Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan

Both feature a similar main character who is strong, but does not seem strong. 

Here comes the "incapable hero", but there is absolutely no way that they're THAT hero, because they're from all appearances the bumbling fool - or so everyone thinks. While the genre is different, one being of the historical genre and the other being of the space opera genre, they're both action and humor packed with very colorful cast of characters that will likely make the viewer fall in love or laugh their heads off, possibly even both. 

Godly Swordsman/Gunman wanders around in bright-colored clothes determined not to kill anyone and uses his amazing skills to save people leaving everyone around in awe. 

If you want to see a pacifist MC with a dark past be pushed far beyond his limit of patience, pushed into a corner, and forced to destroy his enemies in awesome fight scenes, look no further. Each show also has light hearted comedic relief, great plots, memorable characters, and great english voice acting. 

The main character in both animes seems like he is totally oblivious and clumsy, but he's really a major badass. That's about the only similarity, besides the fact that they both rock =) 

Both protagonists have a dark past, are immensely skilled fighters, and are being hunted for some reason. Both also appear unthreatening and vulnerable until forced to defend themselves and other, are clumsy outside of combat, and serve as their own comic relief. 

Both shows feature a highly-skilled warrior with a troubled past, wandering throughout the world on a mission of peace. Yet, despite their efforts, trouble follows them around, constantly challenging their main principle to not take a life. Of course, this is all done in a hilarious manner, but while in Kenshin the last 20 or so episodes are just funny filler, Trigun turns more serious the closer it gets to the end. 

Both protagonists have a troubling past that haunts them and both tries to bring peace to the land without killing. They are both very skilled in combat and both characters can be goofy at times. The only difference is that one has a Western, cowboy setting and the other has a Japanese, samurai setting

While completely different in setting, Rurouni Kenshin and Trigun share a main character who is trying to escape a violent past through a life of pacifism. They are helped along the way by an often pugnacious female and a really cool second male lead. Trigun is thematically like Kenshin, but has action more akin to Cowboy Bebop.  

If you like Tirgun you will LOVE Rurouni Kenshin....it's basically Trigun with Swords....the main character also acts like a dumbs like cash did...but he's actually the best swordsman just like cash was the best gunman....soooo cool 

These two anime are SO much alike and I think a list will best describe the similarities: *Both have main characters, who are masters at killing, but are instead pacifists. *The main struggle of each is that the MC is trying to escape his past, but each must ultimately confront. *Both are action heavy, but have a very goofy side. *MC have scars!!!! 

Goofy protagonists that can mow down anyone in their way without taking a life, but struggle with their pacifistic ideals as their series continue and their enemies become more dangerous and ruthless. 

Both of the main characters make the vow to not kill. 

Similarity -both are about a wandering person who is a mater of their own respective skills . . . -both are about justice. . . -a good blend of comedy and action, not the best but good enough. . . Difference -Trigun has a western cowboy theme, while Rurouni Kenshin has a traditional Japanese Samurai theme. . . 

-Both protagonists have a moral code who have sworn never break. -Both protagonists had a difficult past. -Both protagonists try to live a peaceful life 

To the point. The main characters are very similar and the type of fights are the same. Fans of the bad ass pacifist of Trigun, meet Kenshin, a sword swinging total kick ass sweetie pie who knows how to do laundry. If you loved Vash you'll love Kenshin. 

While playing in widely different settings, Rurouni Kenshin and Trigun both revolve around a protagonist who has sworn to never kill anyone after realizing their bloody actions. Both shows feature the journey of the character, while also having lots of action and a bit of comedy. The animation is also very similar.

In both series, the main character is a badass pacifist, and both storylines tackle similar themes. The settings are very different, but the overall feel of both shows is very much alike Side note: the first episode of both shows have basically the exact same storyline.  

Both shows star individuals who have achieved widespread notoriety through their past actions and are extremely skilled with their weapons of choice. The true personality of both individuals surprise the other characters who only know of them by their reputation. Both individuals, despite their reputations and status as dangerous warriors, have sworn to never take a life and go to great pains to abide by that vow. However, they are still willing to fight if necessary. 

Gintoki and Kenshin have a great deal in common. Both are former samurai who were among the most feared by their enemies during a great war. Like Gintoki, who uses a wooden sword to avoid killing, Kenshin uses a reversed bladed sword, for the same reasons. There are also many similiarities between supporting characters in the two shows as well. 

Gintama's character structure is completely based off of this story, and you will definitely enjoy to learn where the persona of the characters originated. Overall this is a must watch for anyone that is currently watching gintama.  

The heart of the Samurai - for those who are interested in the way of the samurai should like both series ^^ 

In Gintama and Rurouni Kenshin, the main characters Gintoki and Kenshin both are former war heroes of a great revolution, who now try to enjoy their daily lives as average civilians. Of course, the peace cannot keep up forever, as trouble surrounds these two as their pasts catch up with them. Since Gintama features almost every main character of Rurouni Kenshin either in character, appearance or historical role, yet comically exaggerates their characteristics and throws them into nonsensical adventures, it can easily be considered a direct parody of Rurouni Kenshin. 

1. both shows are about wandering samurai after a time when swords have been banned (but Gintama is more set in an alternate future where aliens have taken over and Rurouni Kenshin takes place in the Meiji period) 2. both the main title characters (Gintoki and Kenshin) are extremely strong with a darkish past 3. both use historical names/organizations (ex. Shinsengumi) 4. Kenshin and Gintoki are both very strong but handicap themselves (reverse-blade sword for Kenshin and a wooden sword for Gintoki) 5. Both Kenshin and Gintoki are against killing (Kenshin more than Gintoki) 6. Kenshin and Gintoki are very silly/goofy, but when they get serious their whole personality changes 7. Both anime are set in the same historical period, but with some big differences: while Rurouni Kenshin tries as hard as it can to be a historical accurated portrait of late 19th century Tokyo, Gintama is set in a totally fictional Tokyo where rounins and people dressed in typical Japanese clothes share space with advanced technology and aliens. Also, Kenshin and Gintoki have a very similar past, as both played a leading role in the ultimate Japanese Civil War and became legends; now, they want to leave their past behind and try to live a peaceful life, hiding their scars from the past with a carefree pose. And for the last but not the least, both main characters dropped the katana in favor of non-lethal swords like bokken (Gintoki) and a reverse-edged sword (Kenshin). Both about samurai who prefer not to kill people because of a violent past. Both employ drama and comedy in turn. Kenshin is more serious than Gintama, which has a lot of silly, immature, or pointless humor (which is, of course, part of its charm).  

Both anime series have samurais and dozens of hardcore action battles.

Two anime with different themes but accompanied by good humor and fighting, although both with more than one than the other. 

So maybe you're asking..why you're making a recommendation of these two animes? Well actually even if these animes are very different from each other with Gintama being comedy and serious battle shonen arcs(sometimes): -Both have historical setting..but If you liked Gintama you'll like the references and all the detailed story of edo period, and here it is taken in a more serious way with drama and romance -Both involve samurai There are only 4 episodes of Rurouni Kenshin Ova so be sure to watch those  

Both are chanbara (of course) Gintoki and Kenshin both run into a girl and her brother who run a dojo, and Gintoki much like Kenshin meets a sizeable cast of characters that have to help him stop a bunch of people determined to topple society. Gintama is primarily comedic but has quite a few fully serious arcs, and Gintama replaces the Western presence with Aliens (but both take place around the same time, that time being 1840's-60's Japan) 

Gintama basically feels like a parody of Rurouni Kenshin, besides both are great series with epic animation and badass osts with top notch voice acting 

Both were made around the year 2000 and are shown in 4:3 screen ratio. They are both focus on sword fighting and samurai type characters. They both make reference to real life historical figures in Japan and feature organisations such as the Shinsengumi and the Oniwaban. 

Both revolve around a former killer for hire trying to atone for his past. In both series, the protagonist befriends a teenage girl and a young boy, the former of whom is a love interest, and the latter of whom is a disciple.

While watching this show I couldn't help but be struck by the similarities it shared w/ Ruroken. - Both male protagonists have a dark, bloody past that they keep secret from their newfound families/loved ones. - Both male protags have a light, carefree personality but switch to badass mode whenever there's danger. -Whether it's a sad or happy scene, I couldn't help but feel it how similar both series were in terms of mood no matter the emotional setting. -The romance in both is subtle and moves at a semi realistic pace. -There is a great sense of family/finding a place to belong in both. -Both have great fight scenes, although ruroken's are a little more realistic. -Both are as of now, unfinished, but surprisingly it doesn't effect the enjoyment or satisfaction you feel when you're finished w/ either one. read more 

Both shows contain great action and a little bit of romance. Main characters have a dark past but are trying live differently. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the show), some old "buddies" can't comprehend this kind of change...  

Both shows share a similar main lead with the same past story. If you like concepts about righteousness give it a try, worth watching.

Noragami—think Rurouni Kenshin BUT with gods and demons. Like Rurouni Kenshin and its protagonist Kenshin, Noragami follows the story of Yato, who holds a dark past which constantly comes back to haunt him and threaten the people he cares for. Norgami brings the concept of Rurouni Kenshin and gives the story a twist which entices the audience magnificently. It is definitely something someone who enjoyed Rurouni Kenshin can appreciate. 

Both have a main character with a bloody past they don't feel good about, both of them change their attitude when their eyes change, both of them use swords to fight, both are kind of vagabonds and both have a girl who they have feelings for!  

the protagonists, I noticed, both have pasts of killing, and often give into temptations of killing. However, Kenshin is more slow paced and delves deeper into the redemption he seeks, while in Noragami, Yato's past is brought up by him less frequently.

Both samurai, sword cutting Anime with enough comedy to keep you entertained 

Both are samurai stories set in a similar historical context and period. They also portray the persecution of Japanese Christians in the past centuries (Samurai Champloo - canon material; Rurouni Kenshin - fillers). 

They're both about Samurai in the not-so-ancient past, but RK is less realistic and has some romance elements as well. 

Not only two of the best Samurai themed anime series getting around, but two of the best Anime series period. Both are very rich in historical content aswell. 

samurai traveling, sort of champloo has more traveling, but stories along the way to the final finish, characters similar (not really) but same Japanese style, relaxing entertaining stuff 

If you enjoy a Shounen which involves sword fighting, crazy awesome samurai skills and a tremendously realistic back story - I would definitely recommend Kenshin. The art styles are quite different however, you need to understand that Kenshin came out back in the 90s and Samurai Champloo is one of the new age ones. It sticks to the theme of Edo and Tokyo, the revolution around that time and how it not only affected samurais and nobility but common folks. Personally, these two animes made me research more about Japanese history than any other anime. 

both are samurai shows that are comedies, though they have different kinds of comedy. Both shows excel in characters and comedy coming from the differences between the characters. 

Both shows are pretty much about dudes with swords & a lot of fighting scenes too. 

It's a love story and a comedy, but not a love comedy. In both anime, the main character is a former mass-murderer who has deadly potential which is deliberately restricted (Inuyasha's necklace and Kenshin's reverse-blade sword). And mind you, both Kenshin and Inuyasha wear red kimonos (although in Kenshin's case, it's often violet). 

Rorouni Kenshin and Inuyasha are very similar. They both have to deal with not fitting in with most people around them because Inuyasha is seen by half youkai to humans and to demons he's seen as half human, and then kenshin used to be a man slayer so he has to deal with that and the guilt he feels for taking human lives. Inuyasha meets Kagome and he starts to transform into a better person (demon?) while also becoming friends with miroku and sango and everyone else. Kenshin also gets friends and settles down when he used to just be a wanderer doing good deeds. Both people are trying to change for the better. read more 

They are both about people (Kenshin and Inuyasha) battling with the past. Kenshin has do deal with his reputation of being the "man slayer". Inuyasha has to deal with Kikyo (dont know if I spelled that correctly). They also carry around weapons (Kenshin his reverse-blade sword. Inuyasha his giant sword [forgot the name]). I know this doesnt make them sound similar, but trust me. They have the same feel and immensly reminds me of one another. 

Both have a simular story line where one man/half demon seeks out to achieve their goals, to destroy their enemy. Along the way the gather friends to help them on their journey and the leading womans falls in love with the main character. 

Inuyasha and Kenshin share a lot of qualities, especially considering the 'feel' or 'mood' of the series. Where one is set in Meiji era, the other takes place in a fantastical alternate world, however both concentrate on fighting on the canvas of more light-hearted slice of life (which occasionally goes into deeper, darker drama) comedy and romance. All in all, if you watched one and want more of that feeling you had while watching, the other if the first place you ought to visit.

Sword fights and a historical setting 

Rurouni Kenshin is similar to Bleach as they both have swords, are action based mainly, have many funny moments and Kenshin, similar to Ichigo tries his best to protect his friends. 

Both of these animes have great sword fights. They also artistically do period art, though Bleach also has modern things in it.  

Ichigo and most shinigami in this series battle using sword. They have good sword fighting style. Meanwhile Kenshin and several characters in his anime also battle using sword as their main weapon. Both give us beautiful story with great sword fighting choreography. Two thumbs for both of them, banzai sword! fuck gun! 

I think, they're kind of similar, especially the main characters Kenshin <-> Ichigo. 

One can say Bleach is identical to Yu Yu Hakusho but underlying it's true message is that it is Rurouni Kenshin's spiritual successor with the setting of YYH. The story is about the orange haired male fighting to protect their friends with a sword powerful enough to slay evil to bring justice in a strict moral code. A lot of moral implications regarding politics are shown. Even anti heroes have the same standards. Ichigo's group is similar to Kenshin's: Ichigo-Kenshin Rukia-Kaoru Renji/Sado-Sanosuke Ishida/Urahara-Saito Kon-Yahiko Orihime-Megumi Isshin-Hiko Governments that are the central focus said to be corrupt as well: Soul Society-Meiji Government Antagonists are identical too: Aizen-Shishio Gin-Soujiro Tousen-Usui Espada-Ten Swords 

In many ways Bleach seems like a modern Rurouni Kenshin Ichigo/Kenshin: Both are warriors who fight with swords to protect and struggle with their inner demons Rukia/Kaoru: The most shipped love interest and also the first woman the main protagonist meets Renji/Sanosuke: Enemies became MC's best friend after being beaten by them Saito/Grimmjow: MC's rival Shishio/Aizen: Main villains who want to overthrow a specific government and rule a different world Sojiro/Gin: Sword prodigies who have their eyes closed most of the time and have the silent killer vibe I can go on but I think Bleach is more similar to Rurouni Kenshin than Yu Yu Hakusho as many say 

Both Rurouni Kenshin and Hakuoki are set in the similar time period, with many of the characters being skilled swordsmen, also with attractive qualities. The romance and action is paced well and very enjoying to watch unfold. 

These are both about the same time period, but are told from different sides of the war. This Hakuouki is more serious than the Kenshin TV series, but similar to the Movies.  

If you watched Rurouni Kenshin and you liked for Japanese history, then you'll like Hakuouki. It's all japanese history (adding some fantasy) and also historical characters.  

To sum it up, both are samurai and amazing. The main character protects the girl with romance development. Do not miss out! Also, please make sure you watch Hakuouki Hekketsuroku, the sequel to Hakuouki as well, since Hakuouki is really incomplete without it. Season 2 finishes up all the build up Hakuouki started and is ten folds better. 

Both feature the Shinsengumi and some epic fight scenes! The character of Chizuru can be somewhat annoying, but no (in my opinion) any worse than Kaoru. Hijikata, like Kenshin, is a lovable main character, and it's amazing to see some of the events that happened before the timeline of Rurouni Kenshin. +10 for historical accuracy (with some additions, of course)  

Both of them are about samurais of the end of the Edo period and beginning of the Meiji period. It can be said that "Rurouni Kenshin" setting is right after the "Hakouoki". Furthermore, after adding some supernatural elements in both of them, they're even more interesting. So if you are interested in samurai stories and in 1860's japan, you shouldn't miss them.

PMK is all about Shinsengumi, with Saitou, Okita and others, that "appear" or are mentioned in RK. Even though the titles aren´t alike, it is almost as seeing the two sides of a coin.  

samurai themed and both go back in time. they both contain the shinsengumi (in peacemaker, he is part of the shinsengumi and in kenshin the tall guy,forgot his name, came from there). the main characters both fight, but dont kill. i would recommend both to anyone.

Both are historical anime based around approximately the same time period of Japan's history. Both series feature samurai and shinsengumi; in PeaceMaker Tetsunosuke (main character) wants to join the shinsengumi but in Rurouni Kenshin shinsengumi are one of Kenshin's (main character) enemies of the past. Both series start out pretty light-hearted but get serious and quite dramatic later on. Also both have great funny moments! Also, both main characters have red hair. 

Both are very powerful Hystorical Fedual japan Samurai Story animes,however,Samurai 7 has a lot of cool advance technology influences to star wars,pretty worthy anime worth checking out,and short too,both animes are well written,are'nt repetitive,both have a cast of lovable characters 

The creator of Rurouni Kenshin takes the theme of samurai and explores parts of history left unexplored and finding his own twists on things such as the shinshingumi while Samurai 7 is a modern animated adaption of a classic black and white movie asking the what if of adding steam punk into the mix. Each are unique in their own way, yet appeal to those interested in not just the unique takes but the background story behind the making of a given series if they so choose to dive into the sources out there for said series. 

both story of a samurai who tries to save the people for justice  

Both set after a civil war and are about men of violence struggling to adapt to an new era of peace. These men are feared but should really be pittied. 

Even if Rurouni Kenshin is a bit old now (and long), the animation is still very good and I loved the atmosphere. It is quite similar to Dororo in a way - you are fully immersed in Japan culture and medieval past. Characters are interesting and in the case of Dororo they evolve a lot. Therefore, if you like samurai, Japanese myths and legends, you will definitely love these animes ! 

Samurai based anime with good animation 

Both are amazing swordsmen, with the struggle of becoming a "demon" or inhumane, when they fight with their sword. They are superhumanly talented when sword fighting, even when they have physical disabilities such as blindness. 

Its not exactly the plot or the action. Its more of the characters, and how great they are. The two main characters have a pretty similiar feeling of killing. All of the characters are very well done too. The comedy is very similiar in both series. They do have there differences though. 

Both story revolve around a main character who is an assassin and both have a secret dark past. Protagonist later turns away from the bloody path and decides to never kill again, in order to repent for his past actions. 

Both protagonists are former assassins that want to live more peaceful lives, but their pasts refuse to stay buried. 

Both shows combine elements of action & comedy. They also both have similar characters and art styles. However, Kenshin is set in ancient Japan, and is more about swordfighting while Yu Yu Hakusho is set in modern-day Japan and is more about fantastical power battles. 

both Rurouni Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho were a hit back in the 90's bearing similar animations and the stars of both shows are classic badasses ..the difference is one is more suburban and set in old school feudal japan starring a polite swordsman..where as the other is more urban and set to a modern time period of japan and features a rude and more impolite MC who fights using supernatural powers ...also rurouni kenshin almost feels like a spin off featuring human versions of Kurama and Hiei. Himura Kenshin (a human equivalent to Kurama) and Sannoske (a tall human equivalent to Hiei) read more 

Both have good fight scenes and a lovely group with badass protagonist 

I've always adored samurai anime like RurouKen thus Tsukikage Ran can be a good alternative to it. Both have good sword fighting scenes, comedic situations and decent story. Both characters are also "rounin" (wanderers) swordsmen although in Ran, the main hero is a SHE. ^__^ 

Same setting, same time period, and similar character personalities.  

Both anime are about a rounin wandering around the Feudal Japan helping people and doing justice. Kenshin is a thin and small androgynous man, but with a legendary swordsmanship (unlike his body shape). Ran is a very uncommon "samural girl", and also with an abnormal swordsmanship proficiency. 

very similar in terms of kenshin, the whole samurai feeling and the support of companions are quite similar. Also, kenshin has his 'battousai' side and kyo also has two sides. Samurai deeper kyo has a more serious atomsphere compared to kenshin. Overall, if you liked kenshin you might enjoy samurai deeper kyo, but in my opinion kenshin is better in every aspect.  

Samurai Deeper Kyo is similar to Rurouni Kenshin because they both deal with samurai and sword-fighting. Both are action-packed, humorous, and all around enjoyable. 

Both are about samurai with a very dark past. About moving toward humanity from within a killer. Both are healed by a relation with a woman, though it takes the entire anime for them to figure it out.  

Beautiful scenery and classic japanese style. Also one of the best animation and design ever. 

I've found this one trough recomendations for JK, it is indeed reminds me a lot about Twelve Kingdoms, but that's not all of it. It also reminds me about Mushishi and Rurouni Kenshin. Mushishi for it's slow, but intriguing pace with lore as a big aspect of the story. Juuni Kokuki for feudal East setting and fantasy aspects. Rurouni Kenshin for a warrior, who swore not to take another life. All in all it is an incredible title. 

Both feature a Strong warrior who have vowed not to kill anymore. Both have similar era's, and both of the warriors use their strength to protect the ones around them. If you want to get even more in depth both warriors have a similar back story, where a master swordsman/spearman saves the child from getting killed then teaches them martial arts.  

As Rurouni Kenshin, the duels in Hunter x Hunter are more based in Strategy and in the psychological state of the fighters than in special powers. Also, the majority of the cast in both anime are morally ambiguous characters. Lastly, both have great arcs, Yorkshin in Hunter x Hunter and Kyoto in Rurouni, that focus in a bunch of charismatic bandits that the viewer will surprisingly support and love. 

It's very enjoyable to watch Rurouni Kenshin if you have already watched Hunter X Hunter. There is a lot of similarities between these two top tier pieces of battle shounen genre, like the construction of the impact in the major scenes, the way with which the anime induces you to empathize with the characters, and the constant explanations of special powers. 

A rurouni is brought into the lives of a small group and ends up in a fight to save the country. BOth rurouni have an idea about their honor, one being to never kill again while the other is to accomplish one particular task. 

Both anime have story placed in the same era (give or take few years), and both are historical with fictional "behind the scenes" plots. Both anime are also about samurais.  

Asu no Yoichi! is a short running, harem, action comedy, whilst Kenshin is long running epic tale following a serious plot (with the odd comic moments). The basic elements, stuff you'll notice in each episode from the start, are the same: - traveling samurai deos the odd few freelance rescues - teenage girl, who's somewhat of a fighter living in a dojo, takes a shin to him - he moves in with this girl; becoming her underling as she's head of the house - dispite the fact that he's the all powerful hero, he always falls victum to tsundere tantrums 

They are both about an extremely skilled swordsman staying at a dojo that is taught by a young female. Kenshin and Yoichi both: -Wield a blade that doesn´t kill -Are extremely powerful -Are very honest swordsman -Are both very clumsy which leads to funny situations There are even some similities with their "rivals", Sanosuke and Wassan. They both: -Are fist fighters -Used to be "criminals" -Are very proud and confident in their abilities Yoichi is just kenshin in a modern era with a lighter story, more funny situations and kind of perverted. 

Inuyasha and Kenshin share a lot of qualities, especially considering the 'feel' or 'mood' of the series. Where one is set in Meiji era, the other takes place in a fantastical alternate world, however both concentrate on fighting on the canvas of more light-hearted slice of life (which occasionally goes into deeper, darker drama) comedy and romance. All in all, if you watched one and want more of that feeling you had while watching, the other if the first place you ought to visit. 

Set in feudal Japan, a samurai fighter must slay demons on his journey to avenge whoever character... Similar mood if you've exhausted your vast "InuYasha" library. 

Rurouni Kenshin and FMA: Brotherhood may have entirely different settings and stories, but the pace and character development in these two shows could not be more similar. Both shows strongly emphasize character development, fully developing the main cast as well as the side characters and villains so the viewer can fully understand all their perspectives. Also, the soundtracks of both shows are flawless. 

-Both have really good characters -Both have amzing mains charcaters -Both have an message, Kenshin is talking about the notion of evilness, while Fullmetal Alchemist is talking about becoming an adult 

Samurai era period with a main character so similar to Kenshin. An extremly skilled warrior haunted with a dark past for what he has done, now seeks and finds peace in atonement for his deeds. 

Both shows are samurai dramas based on historical facts, with some cool action, however S:MH is a bit more realistic and brutal. Although plots are a bit different, but Kenshin is basically the same character as Nanashi. Both of them are ronins who regret their past. Even though both of them were extremely skilled assassins in past, in current era they avoid to kill people no matter what. 

both based "around" the same time. and both kinda have the same feel like the romance building between the main characters. both have good action and similar art styles  

Among another samurai tales it has the same mood and the same kindness as Rurouni Kenshin. 

Both have a great story as well as a love story. Both play in the old japan and are very mature and have great action. They will also make you think and sad. I´m almost sure that you will like the other anime :)

Like Kenshin, Layfon just wants to start a new life. They both mask their true self and pretend to be ordinary; when in fact they are master swordsman. They both have girlfriends that are determined and also skilled at the sword.  

Simple enough to say: they're both made by Nobuhiro Watsuki, have a similar style of comedy and drama, and Busou Renkin has a couple of parodies from Rurouni Kenshin in it. 

I'm no shounen expert but this two animes seemed very similar in terms of structure, art, fights, humor and characters, although the setting and the fighting technics are different. 

Naruto and Himura are both warriors of some sort who strive to defy the odds. these 2 guys persevere to turn the impossible into the possible and fight not to kill but to change minds and hearts......also both rurouni kenshin and naruto shippuden have a whole lotta Social Studies that's right History class ...so other than being Shonen greats if Social Studies is your favorite class these 2 are the anime for you 

Both classic samurai anime. Both feature a main character who cannot be matched in swordsmanship when he gets serious. Both have great villains & character designs.  

If you enjoy sword fights and a tragic hero then Kenshin and Berserk are for you. They both have a manslayer as a protagonist and are full of action-packed battles. While one shows the reformed side of a sword fighter and the other the manslayer side, they both have two deep characters that will make your heart ache for them. Each series' lead character, Gatsu and Kenshin, know only one thing in life: the sword. Each of them relies on this knowledge, for better or worse, to live their lives and to help the ones they love. 

The core cast of character personalities are very similar to one another (Allen/Kenshin, Lenalee/Kaoru, Lavi/Sanosuke), and the shows, despite having completely different storylines, have a similar feel to them, as they both start out somewhat silly and end rather seriously. Plus, both are long series based off of manga that hadn't finished during its original broadcast time.

While it may seem that the two series are very dissimilar in setting; the two anime are in fact both very similar in terms of the attributes of the two main characters and themes, particularly about the main character's vow not to kill, and the need to protect the woman who is close to them (and who reminds them of a former lover whose deaths they feel responsible for.) Abel and Kenshin also resemble each other in the way they turn into dorks in order to hide their true natures.The leading women in question (Esther and Kaoru) are also feisty and strong-willed. Kenshin is more lighthearted than Trinity Blood, and the animation style and some side-story plots are also not as sophisticated; but Kenshin is thematically stronger and better directed than Trinity Blood. All in all, if you enjoyed Trinity Blood, you will enjoy Rurouni Kenshin. read more
