Second Season of 'Shoushimin Series' Announced for Spring 2025
The second season will focus on two new cases from the novel series, adapting the two-part third volume Shuuki Gentei Kuri Kinton Jiken (The Autumn-Exclusive Kuri Kinton Case) and the fifth volume Touki Gentei Bonbon Chocolat Jiken (The Winter-Exclusive Chocolate Bonbons Case).
The first season covered the first two volumes—Shunki Gentei Ichigo Tart Jiken (The Spring-Exclusive Strawberry Tart Case) and Kaki Gentei Tropical Parfait Jiken (The Summer-Exclusive Tropical Parfait Case).
Voice actors Teppei Uenishi (3D Kanojo: Real Girl), Yume Miyamoto (Blue Period), and Seiichirou Yamashita (Horimiya) are joining the cast as Takahiko Urino, Tokiko Nakamaru, and Yuuto Hiya, respectively.
The television anime adapting Honobu Yonezawa's youth mystery novel began airing on the NUMAnimation programming block on TV Asahi and its 24 affiliate stations on July 7. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with subtitles worldwide, excluding East Asia.
Mamoru Kanbe (Subete ga F ni Naru) directed the anime series at Lapin Track (Undead Girl Murder Farce), with Toshiya Oono (Shadows House) in charge of the series composition. Atsushi Saitou (Black Fox) designed the characters and Takahiro Obata (Yakusoku no Neverland) composed the music.
Yonezawa began penning the novel under Tokyo Sougensha's Sougen Suiri Bunko label in December 2004, approximately three years after beginning the Koten-bu Series (Hyouka). The fourth volume shipped in January 2020, nearly 11 years after the third volume was published in two parts in February and March 2009. The fifth and latest volume went on sale on April 26. Shoushimin Series has a cumulative 1.1 million copies in print.
GFantasy irregularly serialized a manga adaptation of the first volume by Anko Manjuuya from April 2007 to December 2008. A manga adaptation of the second volume by Fua Yamasaki and OmiOmi ran in the same magazine between February 2010 and January 2011.

So strange that this gets a second season. Though if it was already planned, I guess that makes sense.
It was simply planned as two cour from the beginning.

To start things off 1 volume of x series isn't equal to 1 volume of y series or z series. The amount of content in one volume varies for differnet type of series and ofc in different medium.
@MegamiRem - I haven't read a light novel in years, so that is a great point and something I realized after posting :D . Much like a book varies in page count, a lot of these might vary as well. There might be wordier descriptions of locations or more internal monologue of characters. The adaptations being by different teams, could account for more or less material being covered as well. There are a lot of variables.
This is literally explained in the OP, season 1 adapts volumes 1-2 and season 2 will adapt 3-5.
@Ionliosite2 - Thank you for letting me know, while I usually read through the full news post, since I hadn't watched the initial season I admittedly glossed over the opening.

I'll try to give a more detailed breakdown later when I get time and if I remember to do so.

I haven't watched any shows from Summer yet (still working through Spring and older shows). But Japan tends to have different tastes than me. Happy for everyone that wanted more of this show. I didn't dislike Hyouka but was disappointed to hear it had little story left and was basically on hiatus. This show seems doomed for the same fate, as its source is at 5 volumes...curious how much they adapted in S1 and why Japan picked that show, knowing that there's only so much to adapt in the first place.
In comparison:
Shy - 26 volumes
The Elusive Samurai - 17 volumes
Cafe Terrace - 16 volumes
The Ossan Newbie Adventurer, Trained to Death by the Most Powerful Party, Became Invincible - 13 volumes
Step sister - 11 volumes
Wistoria - 10 volumes
Senpai wa Otokonoko - 10 volumes
Madougushi Dahliya wa Utsumukanai - 10 volumes (+ side story)
Alya - 9 volumes
I parry everything - 8 volumes
Too Many Losing Heroines - 7 volumes (+ short story)
Ginji Harem - 6 volumes
Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan - 6 volumes
Of course length on its own doesn't mean popular or money maker but it does show staying power which has to account for something.
Really curious how Japan determines what to give a second cour or another season. Would be interesting to see what the ratings / popular shows are in Japan for what is airing. I wonder if there's anywhere that can give that breakdown.

Imagine if KyoAni announce S2 on the 21st now! I kid, I kid. Genuinely happy to see this! Would be a lot nicer if the aforementioned does happen, though...
