You know anime community is shit when most comments complain about the release date and dont point out the fact that we will have a new movie trilogy based on the work of one of the greatest mangakas ever

This is not really giving me high hopes, especially with.

1. Gainax has not made anything remotely nice recently
2. The fact that the script writer or series composition is the same guy that wrote Garo: Guren no Tsuki (that is the WORST MAPPA show imo and the WORST Garo I've seen and the WORST anime of the same year that aired) doesn't give me a lot of good signs.

There's okay staff though or some decent people here at least. I think before long Gainax would probably die but I don't really know.

The bottom of the barrel has already been established with the CG Captain Harlock film. Even if the script is bad, as long as it's coherent it'll be an improvement.

I thought I was the only guy who didn't like Harlock's CGI movie.
That was the worse Harlock related script ever.

It looks to be a set trilogy.

Are you fucking serious right now????????? XD
This is the most hilariously stupid announcement I have ever seen.

Hey Gainax, why stop only here? Why dont you also announce projects from 2030? 2040?

If you follow the dates - they probably just started production on the 2020 release, which will be 3 years from now. 3 years from that is the next, and so on. But I agree with your sentiment in part - I'd imagine if the first iteration bombs they would axe possibly the third (second would have started to go into production before the brakes could be applied) -and it will turn into a 2 film deal.

For anime trying to predict a movie 9 years out is dumb.

looks interesting is this related to Captain Harlock?

More Matsumoto after Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2202 is always welcome.

Shit 9 years for Maetel. At least Emeraldas seems likely.

I wonder if Gainax would still be in business in 2026.

seems a little early to announce a movie trilogy 3 years before the first movie comes out

As a Leiji Matsumoto fan, I find this to be awesome news.

Harlock and Maetel are still popular, but Emeraldas the Pirate Queen coming back is awesome!
