Jujutsu Kaisen author Gege Akutami and Angou Gakuen no Iroha (Cipher Academy) illustrator Yuuji Iwasaki will begin a new manga titled Modulo in the 41st issue of Weekly Shounen Jump on September 8.

Akutami will pen the short-term serialization, with Iwasaki in charge of the illustrations. Shueisha has confirmed that the 41st issue will feature a full color 54-page spread, as well as feature the series on the magazine cover.

Akutami drew Jujutsu Kaisen in Weekly Shounen Jump from March 2018 to September 2024. Shueisha published the 30th and final volume in December 2024. VIZ Media released the 27th volume in English on August 19.

NisiOisiN and Iwasaki serialized Cipher Academy in Weekly Shounen Jump between November 2022 and February 2024. Shueisha published the seventh and final volume in May 2024. VIZ Media released the seventh volume digitally on August 26.

The way this revived JJK Twitter, LOL. I'm here for it.

The plot really resembles Dan Dan Dan. Is this a coincidence? 🤔

gege isn't drawing, so it'll already look way better. but gege at the pen again is the worrying bit.

Honestly gege should quit art his health obviously can't handle it anymore he's not a bad writer I thought the first half of JJK was ok but it sounds like it would work better if he decided to be a full time writer instead of trying to do weekly art and hook him up with artists who can match his style

Always makes me wonder if what they have upcoming is going to be relating to some of their previous work sprinkled in.

Gege Akutami threatens to make a new manga.

Honestly? I’m just glad Gege’s not chained to another 300-chapter battle shonen grind. Man was clearly cooked by the end of JJK. Short run + a dedicated artist sounds way healthier. If it bangs, cool. If not, whatever. And yeah let’s not lie, Gege’s gonna drop at least one unhinged waifu, that’s just guaranteed at this point lol

@Icebreaker93 I haven't read the mangas, but just going off the shows, jjk has had much better writing than Demon Slayer so far.

I've always felt jjk has been on the better side for shounen writing especially regarding characters and power systems. Maybe the "trainwreck" part is referring to the endings which I have not seen yet.

@Catalano I love this sub-genre of agenda posts.

Anyway I'm not touching this one until a couple of months into the run at least. The fumbling of JJK was legendary, if I hadn't experienced Game of Thrones it would have been the worst fumble I've experienced from a pretty good story.

@Blue_Maroon The anime made the manga so popular like Kimetsu no Yaiba, both of the manga's are trainwreck.

Sep 2, 10:54 AM by Icebreaker93

@Catalano ik this is bait, but how was jjk so popular if he can't draw and can't write

Sep 2, 10:17 AM by Blue_Maroon

finally the editors understood that akutami can't draw, now they will see he can't write

I'm curious as to what this story will even be about. I think Gege said that he doesn't want to do another battle shōnen, so my guess is that this will be more of a mystery / psychological manga?

Anyways, I'm super hyped. Gege is a good writer when he has time to think, and I feel like having a short serialization will bring that out.

Iwasaki seems to like drawing manga with yapping characters in it, if Togashi allowed it he should collab wit him next, lmao.

@GoodBoy0069 The general concept is possible, but not completely, otherwise he could draw it himself.

Orginal character design might be handled by Gege.

Hopefully Gege will now have a more flexible schedule, given how his problems with the regime (in his words) affected his writing.

@deg Also Kaguya and Oshi no Ko. I don't know how much shorter they were supposed to be, but Aka implied that part of the problems with finishing was due to the editors begging him to write more than he planned.

Can’t even sit still thinking about the female cast Gege’s about to drop this time. All of his female case are pure doujinshi-tier material.

It's the same thing, just a case of loanword being romanised back. Modulo -> モジュロ - > Mojuro.

@ZXEAN a famous example is dragon ball manga that toriyama initially planned to end with the cell saga but it was extended https://x.com/Venixys/status/1893760603648331782
