Nice! I've been trying to learn Spanish for the past 4 years with much difficulty. But still, English is a tough language to learn so congratulations. Tell me how Kino's Journey is when your done. I'm thinking about watching it.

I've heard nothing but good things about it. Hope it turns out well.
Now when you said you watch things dubbed do you watch it dubbed in English or Albainian? I see you live in Albania, but you speak excellent English, so I was just wondering.

Gurren Lagann is....... well crazy. It's a show that should by all means be terrible with all its cliches, but its so epic and over the top that all I can do is respect it. Sure, it can fall flat on its face sometimes but when the show is good it can really be entertaining. It's not amazing, but its a fun show to say the least. It also has a great dub and good soundtrack.
So what do you plan in watching next?

If you look at who he killed like that (mafia members and gangsters) I think you are looking at it in a different way. I look at it as sill taking someones life, whether or not they are good people or bad. The act of murder was still done. And while he did try and redeem himself, the acts he committed were still in the way of his goal of redemption. Thats why I think the series ended that way, to show the repercussions of actions that severe.
With Cal I agree with you 100%. It felt like a total cop-out, that the writers had no idea where to go with the character but to turn her crazy evil. I think the writers were trying to pass her transformation off with that fact that she was a teenager who was gullible into believing anything, but she would have to be a complete idiot to think that Reiji thought she lived through an explosion like that.

For the ending, I believe it is quite fitting. Both Zwei and Reiji are presented in the series as unfortunate people of surcumstance, but are still terrible people. The have murdered children without a second thought, so their death is fitting with the actions they have caused. I also think the ending is supposed to give a Clockwork Orange effect, where when the main characters kill, we feel fine but when they are killed we feel bad for them. It's playing on our attachment for the main characters and seeing how far we will sympathize with them.
Well at least you were able to get some enjoyment out of it. Really quickly did you watch sub or dub?

Yo, I have a quick question for you. Why did you love the Haruhi movie so much? I just watched it and could not understand at all the hype surrounding it.

The point you brought up about Near and Mello contrasting was something I never thought about. That's a pretty damn good point actually, so consider that complain completely void.
About L's death, at first I was shocked at why the authors would choose to kill one of the best characters on the show. But the more I think about it, in the grand scheme of the show, the choice to kill L off then was a great one. After L and Light worked with each other on catching the third Kira, it would of been weird/awkward to have them continue to work with each other. At episode 25 was overall the perfect time to kill L, while still being a great twist.
With Phantom for me the show was frustrating because every arc the show started with had so much potential but it was ultimately squandered. I can take over the top action but boring characters (who can be down right idiotic at times) and two flashback episodes (for a 26 episode anime there should be 0 recap episodes). The main romance even felt forced and contrived.
While the second arc was the strongest trust me the final arc is so unbelievable horrendous by the end thatt it's painful. But that's just me :).

Well I finished Death Note. Overall it was very good, but I feel as if the second part of the show was considerably not as good. For one the rivalry between Near and Mellow vs. Light was nowhere as compelling as L vs. Light. Near just felt like a rip-off of L, making his character less enjoyable overall. Secondly, Light went from a somewhat likeable, even though totally wrong, main character but the second half showed him as a complete and total bastard with no redeeming qualities. I figure that was the point the authors wanted to make, showing that the Death Note completely corrupted Light, but to make a series compelling you need to have a main character that has some likeable qualities.
Overall though I highly enjoyed the show. The music was great, animation was solid, dub was good and the show still had one of the greatest rivalries in anime.
So how are you enjoying Phantom? It is probably one of my most frustrating shows I have watched but I am interested in your opinion on it.

Always been meaning to watch the movie. I've heard nothing but praise from it. There are just some shows or movies that are a little intimidating because of their reputation. That's why it's taken me so long to watch Death Note, and why I still have not seen Code Geass, Gurren Lagan, Evangelion or FMA:Brotherhood. Same with movies such as Godfather II, 2001 and Lawrence of Arabia. I know it seems silly, but its some stupid thing with me. (Also the fact that I'm not a Kubrick fan might be why I've never seen 2001.)

Well, for me I was a HUGE Naruto fanboy during grade school when they still aired anime on TV. I also liked One Piece. But both those shows I watched and enjoyed, not really knowing they were anime.
The first anime I watched knowing it was anime was Afro Samurai, but the show that hooked me forever was Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. After that it was Samurai Champloo then Trigun.
Also, interesting that you say your hooker show was HS. It's not really a show any person can enjoy, or get people hooked on anime. It still is, at times, an intelligent show that has a wonderful dub.

Ill definitely get back to you when I'm done with Death Note now!
But with Kids on the Slope, you are right. The show did have pacing problems, but the show was able to connect with me more. I'm in highschool now so I could relate to the characters and the actions they preformed. I also enjoyed the music, voice over work and animation. I felt that the show tried to tell a melodramatic story but in a more mature way then other highschool shows out there. I still was not crazy about it, but was able to appreciate it. I'm surprised the director chose this project as it seems to go against what he normally does. Anyway that's just my opinion ;)
So anyway, just curious, what was the show that got you into anime? Not your first but the one that made you go "Wow I should watch more anime". I'm always interested in hearing others responses.

FLCL I put on hold, but for right now it's nothing special. It has great music and animation but little in any other catigory. With Death Note though I am greatly enjoying it. The characters of L and Light and their rivalry is truly incredible. Only things I can think of right now that I don't like with the show is the emo-rock opening and possibly Misa. So overall, it's quite good.
So how are you enjoying Kids On The Slope? I LOVED Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo and felt that while not as good as those two Kids was still excellent. (I refer to those two shows because the same director directed all 3.)

One episode in and I can see what you mean. The music is fantastic but the humor just is not really my thing. It's different which is nice, but its just weird for the sake of being weird.
