DBZ is ridiculously popular over here with the teens. You would honestly be surprised in the differences of taste between Japanese and western teens. I might make a thread about it if I can be bothered but anytime I ask teens about stuff in MAL's top 20 they have no idea what I'm talking about, Lucky Star, GitS, Haruhi, you name it, they dont watch it. Its all about Bleach, DBZ and Doraemon here.

From the DVD sales data, I don't see any effect of depression. Compared to the 2007 titles, 2008 anime are doing fairly well. See my DB for more info.
In this ranking, (I explained the same thing last month, though) CG and Macross F are the only titles whose BDs are released simultaneously with the DVD. The number of BD sales are not available to public except for that of the volume 1 of Macross F.

Yeah, the Japanese sure love their Sony.
Soul Eater is broadbast in at least 1280x720 so I guess its BD numbers are higher than the DVD ones? Too bad, IIRC, it costs a fortune to see those numbers.

I'm very happy that Soul Eater isn't performing well, since this anime is SO overrated, not even a good title in its own genre, shonen...

Btw, kuroshiroi, the depression is indeed hitting Japan, but another thing explains why the DVD sales are so low : sales of BRD are booming right now and approximately 50% of video sales are made by Blu Rays now, I even heard that more BRD are sold for CG2 and MF than DVD.

November 1st was Saturday, so the fourth week ended before the payday (25th). As a result, the number of sales appeared smaller.

In any case, it's true that the sales of Soul Eater are steadily going down.
