An original television anime titled Back Arrow was announced by Aniplex on Saturday. The production company also opened an official website for the series, revealing a teaser visual (pictured above) and a 15-second commercial.

Gorou Taniguchi (Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch, Planetes, Junketsu no Maria) is directing the anime series. Screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima—known for titles such as Kill la Kill, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and most recently Promare—is in charge of the series composition and will write the script of all the episodes.

Voice actor Yuki Kaji (Nanatsu no Taizai, Donten ni Warau, Kiznaiver) narrated the commercial and will also star in the anime.

Both Taniguchi and Nakashima seem like a one-hit-wonder for me (as much as I love Kill la Kill) so this is very similar to an Urobuchi situation: it could go very good, ending up as a modern classic, or just plain mediocre, which usually ended up happening.

However that visual kei is extremely pretty, so let´s hope the synopsis is great.

Those partnerships between talented guys don't seem to bore results actually. We have had many cases like this one and they always end up delivering us a boring and just ok show. Well, even so, I hope a new hit comes out of this

I don’t know about this just yet to be honest.

Having Yuki Kaji on board is a huge plus though, will keep an eye on this for now.

@GolbeztheGreat

ye personally i enjoyed ID-0 and Revisions and maybe they did not appeal to the anime fandom just because its 3DCG anime but i dropped Active Raid though

oh shit Nakashima as the story writer this might be good but im worried about the Director since he has not made any successful anime after Code Geass lol

Well, that depends on what you consider to be success...and your personal interests.

Personally, I've liked several of those series. But I will say he hasn't been trying to make a big super popular hit since then. They've all been smaller shows with more limited premises, low profile animation studios and not a lot of budget behind them, so it's not like he's competing in the same category. In other words, he hasn't been trying to copy or replicate Code Geass (until the new movie was released, which one could argue does qualify as successful).

Now, this time...if the budget is good, which is a key factor that people usually overlook, then there could be a big difference. Given that Aniplex ran this commercial in the Fate timeslot, I imagine they have grand plans for this. The animation studio could be more high profile and Back Arrow could be a more ambitious title. All those factors matter, not just the staff.

In any event, I am interested in this project and hopefully we'll get more information in early 2020.

Wouldn't have minded if this were an adaptation of R. L. Stevenson's Black Arrow. That story's crazy good and would lend itself well to anime.

that would be interesting, non-Japanese properties do sometimes get adapted, so it wouldn't of been too outside the realm of possibility.

interesting pair, but interesting I mean weird. I hope it's good. I mean, I didn't like Promare, at all, but my issues can be summed up feeling like they crammed a series into a movie, and that if it were a 12 episode series it would've been better. like the poster their going with, I have......hopes for this one.

This is like completely irrelevant.
To you sure. Since I misread the title initially as Black Arrow, not so much.
