| Sengoku Collection Every episode in this anime is a parody of something else. http://d.hatena.ne.jp/makaronisan/20120816/1345066328 http://blog-imgs-53-origin.fc2.com/k/o/m/komopes/1348203155489.jpg It's in Japanese, but I think the episode number and the movie dvd covers would give you enough of an idea. Out of what's listed there and elsewhere, I can only guarantee that the whole of episode 5 was a complete parody of Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine, that there definitely were noticeable elements of Angel's Egg in episode 8, that Sherlock Holmes's nemesis was used in episode 19 (though the main parody of 8 and 19 are something else), and episode 21 takes place in 2001 A Space Odyssey. None of these are insignificant or trivial; for example, in episode 5, most of the episode is shown like a documentary, and in one of the scenes, the director/narrator that closely resembles Michael Moore placed the portrait of a decease boy in front of the brick pillar of a household gate, exactly like in the actual documentary film. If the rest of the parodies listed are as easily understood as the ones I got to those who watched the listed works (which seems very likely, looking at the extreme changes in style of not only story but also art (episode 18 for example) between each episode), then I believe this deserves to have parody in it. Most if not all of the episodes are heavily based on something else, and this parody direction is a crucial element to enjoying this anime. I personally would also like to have comedy taken off, because comedy is not a main theme pulled through the entire series, as seen by about half of the episodes. It's more like a series of variant genres that changes almost every episode built off of the aforementioned parody backbone, or homage backbone perhaps. Using moeified samurais in these obviously non-samurai situations by itself is not enough to make comedy a main theme. That is represented enough by the samurai genre. There certainly is comedy in this anime, but what I'm saying is that there is also as much action, school, police, and especially drama as well. It's odd to give the relatively comedic episodes a pickup over the rest. |

| I think that Date A Live should be tagged as a comedy, in the genres section. I have read the manga and it is an offering that wants to be funny and is funny. By extension, the comedy tag should be added to the light novel and the anime as well. Here is a link to the anime.
