The ending was a bit sad, especially when we find out that she couldn't see ;__;

I was pretty sure she couldn't see for a while earlier in the episode, but the ending was still really nice. Another fantastic episode.

My favorite stand alone episode. That part at the church with the girl and Batou was magnificently executed, riveting and showed Batou's sentimentality.

One of my favorite SA episodes too. Just a little nitpick, the Siegessäule (Berlin Victory Column) at 66 meters in height, I couldn't fathom how Batou, given his super human strength to jump that high? Or did he just take the stairs?

Nice little representation of Berlin though Batou's commentary focused on the city's destruction and rebirth after the 3rd World War. Not much emphasis on the 2nd World War, or probably because of the timeline in the GiTS universe?

I love everything about Batou. I really thought in the end he was going to pretend to be the girls father to make her happy and give her the gift. Really sad.

Since he just got burned a few minutes prior by letting his feelings get in the way of his job, I couldn't see that happening, especially with the Major standing right there.

Anyone notice how this episode pays Homage to the film called "Wings of Desire"?

Did anyone noticed how Batou turned the pages right to left, even though the girl's diary was written in German? Yea, that kinda bothered me.

another sad episode :(

definitely surprised how high batou can jump, not to mention he seem not fond by dogs :P

it surprise me also how the girl was blind all along, guess her senses are strong just like what batou said :P

it's also sad when Batou and Motoko apprehended angels feathers and his daughter came to see him.

when Batou had to answer that "The Angel isn't going anywhere" it made me sad :(

and wow Motoko looking furiously as Batou mummers and answering the girl.

why you mean Motoko ._______.

all in all very sad episode and showed us how kind and heart warming batou is.

especially during the episode of the creator of the tachikomas.

The opening art of Berlin was amazing. This whole episode had a great atmosphere, and quite frankly the girl being blind caught me by surprise. The whole final church scene was sort of reminiscent of Cowboy Bebop with its action and Kanno's gripping music. Great episode once again.

That was a touching episode. Even though she is blind she still manages to write her diary. Looks like Batou has this problem with dogs. I still remember the part in Gits SAC when he tamed the cyborg dogs. And i felt very sad at that last scene in the church :(

Next to the Tachikomas, Batou is my next favorite character in the show. I am also starting to hate the Major now... she is soo not human, in all sense of the word.

The girls blindness probably explains the poor handwriting and the audio emails jive with this. Very good detail work from Production I.G.

Batou is a real ninja...

That ending was fucking sad. She didn't had to ''see'' that.

But that guy was a mad terrorist. And to play the father like if there was nothing.

It's time to Batou, to show his human side.
Episode in which a complete separation from the main plot is all over for everything to start also the context in which the story takes place.
It looks like a tribute to the strength of the Germans.
Narrative so sad and of great impact, especially if I reflect on what could make the girl despite being blind.
I was so excited at the end, Batou What I thought was going to comfort her and give him the gift, instead puts it in front of the harsh reality.
Finally, I wonder, what the gift will remain a mystery.
Even the most ruthless killer hides a part of her true self.
Drawings and animations discreet enough.
Beautiful frescoes depicted in the church.
A cute episode SA at the end.

Was thinking the same thing, then looked at the Major's face waiting for Batou to make another mistake as to show sentiment on the line of work, but, not being the Major there, I'm pretty sure Batou would've said something nice to the girl.
All the more, this ending was a sad one.

I liked the connection they made at the beginning with Goda's plan being them sent to Germany instead of having them messing with his plan and the Individual Eleven.
This kind of episodes are hardly a filler, but I believe that people, back in the day when the show first aired might've thought that way.
One of the many things I like about the GITS series.

outstanding, also the production values were incredible, there wasnt any flashy fight scenes but the background and the fluid realistic movements were downright uncanny at points, there were parts of the ep that were so fluid they looked like they belonged in the oshii movies

So I guess I'm the only one who thought Batou's reply at the end was kind of ambiguous? He didn't downright pretend to be her father at that moment, but "the angel isn't going to be going anywhere" sounds like he's considering keeping her "fantasy" alive in some way. Is it too much of a wild interpretation?

Its episodes like this that made me realize Batou is quite possibly the best character in the entire GitS franchise. While Major is pretty much the meaning of awesome and Togusa is quite an interesting character in his own right, there's something about Batou that makes it easy for the viewer to connect to him. Even though he is a cyborg, he's undoubtedly the most human among the cast, and that's probably the highlight in terms of the characterization.
