SynopsisHaving fun in school, doing homework together, cooking and eating, playing videogames, watching anime. All those little things make up the daily life of the anime- and chocolate-loving Izumi Konata and her friends. Sometimes relaxing but more than often simply funny!

Both have a fairly small cast of interesting characters taking part in very everyday events, and both are extremely satisfying.
They're both slice-of-life and about a group people who are going through high school.
Both is about absolutely nothing and really cute. I like Lucky Star better though, I think it's way funnier.
Another slice of life anime
Funny story about everyday schoolgirls ^^
Both are slice of life, neither have any particular point that they lead towards but touch on a wide variety of topics.
In both these anime they have a school girl life with tons of friends and laughters, so if you like one of there. You should watch the other!=3
Both are about a bunch of high school girls. Silly things happen.
They both revolve around school, hanging out, eating and having fun.
they both pretty much gotta do with like school in some way or another and their both really cute anime ^^
Azumanga Daioh and Lucky Star are comedies that rely on slice of life moments without a definite plot. Both follow a group of Highschool girls and the humour is derived from the interaction between the members of the cast, most of which display a zany behaviour. Azumanga Daioh's appeal might be wider while Lucky Star includes some otaku jokes that might be lost to many but both titles are likely to interest the same kind of public.
If you like slice of life anime like Azumanga Daioh but want a more wacky show watch Lucky Star.
Cracky comedy, extreme weird high school girl characters and a random slice of life story, these are mainly the things that these anime have in common. Quite a lot, ne?
Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh are both lovable for the same reason: the beauty of nothing really happening. Both simply follow the lives of a small group of lovable characters in their daily lives, with tons of comedic material thrown in. Nothing super natural, no magic or space fights, nobody jumping into the air 50 feet at exactly the same time and hight as a long time rival only to kick each other's legs several times and fall...
Slice of life w/ high school girls in comedy situations. Alot of moe situations...
...and both have my favorite Cafeteria lunch time skits ^_^.
Both animes are about a group of normal (or not so normal) girls just trying to make their way through high school. These series have lots of running gags and clever one-liners that you'll come to remember them for. While Lucky Star is more for the otakus since it contains lots of references to other anime and Japanese culture, both contain characters you will fall in love with and will make you look at school and life in general in a humorous type of way.
Both are completely random comedies set in high school, and neither of them really have all that much of a plot. The main difference is really just that Lucky Star uses a lot of references to other shows in almost every single episode, so Azumanga might be a lot easier to "get" for people who haven't seen that many anime-series before.
Both have a awesome set of girls as the main leads. They follow the "Slice of life" genere with their fancy twists and turns. Major comedy in them as well. If you are a all around fan of anime, these series have lots of puns and whatnot. You can't go wrong with this.
Both are school comedies and don't have a real story line. Lucky Star is the otaku version.
Two titles that have completly crazy main characters with mixed unenviable history about hm... just life ...school life XD
Well, they have a similar feel to it and they're both slice of life and comedy anime. The difference though is that Lucky Star has references to several anime and to the Japanese culture. But other than that, both shows are pretty similar in following the lives of a group of high school girls.
Lucky Star's comedy is mostly being carried by Hirano Aya, and the rest of the gang play off her character. For Azumanga Daioh, everyone on the team works together with the others, so they function like a group, each is funny in her own way and they play off among on another. Lucky Star is basically talking about high school nothing, ala the Seinfeld Style. For Azumanga Daioh, there are very small arcs for the purpose of driving forward humor. Both 4koma-turned-anime shows about school with Azumanga Daioh being a little more slapstick and less Otaku humor driven.
Very similar slice of life animes.
Both are similar in that the main characters are all female, and similar personalities.
Azumanga Daioh is basically just like Lucky Star without all the anime and game references, well, at least not as many. Azumanga is far better than Lucky Star is, though, on many leves.
Slapstick, crazy, weird comedy. Many references to Japanese culture, high school girls, etc.
Kind of obvious, really-- both are based on 4komas, deal with the daily life of a group of girls, COMEDY, et cetera.
It is also based on high school life. The charaters are almost the same way, but Lucky Star has Konata. She is an anime lover, a gamer, and the best cramer you'll ever meet! Kagami is kinda like Yomi. Always telling Konata to do her homework. And seems to always make her point. Tsukasa is like Osaka! Only Osaka is funnier, and Tsukasa is Stupider. Then brains with the biggest breats, Myuki! Overall i have to say Lucky Star is one of the funniest animes out there. Hope you watch and enjoy!
Both series have similar plot lines and characters. Both are also "anything goes" when it comes to topics and are pretty episodic.
It is like - looking through a reflection of itself. LUCKY STAR IS AZUMANGA DAIOH!!! Only focused on one year of H.S., not 3...
Both are about the everyday lives of several high school girls as they graduate... Both series also offers a dynamic cast of characters!
Slice of life, school, funny characters.
Both are utterly plotless relying solely on the personalities of each of the characters for the comedy. Lucky star is, in effect, Azumanga daioh in a brand new skin.
Similar comedy style, its offbeat and centers around the lives of a group of high school girls.
Both these shows revolve around a group of high school girls, their experience of high school and their personal lives. But in contrast to Lucky Star's brightly colored animations azumanga's animation is more dull to put focus on the fact that it wants you to pay more attention to the jokes and the physical comedy.
They both star high school girl and talks about their everyday lives and you get to learn more abotu Japanese culture!
Puns, Puns, and more puns. A fun way to learn about Japanese pop culture.
School, comedy and much fun! If you rly liked Azumanga, u'll be more than pleased with Lucky Star ;)
Its both about the daily life from Schoolgirls whithout a big Storyline.
It's based on gags about School, games and Japanese Daily life.
Both are slice of life comedies featuring a group of a high school girls and their random adventures throughout high school life.
Pretty similiar humour and feeling
It´s the same type of light humor. The series shows the life of a group of female high school friends and individual moments of them which are very funny. Also their teacher is a women maybe in her late 20's who lives alone, is aloof , single, and crazy.
Same plotless comedy with awesome characters and original jokes.

Both have the same voice acter for the main roles, both take place in school, both star teenage girls. Same genre. Need I say more?
Same voice actors, funny, and KyoAni made it.
This anime is AMAZING! It has something for everybody in it! I can't describe it very well; all I have to say is: WATCH IT!
Lucky Star has to be one of the funniest and randomest animes I've seen by far! The reason why these two are recommended for each other is beacuse Lucky Star's main character Konata is a complete manga/anime/game otatku and her favorite anime character is, none other than, Haruhi Suzumiya! Lucky Star has all sorts of puns and such of some animes and games...gotta' love it! SO I suggest this sereis 100% to anyone who likes a good laugh! hyuu~!
Both shows are pretty random but are so funny. Also Lucky Star plays of TMOHS because one of the main characters, Konata, loves Haruhi and cosplays as her in a cosplay cafe.
Haruhi Suzumiya is often parodied in Lucky Star, they are both from the same studio and both have weird humour. You'll definitely like the other, if you like one of them.
It makes alot of fun out of the melancholy, so if you haven't watched it you might find Lucky Star a bit stale (if that's even possible)
Lucky Star has alot of humor relating to Haruhi, and draws alot of its jokes from it.
they are both ironic in a way, and the dance for the opening (or ending?), is kind of similar, how they're both dancing with pom poms and cheerleading outfits (come to think of it, their outfits are similar also, just a different color) and how theres like 5 or so people dancing.
I don't need words to say that these two animes are very similar.
It was made by KyoAni, also.. and there are lots of references to Haruhi in there!
(And there's dancing. >3)
Same voice actor (Aya Hirano) for main characters of both Suzumiya Haruhi and Lucky ☆ Star (Haruhi-chan and Kona-chan, respectively), same studio, similar characters and humor.
These are both a 'slice of life' anime. The main characters are a bit on the odd side, but still lovable. Both animes have a strange sense of humor. These are so similar that fans have made up the names "Konaharu" and "Izumasuzimiya". In Lucky Star, many references of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya are made.
OMG!! HIRANO AYA!!! <3 <3
They a strikingly similar in may ways and aspects, if you like Lucky Star, you'll love Haruhi Suzumiya!
Both animes are produced by KyoAni. Lucky Star has a lot of Haruhi references in it, so some of those might make sense if you watch Haruhi. Also, the main main character (Konata for Lucky Star and Haruhi for Haruhi) are both voiced by the same person. They both take place at school, too.
They have similar casts and the quirky humor is still there. Both are also slice-of-life (like) anime.
lucky star spams haruhi references like crazy so for maximum enjoyment make sure you watch haruhi first.
the voice actor of haruhi is the same for konata...the best char in this anime :D
Excluding the fact it's made from the same company, Kyoto Animation, in almost every episode there's a Suzumiya Haruhi parody as well as parodies from other anime. Most of the seiyuus from Haruhi are also in Lucky Star as well. Don't judge it by the 1st episode, it gets better!!!
hmmm well lets see lucky star takes some scenes from the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya and its so funny its a must see if you like it and also stupidity makes it more enjoyable and puts a smile on your face ^^
You've got to watch Haruhi before you watch Lucky star. There's just too many references in Lucky star you wouldnt get if you hadnt watched Haruhi. Plus theres Seiyuu and same animation company Kyoani.
There's a lot of Haruhi refences in this anime, Konata (the main role) is an otaku, and is also a fan of the Suzumiya Haruhi anime.
Also, she dresses like her in one episode, and share some of the voice actors.
Both anime are funny.
There are many references to MoHS in Lucky Star, and they even have a few similar voice actors.
Both animes are funny and the main characters have the same voice actress.
It is pretty much a prerequisite if you want to get a lot of enjoyment out of the series. Otherwise, these jokes will be lost. Watching other KyoAni titles would help, but not really necessary.
Just like another of my recommendations. These 2 differs.. But the concept might be the same, It's what you can call slice of life. And both are very random. The two anime's is also linked in a way. So if you ever feel like watching Lucky Star, I highly recommend that you watch The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya first. Since some Haruhi moments will appear in Lucky Star. Same goes for the voice actors/actresses.

Sep 18, 200723 of 24 episodes seen 202 of 268 people found this review helpful Lucky star is one of those unique Comedy anime that comes very rarely. It manages to put a comedic twist to normal everyday occurances, and many pop culutre references. The entire show is not your typical slice of life high school comedy anime, rather its show structure follows more of a western style of comedy, a sitcom to be exact. Instead of having a direct storyline, like most anime viewers are used to, it focuses more of everyday observations and Jpop culture as their source of c...omedy.
---Theres always a storyline no matter how broad it is. Many ppl say theres no story line but, there has to be a "story" of sorts or else this stuff cant be funny. If you had to put a plot to this show it would "A group of high school children trying to make it all the way through high school." With such a broad plot, the creators can do as they please. By the way, that is how most western sitcoms can list 5-10 seasons without it getting old (i.e. Simpsons, Family Guy, Cheers, etc.) Mind you thats the only connection this show has with a western sitcom.
---I have noticed many people bash the begging episodes of the show but i found them equally entertaining as the rest of them. It really depends on what the viewer does in their own daily lives is what truly makes this show funny. Somone who doesnt eat curry/rice or grilled meat sticks for dinner with their family wont understand a joke about it. But with all the jokes and references in this show you're bound to laugh out loud at all they throw at you! They've thoguht of everything for this show.
---Art and animation of the show is your typical comedy anime fair. Simple characters simple backgrounds simple static objects. But they manage to take "simple" to a whole different level. For example, the characters are only shown from the waist up for about 80% of the entire show. But the characters are drawn very simplistic and the coloring for each looks like it doesnt exeed 12 different colors for each person for the most part. But they are definitely drawn in a cute manner, if thats your thing. The simple-ness is what gives the show its charm too. The art style is so popular and easy to draw im sure you'll find spoofs for dozens of other non related characters around the internet.
---The Sound is your standard comedy sound efects from light hearted piano songs, to bing bangs and bongs, they're all there and accounted for. Music is mostly absent from the show aside from helping out certain jokes.
---You will definitely notice the lack of background music in the show but with such a powerful seiyu cast, one could understand that they didnt want to distract from the well executed voice acting. Of course most people will notice Aya Hirano and maybe even Minori Chihara. Its hard to believe that most of the main characters are voiced by relatively newcomers. Which also helps seperate Lucky Star from sounding the same as all the other school anime out there. You'll enjoy Kagami's singing voice by the way.
With the uniqe sound comes the "unique" (or not so unique) character types associated with each seiyu. Theres also ALOT more characters but you'll have to watch it to see them all ^_^ Speaking of characters you'll actually end up seeing all of them fairly regurlarly. Either supporting cast or main cast. By the end of the show, you'll get the feeling that not one person recieved more time than another. Even the extra characters get more than enough airtime to fully acknowledge them as essential parts of the anime.
---The enjoyment factor is through the roof in my opinion. The comedy aspect of this show covers so many angles and hits so many things perfectly its hard not to give a perfect score. I find it very hard for somone to hate this anime. That is, if you dont like japanese pop cultre, anime references and funny common occurences. If youre that type then why are you watching anime? ^_^
---Also, if you dont like western style sitcoms where the end of every episode will always leave the same way they started, this is definitely not for you. If youre looking for a romantic comedy or bloody action school go somewhere else. If you're willing to give up about 20 minutes of your time for pure entertainment, WATCH THIS SHOW!
If you find anything funnier pm me i'll give it a shot but for now this the funniest anime i've watched to date ^_^ read more

Jan 6, 200824 of 24 episodes seen 58 of 99 people found this review helpful After watching it for the 3rd time, i decided to edit my review. This time I actually listened to the sounds, and decided that it deserves a 10 after realising that I watched 3 episodes searching for just one piece of music. Boosting overall to 10 as well, i think that 9 is too low for Lucky Star.
Erm...So i have now re-watched it for second time...This is my first time doing something like that. Raki ☆ Suta!
Story: Most common mistake people make... is that they say Lucky Star doesn't have a story. It has! "The daily lives of 4 high school girls." Understood? Good. Can't say much here, because of the randomness of "slice of life" genre. Still, I like how the story progress, except for the first few episodes which people usually don't understand what the series is about.
9/10
Art: Yeah, I know that the art is nothing compared to KyoAni's usual productions, but is far better than them in one aspect, cuteness. Anyone who have watched the series can tell that how cute Konata is. Most of the scenes aren't really detailed, you usually see the upper parts of the characters, but that doesn't change how well cuteness goes with Miyuki's 'ultimade moe-ness', Konata's children-like personality and Tsukasa's 'little sister-ish' figure. BTW, background is detailed, proof here.
10/10
Sound: This one varies a lot, depending on how many animes you've seen. The OP is catchy, and goes with the cuteness of the anime. The different endings were a good addition to anime, but if you haven't heard the songs before, you may think that a single ending theme would be better. And for the second part of the EDs, Shiraishi Minoru does awesome job. You still may not know some of the songs sung by him, but just watching him is entertaining too. I love how KyoAni toys with their own songs. The sound effects and OST isn't really obvious, but I can say that how it goes with the flow and is "cute" really enhances the dialogues. Especially when Kona-chan is about to start saying a funny comment about Kagami, the way music stops right before it and you can guess it coming.
10/10
Characters: Probably you can't learn their personalities in just one episode, but as the time goes on, you learn more and more about their personality. Even in the second half of the anime where they introduce new characters, no character gets more screentime than another. If they do, well, KyoAni is sure to make a joke about them! They are so unique and easy to remember. OK, not really unique (Kagami as you typical tsundere and Miyuki as you typical moe) but they are unique in their own ways. No wait! According to Shiraishi, Kagami isn't tsundere! Oh well, I don't care about what he thinks. Kagami is tsundere.
9/10
Enjoyment: What can someone give this part anything besides 10 out of 10? Great jokes, mainly based Suzumiya Haruhi and everyday problems of the world and Japan. Again, if you haven't watched Haruhi yet, you won't be able to get even the half of the jokes. That said, if you have watched it, you'll probably love the jokes. Azumanga Daioh is pretty much the same as Lucky Star, both having jokes based on pure randomness. School Rumble is more romance oriented, but still on par with them. If I had to pick one of them, it'd definitely be Lucky Star.
10/10
Overall: This series is a definitely a must-see for someone who has some anime knowledge and interested in slice of life/comedy genre. Lucky Star is a win or lose situation. Either you hate it, or you love it. If you like it, it will probably certainly be one of your favourite animes. If you don't like the slice of life/comedy genre and don't have fun finding all those references, I suggest that you don't watch it. Be sure to watch Haruhi beforehand, if you are going to watch Lucky Star.

Oct 26, 200824 of 24 episodes seen 41 of 71 people found this review helpful You got bad art, a cool story, stereotypes, and otaku culture and moe, and it all collides to give a surprisingly good anime.
I can't say there was anything really unfabulous about Lucky Star. Other than if Konata was a real person, she would have no friends because she's a total jerk and is a massive geek.
It's funny, you should watch it.
