@Ionliosite2 Like I said above, maybe this is their way of trying to make the character designs more moe for modern audiences. I'm more concerned about how much they'll change the characters' personalities and interactions. I wasn't a fan of how Ichiro rewrote the Devilman characters for Crybaby.

@RobertBobert The gyaru is Hikaru, Sayaka is the purple haired one. Which is itself weird, her hair wasn't purple before.

@Ionliosite2 I'm not sure if she's a gyaru or just tanned in this version (there doesn't seem to be any reason yet to think they decided to make her an immigrant like Suletta), but it seems like they decided to make her more "modern" this way.

Yeah by far my main issue with this show remains the characters not looking like themselves. Leaving aside Koji and Duke, what's up with Sayaka? At least I can tell who the others are, Sayaka looks NOTHING like her classic look, even the Infinity movie had remained close to it.

@Catalano I think it comes down to the generational difference. If at the end of the 20th century most protagonists resembled ancient Greek heroes or Hollywood action movie protagonists, now most heroes must satisfy teenage male or female power fantasy. Ichiro-san specializes in this, turning classic plots into school teen drama.

@RobertBobert I may sound harsh but it's always the case when a remake or an adaptation of what I love happens and they change something so much it becomes unwatchable for me, there is no need to make duke a skinny looking wimp, grendizer is a pure episodic war drama about aliens attacking earth and duke and his gang killing them all in the process, I want him to look strong like in the original
other cases of changes are in these
yamato remake - made mc a wimp loser
parasyte adaptation - made the mc a nerd wimp loser
devilman crybaby - made the mc a skinny loser
and now this, I just can't take it anymore LOL if we ever get a kurenai sanshiro remake, I can't even imagine how trash sanshiro will turn out, dude kills at least 3 people per episode in the original and he's badass
Ok I'll stop my rambling now

@Catalano You're talking about the Battlestar Yamato remake, right? Mecha shows from that era didn't pass me by and I really loved a few, but by adulthood I had forgotten the plot of most of them and that kept me from touching the remakes since they likely "overwrote" my memories of the old shows. It took me a while to associate Gundam with UC and not G-Witch again in my head, lol.

@RobertBobert we still never saw a trailer but the first signs are bad, duke was a strong guy in the original, with honor and grace, now he looks liek a default isekai protagonist, skinny and short. It's the yamato situation all over again when they transformed the mc from a soldier into a pussy.

@Catalano Is it really that bad? I didn't watch the original show, so it seemed like they just updated the design to modern standards. Anyway, I'm more concerned about the script because of Ichiro's love for Western-style bait and switch.

the character design is horrendous, they really wanna make mecha anime look cute and simple, this has the potential to be even worse than yamato remake. And to think that I was actually excited for a moment when it was announced. The original is a mecha masterpiece, this looks like cheap normie shit.
The director is a nobody who worked for gundam build, literally no mecha, who in his right mind would let an amateur for such a big show like Grendizer

ah yes, more anime remakes lol

but i guess in this case it helps as i don't watch anything pre-1980

I read a short greeting from the cast and staff of the show and what can I say? They're quite nice, but I can get how subtly they were promoting the idea that the show would be a reboot of the original anime and contain some "new elements", so they want both new and old viewers to think and give it a chance. Also, they only name the one character as the protagonist, but I couldn't help but notice that of the first characters announced, we only have two guys and four girls. I haven't watched the original show, so I wonder what the old fans think and what will come of it.
