No, it can't. For SURE.
Even if (big if) the plot and go just as bonkers as V6 and beyond (character assassinations and all that), at least SHAFT production values are gonna deliver a objectively superior sakuga. Also, top seiyuus, like Saori Hayami.
Worst case ever, is gonna feel like a relatively derivative spin-off AU(ish?) of the first 3 volumes. Which were the best part of the franchise by far, in so many aspects (fights, build up, twists...).
Extra bonus if Pyrrah does survives and we dont have the absolute slog that was Jaunedice (or it;s resumed to one 2-3 min scene).

This isn't looking good. It just got announced like last month, the trailer looks terrible considering just how stacked the staff is and now its releasing next season. My expectations are insanely low.
What's so terrible about the trailer exactly?

I think I stopped at the end of the season where they just got to a new school area or something, what season was that?
If you're referring to the eastern-style one built on a bunch of mountains, that was Vale at the end of Volume 4. If you mean the more futuristic arctic area, that was Atlas at the end of Volume 6.
Watching the trailer made me feel like I'm watching an anime (NOT cartoon) version of Rooster Teeth's series, and correct me if I'm wrong that you don't need to know RWBY lore to watch this one coming next season (except the character names which form RWBY of course).
Apparently the first two episodes will recap the events of the first two volumes, which were 90% just lore dumps anyway. I would imagine you don't need to know anything going in.

Surely, it can't be worse than current RWBY can it?
Why'd you think it got outsourced to the Japanese creators in the first place ...
