Extremely promising cast. Hope Gainax can properly fund this project though.

I hope I will still be living by 2026 lol

Are you fucking serious right now????????? XD
This is the most hilariously stupid announcement I have ever seen.

Hey Gainax, why stop only here? Why dont you also announce projects from 2030? 2040?

No. The real question is: would Eva 3.0+1.0 be released yet in in 9..?

You know anime community is shit when most comments complain about the release date and dont point out the fact that we will have a new movie trilogy based on the work of one of the greatest mangakas ever

Well, if it takes them 3 years for each movie, then they must put all their efforts in those 3 years

High expectations

Exactly, plus it's not exactly uncommon for something to be announced this far in advance. The movie Avatar has 4 sequels planned with the latest of them scheduled for 2025, so idk what the problem is here.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

Huh? This and that Honneamise sequel thing coming out far from now. Is this just Gainax bluffing for funds?

2026? Anime may not survive 2020 as we know it.

No wonder they waited to be in France to announce it and expected to find investors there. ^^

I guess using a brand was the best option they could think about to gather money. At least, this will be a better way to "relaunch" Harlock in those days than the 3DCGI blockbuster from TOEI.

I really hope Sadamoto will stay on charadesign until the end! Will the designs be more Leiji Matsumoto-like than the Yamato recent OAVs? I hope so too.

Character Design: Yoshiyuki Sakamoto (Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo)
Director: Hiroyuki Yamaga (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann episode director)

Was there no better noticeable title to put for those names? (especially for Yamaga)

You forgot that Yamaga started to work on a Gunbuster script too. (because using a well known name a successful propertie was a good way to get attention and money, as he said)
About the funds: he already stated that getting money for Uru would be hard and that's why Gunbuster (or now this trilogy) would be a good idea before. Also, it was announced a few days ago by a french website that Gaianx and the company producing the new project (those Harlock/999 movies) would be seeking investors through the announcement.

edit @rvbrick Exactly. The two Harlock TV shows were multi re-broadcasted and are still famous and well-remembered among people today. The 3DCGI movie, for example, was highly expected.
About money, well... this time, they have a producer behind them

As a Leiji Matsumoto fan, I find this to be awesome news.

Harlock and Maetel are still popular, but Emeraldas the Pirate Queen coming back is awesome!

This is not really giving me high hopes, especially with.

1. Gainax has not made anything remotely nice recently
2. The fact that the script writer or series composition is the same guy that wrote Garo: Guren no Tsuki (that is the WORST MAPPA show imo and the WORST Garo I've seen and the WORST anime of the same year that aired) doesn't give me a lot of good signs.

There's okay staff though or some decent people here at least. I think before long Gainax would probably die but I don't really know.

If you follow the dates - they probably just started production on the 2020 release, which will be 3 years from now. 3 years from that is the next, and so on. But I agree with your sentiment in part - I'd imagine if the first iteration bombs they would axe possibly the third (second would have started to go into production before the brakes could be applied) -and it will turn into a 2 film deal.

For anime trying to predict a movie 9 years out is dumb.

The bottom of the barrel has already been established with the CG Captain Harlock film. Even if the script is bad, as long as it's coherent it'll be an improvement.

I thought I was the only guy who didn't like Harlock's CGI movie.
That was the worse Harlock related script ever.
