Light Novel 'Ookami to Koushinryou' Gets Sequel
Ookami to Koushinryou began publishing under the Dengeki Bunko label in February 2006, and it ended in July 2011 with 17 volumes. It was ranked first on the "Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!" list in 2007. It also received a manga adaptation drawn by Hasekura and Keito Koume. The manga began serialization in Dengeki Maoh and is currently on-going.
The novel was adapted into a TV anime by Imagin in Winter 2008. It received a second season by Brain's Base in Summer 2009. FUNimation Entertainment licensed both seasons for North American release.
Yen Press licensed the series and released the first novel in December 2009. Volume 17 is set to be released on April 19, 2016.

By all means it had great sales, volumes sold anywhere between 70 and 50k. Volume 17 has been fantranslated since 2012 or something.
Sales of what? The actual anime sold 9k for season 1 and 5k for season 2. There was a re-release where they produced a bluray version for both seasons that generated another 9k sales in total for both seasons. Not bad sales but not fantastic.
I'm not sure what sort of bump there was for the light novels but we managed to get 17 volumes which is pretty good really.

You don't milk something that didn't have great sales to begin with. Especially not with just releasing a few side stories as a thanks for the fan and a celebration for the 10th anniversary.

I'm actually reading the vol 10 of the LN, but with this news.. I'm confused about what to expect to find at the end of the vol 17
The ending is super, SUPER AWESOME romance wise
I am beyond exicted for this and there is a very good chance Yen Press will pick it up which make's me even more excited.
Will be adding this to my collection (I mean Spice and Wolf Shelf) the first chance I get. BEST NEWS EVER (IT"S UP THERE)

There was that small story included with the spice & wolf artbook that was also happening after the end of volume 17 so that won't be the first short story we'll get.
So at worst no new volume,at best probably one volume, similar to the "side colours" volume 1,2,3 and the volume 17.
It's just a nice way to thanks the fans for the 10th year anniversary rather than a commercial milking or anything. Rather than really continuing a story that already ended, we may see how those characters are doing in their life after this, similar to volume 17 content. Which is nice in itself.
Besides, I kind of want to see

Too bad it's just light novel for now. But I have a good feeling we may be getting another season. At the very least, I think this news gives more confidence for season 3.
I doubt it. Brain base decided to skip completely one volume, which introduced a character that will be important at one point in the story. Even if they do a s3, this will have to stop before the character comes back anyway, so no proper ending even with a S3 (the only win for anime watchers only will be that it doesn't end on a cliffhanger anymore)

I don't see why they would do this. The LN ended perfectly.
How did they kill the translations? I'm actually kinda sad if this is true and you got proof since I bought all the Volumes except for the final few that I'm waiting for release.
Hes probably just regurgitating yen press hate he read somewhere. There is no problem with yen press translations.

Not have a third made many having to read the Light Novel (including myself) so I would say that the anime did it's job in promoting the LN.
I sure hope that its the same illustrator for the sequel and there isn't much change in the setting, characters or even time line. Yes....i love the series as it is in terms of its plot and story telling. So a side story is a good thing but nothing like what happened for Hidan no Aria with double A.
