Light Novel 'Natsu e no Tunnel, Sayonara no Deguchi' Gets Anime Movie in Summer 2022
Publishing company Shogakukan announced an anime movie adaptation of Mei Hachimoku's Natsu e no Tunnel, Sayonara no Deguchi (The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbye) light novel on Wednesday. The movie is scheduled to open in Japan in Summer 2022.
Tomohisa Taguchi (Akudama Drive, Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World - The Animated Series) is directing the movie at animation studio CLAP (Eiga Daisuki Pompo-san, Kono Sekai no Tanoshimikata: Secret Story Film).
Synopsis
Kaoru Tono heard a rumor: The laws of space and time mean nothing to the Urashima Tunnel. If you find it, walk through and you'll find your heart's desire on the other side...in exchange for years of your own life. One night, Kaoru just so happens to find himself standing in front of a tunnel that looks suspiciously like the one the rumor describes. He finds himself thinking of Karen, the sister he lost in an accident five years ago.
To Kaoru's surprise, he's been followed by the new transfer student Anzu Hanaki, who promises to help him experiment with the mysterious tunnel—but what does she want from Kaoru in exchange? And what will he have left to give, after the tunnel's done with him? (Source: Seven Seas Entertainment, edited)
Hachimoku submitted the sci-fi mystery novel at the 13th Shogakukan Light Novel Award in 2018 and won both the Gagaga Award and Jury Special Award. Shogakukan published the light novel under the Gagaga Bunko imprint in a single volume in July 2019, featuring illustrations by Kukka (Gunjou Sanka).
Koudon began drawing a manga adaptation on the Sunday Gene-X monthly magazine and the MangaONE platform last July. The latter released the final chapter on October 15. Shogakukan will ship the fourth and final volume on Friday.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed both the light novel and manga adaptation in English this July and plans to publish the first volume of each on May 10 and July 26 next year, respectively.
Natsu e no Tunnel, Sayonara no Deguchi ranked among the top ten titles in the tankobon category in the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2020 rankings.

A fairly decent director, and CLAP have been quite good in the past, it may have a shot, though right now I can see the story being a little derivative. I'll see what it's like by the next batch of information.

Read a bit of the novel and manga, really liked it and the main couple's chemistry is pretty good. Quite excited for this
