$1,000 Evangelion Mobile Phone Sold Out In A Few Hours [Updated]

Mobile Phone company docomo announced that they closed the pre-ordering of the new model "SH-06A NERV", a special phone featuring "Rebuild of Evangelion: 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE". 20,000 devices were quickly sold out and the pre-ordering lasted only for a few hours.

Director Anno Hideaki and Studio Khara designed the phone and it's the same model as the ones which the characters in the anime movie carry. The price of the phone is 90,000 - 120,000 yen (approx. $950 - $1,200).

Update
In the official blog of Rebuild of Evangelion movies, one of the staff complained about people who resell the Eva mobile phones in the online auction website. The staff said those who cornered the phones and resold them to earn some money deprived the fans of the opportunities to purchase what they really want. In response to the post, criticisms against the staff arose, such as "selling limited number of devices caused the trouble in the first place." "they should have made the devices as many as the number of the pre-orders."

Czech republic, i found the most expensive iPhone 733$ with todays dollar exchange rate. So its not that much but i dont think it's gonna have so many functions.

Just curious, how much are phones in your country going for? For example, an iphone here in Sweden costs slightly above 1000$, so while this phone might be expensive, it's definatly not going for extreme amounts imo. But I'm guessing an iphone in america for example, is alot cheaper?

Yea, the eden of east phone is way more awesome, I don't know about specs but even just the look, plus its a flip AND slide phone. If they release it unlimited, I bet they'd earn more internationally lol.

not as much as you think, check out yahoo jp auctions, only going for about 1.5k, surprising seeing how this is limited and in japan

buy a "good" phone non contract and see how expensive they are, the free phone give away is like $300 full retail

Just read the update on the first post.

Seems like some of the buyers may be reselling the phones to people outside of the country.

I guess it won't be worth it due to the cost of the phones being a lot expensive. I think that the Eden of the East phone may just suffer the same problem :S

sad... they just put $20,000,000 in some asshole's pocket for no good reason.. most won't even use the phone.. they'll keep it shrink-wrapped on some shelf
