, it will sound weird, faithful to source material.

so maybe not many people in the West might know it but in Japan it might be more popular (and it's all that matters).

I wonder if Noriko Ohara (one of best voice actresses ever) will voice Doronjo this time as well...

Really too bad previous show aren't all subbed.

Will most likely not watch.

A show no one on MAL has watched is getting a remake and we needed an announcement for that. Sweet, hopefully it deserves it.

I would like to say I'm happy about it... but knowing old anime and how crazy it was - I'm not sure if they will be able to make something as good.

on the other side if they decided to make it more serious, than what is the point of calling it Yatterman?

Oct 20, 2014 8:09 AM by Dalek-baka

No idea what this is even about but yay? Will wait for more info.

Hey, Yatterman!! It sounds familiar to me.

Oct 20, 2014 7:25 AM by Tengai

Interesting, a shame there are not many ways to watch older series of it in good quality to enable comparing once this new show comes out.
