Music is an essential focus in both series due to its use to drive character development and plot progression.

The main character's actions in both series are so similar it's almost laughable. Beck focuses more on the music aspect where as Fuuka focuses more on romance(thus far)

Both deal with hardships in the music industry and the never ending struggle to be heard through one's originality. Beck is more about the guys' take on making a successfull rockband while Nana is about making a rock band with a female lead singer. Both show how imperfection is more beautiful than the mundane.

These two piece of manga about music are just masterpiece in the genre! Both manga are vibrating when your read them, you don't need to listen to the music to feel it: it's amazing! Beck with rock, Sakamichi no Apollon with jazz, you don't need to like those genre of music just ... listen. Moreover, both are not only about music, not at all, there are tale about Life with a big L. I apologize for the spelling errors since english is not my mother-tongue but you MUST read those two masterpiece.

Both are coming of age/rags to riches stories.
reportRecommended by Relenus
Both series are about a newly formed rock band and their struggles to make it big, augmented with their personal problems, a little romance, and a bit of action.

The manga content covered by Beck's anime and the first three volumes of Ciguatera are incredibly similar in terms of both their content and tone. The two are coming of age stories where a nobody tries to become a somebody and overcome their insecurities, with the main driving force being romance. In both the leads suffer from daily bullying at school and just deal with it because, like in the land of the real, crying like a bitch doesn't help any. Ciguatera has less far less drama on the romance side and - until the final chapter - is FAR less frustrating. It also has various  read more

Both manga deal with a band striving for the top in the music world! DMC is less serious.

Both of em are music based shonen manga with great art and compelling story. While Beck focus on Modern music, Kono Oto Tomare! Focus on classical music using Koto. Both of em are amazing read

Beck is about music and Worst about fights, okay, but for the rest they're really similar. The reader gets the same feelings, both mangas have the same atmosphere. Besides, the drawing style is pretty similar. If you've enjoyed Beck, you'll like Worst; and viceversa.

Uchuu Kyoudai and Beck are similar in terms of goals and dreams, The other one is someone aiming to be an astronaut ( he gave up on his dream ) and the other one is someone who doesn't know what to do in the future ( confused in who he wanted to become. Both are talented MC's with an aura to strengthen the people behind them.
reportRecommended by Jasteraz
Both focus on a character growing throughout the series as both a person and an artist.

Each series is about friendship, youth and passion. While Wind Breaker focuses more so on the friendship around youth and sport, with a large focus on the sport itself, Beck is more about youth and passion itself.

Coming of age stories about relationships, hardships and most importantly music. While the stories themself are different, one thing stays same - even though it's just a comic you can hear the music and feel the atmosphere and energy behind it as it's portrayed in such well-executed and realistic way.

The premise for these series is nothing alike but they could be cousins: both are a little crazy coming-of-age stories with offbeat and sometimes dark humor with great comic timing, similar art style, great character designs and superb facial expressions. If you like the atmosphere of one, you'll likely enjoy the other.
reportRecommended by Trivialmadness
It's a bit similar to Beck where a band is trying to become a legend. Beck is a story of a band who's members all get a dream of becoming a part of the legendary rockstars. Shiori Experience is like a modern retelling of Beck, set in a high school where a plain teacher gets possessed by the ghost of Jimi Hendrix and has to become a legend before she turns 28.

In both mangas the characters deal with hardships in the music industry. In both stories you can appreciate more the music business and how it's not as easy or funny at its seems at the first look.

Theme- and genre-wise, these two are just different. However, they somehow give the same experience to the reader through the same plot formula of seemingly endless series of unfortunate events and unexpected twists. As a result, reader becomes skeptical whenever good things and peaceful events happen, because they can't help but think that there might just be a catch or something. There's also a resemblance to the art style for both series, since both are kinda realistic and are fully utilized to execute both light comedy and dark humor better.

Both the manga have a protagonist who is initially aimless. But he discovers a passion and from then on the story takes off. Both stories show how one has to struggle to succeed in a profession and that this struggle is what makes success so sweet. In the end, we'll be happy if we keep chasing our dreams. Also, friends can help a bunch at times! I highly recommend both beck and G Senjou Heaven's Door.

Although Buzzy deals more with the antisocial side of the main character, both titles explore the love for music and hardships of those trying to make it in the industry

I know you're thinking: "How is a sports manga similar at all to a music manga?" Well, while the subject matter differs entirely, the themes and characters are all too similar (in a good way). Both of these follow a young man with little direction in their lives; that is, until Sakuragi finds basketball and Koyuki finds music. Other similarities: artwork starts off meh, gets better as it goes on (always fun seeing that transition); the authors' (Inoue Takehiko [Slam Dunk], Harold Sakuishi [Beck]) clearly depict their passion not only for storytelling, but for the hobby which is shown; and, finally, both were adapted into well-received  read more

Both manga's have a similar feel to it, both containing a male main character, and both based on rock music. I have already completed beck and found it a GREAT manga and am currently waiting for wood stock to be updated, but I am also loving this manga so far.

Features a powerful singer and his struggle to the top

Despite their differences in protagonist age and target audience--Beck is for and about teenage boys, Ashita no Ousama adult women--both manga follow slightly dorky, down-to-earth main characters growing up and learning to follow their talents in creative fields. Both of the series show realistic ups and downs but maintain a basically optimistic tone, and both also have a nice but mostly background romance subplot.

Although Baby Steps is about sports and Beck about music, the main characters are very similar in looks and personality : They both lack ''something in their life'', they are hardworkers and try to give their best once they find what they like. Both manga have romance.
reportRecommended by Lylaaz
Both are same Story theme : music, and the protagonist is an novice in guitar, but he is the guitarist in a band. Here in Fool, there is more humour, subjects are less serious than Beck, and concerts are not too great. Personally, Beck is the best! For me, fool on the rock is a "bad" copy of Beck.
reportRecommended by Cainael
Music plays an integral aspect in these two series - particularly for the male lead. The protagonists experience coming-of-age realisations when they are introduced to the lives of musicians.

While beck on a different take on the music genre in manga, AUDITION is all about music from the backstories of the characters to the ways you get to meet them its all about music. It has intense parts and very intellectual ones and I have to say its one of the funniest mangas I know involving music. If you're a lover of music and a good detective story pick up the first manga. The story involves 4 gorgeous(of course) variously tatooed-pierced-barely clothed-sexually ambiguous Musical geniuses who are being scouted by the daughter of a old man each boy met as a child. Both mangas are by the same author. Beck is about creating music and Rin about creating manga. There are similarities between the characters and the progress of story. Yet they both keep their uniqueness. If you liked one of these, you should give the other a try as well. Both are now completed series, Rin is newer.

Days is basically like a football / soccer version of Beck. Very similar vibes. Even the characters bear similarities in looks and how they interract with the story. If you like stories where characters progress then both might be for you.

Beck and Piano no Mori are known for its music themes and strong emphasis on characterization. The main male protagonist practices music and becomes well-known for their abilities. As the story progresses, we see how much their role influences others. There's also a good emphasis on character relationships that establishes important friendship and rivalries. Both series are also known for its realism with their storytelling. Beck also has bits of romance while Piano no Mori develops strong friendship relationships that connects the past and present of certain characters. Recommended for anyone interested in a well-developed story with colorful characters and themes.

if you really like the setting of Beck and any influence band on it. than you may end up like to read this tittle so much. but with some lovey dovey cliche plot which about a guy who want to learn music just because he want to be aknowledge by the girl he like. hahahahaha but aside of that. they were many comedy some sort of it (yes, its not slice of life genre) for high school theme. its great to read these one .

Two mangas that are able to pass the feeling of music (be it rock or blues).......... without music. Highly recommended for fans of good music in general.
reportRecommended by OJudeuAteu
The art style is very similar. Also each main characters starts off as a whinny self- pitying brat and slowly becomes the best at whatever they're doing. through constant hard work they gain the recognition from many others. What i especially like about the art is that you can actually see them growing older, unlike some manga that only declare the passing of time but the characters look exactly the same.

similar humour, some characteristics are the same, the protagonists have similar personality

Both slice of life manga's, in both the main character goes into something completely different which he know's nothing about (guitar, go), both start with the main character as a kid and watch him grow (and drop out of high school).
