Ah, rollback is done so I'll repost this now.

New additions: here
Full weekly list: here

Full list is up.

Shinsekai and Ebiten didn't even rank in the full list. Most likely 1k or less total for both of them.

Dog Days' got a second week, getting to 7,586 and now the first three volumes have all sold very slightly more than their season one counterparts. Comparing season one to season two:
Vol 1: 10,304 vs 10,520
Vol 2: 8,134 vs 8,147
Vol 3: 7,565 vs 7,586
Really doesn't get much closer than that.

Also, the monthly data went up and Hyouka v5 didn't drop at all, contrary to what people were saying after its first week. It's hit 9,971 (so 10k essentially) and is the second best selling volume now, behind only Vol 4 at 10,364 but ahead of Vols 1-3. Can't wait to see if Vol 6 can hit 10k too. It's a given that real sales of Hyouka are averaging easily over 10k now, though per Oricon it's 9,877 for the first 5 volumes.

More time can also mean more time for the popularity to wane. I do not think how long the LNs are around should have that much influence for the popularity. At the end more time can mean more enthusiastic fans or fewer.

Not sure what you want to say here. If anything, there are not that many who came to SAO via the web novel as a proportion of the present SAO fans. At least it is common to find one in any SAO discussion I check in Japanese forums. As for doujin, it is the same case for all the successful anime/manga/game title. Not sure what makes SAO special in this case.

People think about these things way to hard I think trying to find specific and deep qualities that make things stand out to Japanese buyers but from everything I've ever been able to tell their is one major overriding factor that seems to dominate almost all others with very rare exception. Name brand recognition.

I'm glad Accel World is selling fairly good. Heck I hope there is a second season.

Need more Accel World :) Too bad Shin sekai isn't :( *sigh Oh well, we have to see how things go later on...

As far as light novel popularity, I think SAO has outdone Accel World in terms of sales and overall popularity as soon as it debuted. Not sure but I think it was found odd that Accel got adapted before SAO?

The 2012 LN Rankings have SAO (#1) selling 2.7 mi this yearl to AW's (#3) 1 mil. I don't remember exact numbers before the anime started, but the difference was much smaller before the anime. The gap blew wide open afterward though.

It's true AW broadcast first, but both adaptations were actually announced on the same day.

How are ratings? Maybe people just don't like it enough to buy Accel World?

Since they're both late night anime, ratings are negligible for both.

Oh yeah, forgot about that.

I think it's because the MC is a fatty. At least I've often heard people mention that as a/the reason why they didn't like the show, as ridiculous as it is. Not sure if the japanese people think the same though.

e: What about light novel popularity? (before the anime I mean). Was it on the same level as SAO? If yes, then I guess the difference is Sunrise/A-1 Pictures?

Dec 4, 2012 4:33 PM by Pullman

I can see why it would sell so much less than SAO. :/

Sometimes the boxed set has new extras so they hope you buy them all... And some super fans gladly do ;)

Yes, I agree that it is best to have the whole series but some don't work out that way. Sometimes you buy the first one and hope the boxed set is cheap so you don't buy any more individually but then they bring out a one cour boxed set for ¥50000... So you wait for the price to drop and it sells out. Oops...

@jmal

I looked few days before. As I understood it would be released with first OST but I don't remember the date (((.

Question is: how many more times can Kirito get trapped in his VR helmet with the fans still believing it and not ripping out their own eyeballs??? From the LN we know.... Sort of...
