David R. Ellis to Direct Live Action 'Kite' Remake

According to Variety, David R. Ellis ('Snakes on a Plane', 'The Final Destination') will direct the live action remake of the 1998 OVA Kite.

Anant Singh and Brian Cox of Distant Horizon will produce, along with Moisés Cosio and Alejandro Saevich of Detalle Films in Mexico.

Variety said:
The live action 'Kite' is being developed as a character-driven actioner centered on a young woman living in a failed state, post-financial collapse, where the corrupt security force profits on the trafficking of young women. When her father, a cop, is slain by someone dirty inside the force, she vows to track the murderer down with the help of her father's ex-partner.

"I am a big fan of Yasuomi Umetsu and honored to bring the amazing world of 'Kite' to the big screen," Ellis said.

The producers are now casting and production is aimed to start this January.

i still have some optimism for the film. 1) its not based on liberator 2) it has the Hnic samuel l jackson joining the cast. it cannot be worst then "Snakes on a plane" so i still might watch it. i would never consider kite in the same f'd up category as other disturbing lolicon Hentai it

Still, they should leave Kite alone. Liberator was crap crap crap crap CRAP.

I mean, that No Doubt video that was based on Kite was pretty bad (because it had Gwen Stefani in it, duh)

Also, I have the cut version . . . . .I think they only edited out the sex.

I am looking forward to the movie. Although I might wait until a uncensored directors cut comes out first before watching. I like my violent movies to not have the violence cut out.

I don't know if you've actually seen the unedited version, but I have and I can tell you that you are blowing it a little out of proportion. The only real scene with Saya having sex at a young age is dramatized to show how she was forced into a bad life at a young age. Even then, the younger Saya has a pretty adult looking body with breasts and hips. To generalize it as a "lolicon hentai" would be like calling the movie Taxi Driver child porn, granted Kite is much more graphic.

now you see, my reaction precisely reflected on why people stay away from it. as soon as "Lolicon" is mentioned, in either United States or Japan or China, they will be looked DOWN upon. so at least 90%+ of the non-lolicon people will try to avoid it. or at least not advertixze it.

basically, it's hentai, it's LOLICON hentai, it's get labeled that way, it's get avoided......

I haven't seen Kite and I don't think I would want to but if they're making a live action adaptation then I rather it be so bad it's awesome then just god awful. Snakes on a Plane was intended to be a bad movie, thats why I like it so much.

Snake on a Plane, Patriot Games, Lethal Weapon etc.. his known from those movies, but picking Kite and me looking at how much it had as a rating in MAL. I doubt it will be any good (im just speculating).

No. Kite doesn't rely on sex scenes. If you put every sex scene together its probably less than 5 minutes. Same with Mezzo Forte. You can even remove those scenes completely and still understand the plot.

Anyway I think this is going to be like Street Fighter Legend of Chun-li where everything is wrong and the title is the only thing that you can connect to the anime...

what has Hollywood destroyed? Dragon Ball... why? the DB universe has to much story for one movie and they see a movie that is only 45 minutes long and it can have some added story to it... that is why we will never see any Gundam movies too. so i say take a shot and lets see what he can do with kite.
