These authors don't even stand a chance until OP is over. It's pretty crazy.
Well when you're 87 volumes deep you almost have to keep buying the damn thing. Get a separate book shelf just for One Piece.
If people really didn't like it, they'd stop buying it. Not a lot of people would continue on, especially considering OP will probably go on for another 30 volumes or so. Plus, if money is tight, people wouldn't buy more of something they don't like/feel like collecting any more of. They'd probably sell all of it.

Is there a website that says the Total a Franchise has sold? Like with Toys, Manga, book, clothes everything combined for something like Dragon Ball, One Piece etc.
IIRC, this guy ever shared it data, forgot where it was... @bigivelfhq
it was on toriko discussion in big 3 thread...
so there is!

not really what you're looking for but still interesting:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_highest-grossing_media_franchises
take this with a grain of salt since it's wikipedia, a lot of sources are some years old and incomplete and it's pretty difficult to have an accurate number when talking about billions of dollars
Thank you, I think its easier to track if you can find the results for just 1 part of the globe (Japan), Instead of finding sites that try to have the results for all the franchises worldwide.
@Ghouleto Ill check that one thanks

Yeah, was mediocre salewise until the anime got it more exposure.
Have you read the LN?
Is it any good or just okay to good.
Maybe the adaptation just great but not the Source material?
Considering that every book after the anime ended (vol 9+) sold exponentially better than the ones came in the same timeframe (vol 1-8) it points less of to an issue of quality and more the fact it was just one of series not many people looked at relative compared to others on the market before then. It did get some mixed reviews on the earlier volumes (mainly the start of Arc 3 for being too dark among other things) which didn't help, but as @kuuderes_shadow posted awhile back in some older threads that during the anime readers were buying backlogs of the earlier books in doves. The series is quite well regarded now once more people got into in the source.
As for personal as someone who has read vol 1-5 released by YenPress, it's been very good. Superior to the anime in a lot of areas, but it by no means the adaptation was bad. But LN gives you and even greater sense of how dense the story is and how hard White Fox worked to pack in what they could in a reasonable manner.
