I honestly don't have a lot to say hence why short. Also, this is another extremely late upload relative to when I have finished reading this.
It seems everywhere you go there is that pessimistic title for you to watch or read in this medium. It goes with no question as to why, sometimes the dark things in life get the most of us, so obviously people can relate (I honestly have no clue why they exist tho, you are asking the wrong person). In any case, the whole theme of someone being at the bottom of the barrel in their life seems to be loved

by everyone. Stories like Oregairu and ReLife check out, there is a lot to like about them ironically because of relatability. However, sometimes this can be used in a way to boost the credibility one will enjoy something like those who found great connection to this did. "I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year." is a good example of this, sitting in the top 50 with a score of 8.79 as of this review. What do I have to say about that? Well, we'll see. (Will abbreviate this to "Sold Life 10K" lmao.)
As stated above, Sold Life 10K is a pessimistic story that slowly snowballs into one that, as all pessimistic works do, becomes a lighter story. It has all the necessities needed to make a story of its kind work, the dude who has nothing in life to be happy with, with his dead-end job but somehow meets that one girl who will change his life, "realistic" am I right? I suppose something is needed to make the story go somewhere. In any case, the story seems to flow incredibly well, only knowing how to go from start to finish in a good way. From what I recall, there is no random burst of emotion for the sake of elevating the manga to failed "feels". What it does instead is, almost, naturally gets to a level where the feels come without having to try, interlinking with the characters, who I find to be pretty good for the most part. We get significant insight, significant development, and good chemistry. I think there isn't much to complain about characters, namely Kusunoki and Miyagi. If there is one thing I would complain about, it would probably be Himeno. You see, she is like the obligatory dumb person every romance needs. Most of what she does comes more like a superficial saying to just get the development going. The only reason why I don't complain too much about her is that she doesn't exist a lot. Everything is fine otherwise.
I should talk about the whole selling life aspect too. It is an interesting concept, and it comes under the evaluation of one's own life. Does monetary value mean anything next to a person's life? Honestly, not really, you will see the way money is used in this manga and it contrasts to Kusunoki's own life, with experience, you will probably know how it will play out. But the fact of the matter is that it does well in telling you the correlation between monetary value and human life, what I feel though is that it simply tells you it rather than do anything deeper, the whole concept of it doesn't really have too much of a say, which in turn made the story simpler, which made it concurrently better, in terms of simplicity, and worse, in terms of lack of detail. If you are looking for something which has a more intricate story than meets the eyes, it's not here. Though, a straightforward story will come around back. You'd really think that there was probably some kind of incredible way the story would interconnect the whole sci-fi-esque functions with the actual story. It was some wasted potential, but I still felt that the weight was held as even basic stuff can be very soothing in how it rolls.
The art is pretty good, it is pleasing to look at though it's nothing to call distinctive. It is rather polished and detail in character design is more evident but that is about the highest it goes with any great detail. Other than that I don't see anything else to write home about. I guess the style has been coined by Taguchi, so that calls for praise in the unique category, but it differentiates only a little compared to other manga. It is still really nice to look at and some scenes are played a little bit better because of the style used here.
In any case, I enjoyed this quite a lot. A simple story that only knew how to keep me captivated. It didn't have unnecessary complexities, which is somewhat strange if I am honest, but that also leads to me not caring about plot holes or something I usually never look into in the first place unless the fundamentals are horribly wrong. It was a very nice romance and is quite wholesome with the dark elements embellishing that as there is weight to these characters, making interactions that much stronger. In other words, this is universally very enjoyable unless you don't like simple things or are cynical.
Would recommend this for sure, I have been holding this story (and this review) for a long while when I first laid eyes on it, I expected some more for sure but was welcomed with something equally as impressive. Considering how this also has a light novel as an original source, I will 100% read that, as that is also very highly acclaimed, which reminds me I need to read more light novels for sure. I must say, in some honesty, this manga is kinda overrated, but I understand why it is because I am not so blind as to see why not. I wouldn't come into this expecting the best thing in the world, though, I am no majority. Maybe you will find the best thing in the world with this one, only you will find out.
Anyways, nothing more to leave off with other than I need to stop being a lazy little shit. k bye have a beautiful time.

God. Damn.
I stumbled across a screenshot of this manga on social media, and so I did what usually do at 3 am when I find a promising manga - I binged the entire thing in one sitting. And holy shit was that an incredible read. Where do I begin? Enter Kusunoki, a man with nothing to lose, nor anything to gain in his life - and in a couple hasty decisions that no sane person would usually make, he puts a ticking time bomb on his life for a small wad of cash - but again, he's got nothing to lose, nor anything to gain, so fuck ... Ill be frank, this manga is misjudged by so many people. There is even tragedy tag on it...
SPOILERS BELOW To the point - this manga is very different from what the story looks like at the first glance. Money, time, sold lifespan all of these are symbols used by the author to tell the story. The actual story is nothing but the imagination of MC. The first 2 chapters where the author introduce us with MC and leads him to Miyagi are the introduction - a love story between the two starts there when he meets Miyagi and she gives him 300k. The money should be ... May 10, 2021
I've never written a single review ever. I've watched and read loads of stuff but i mostly refrain from doing stuff like this. I'm just not good with words i guess. So i'm gonna say this beforehand, this isn't gonna be comprehensive review about this manga, rather it's gonna be about how i came to read this and how the me who just finished this manga minutes ago is feeling. I woke up this morning from a really bad dream. Ever since waking up i just felt like dropping everything and going off somewhere without a destination. I just felt empty. Just logged into MAL

When I started reading this manga, I just thought it would be about a self deprecating man cursing his life for turning out the way it did and then miraculously learn from his mistakes and one thing afyer the other he would be getting a second chance at life
Gladly it didnt turn out that way.....Sure kusunoki was a useless bum at the start but after coming to terms with everything that happened after he sold his life I truly liked the fact that he just didnt care what others thought of him after a while and did what he wanted The chemistry between the two characters ... Greatly recommended, this made me realize life's worth, you can have a long lifespan with useless things to do, or a short but a meaningful one. Remember to make a good decision on your life when you can, you never will know when you will die, or useless.
Well here I am, writing a new review for people to read it and more texts so I can submit this post ;-; This story "Three days of Happiness" / Jumyou wo Kaitotte Moratta. Ichinen ni Tsuki, Ichimanen de. ( I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year. ) is a depression type of manga, for ... Apr 24, 2023
The question "how much is life really worth" is and will be a ubiquitous question that is uttered in many institutions, media, and circles. Even in it's most primitive state in the form of several "would you rather" or dilemma questions, the question seems to be so widely used that it's hard to really understand the weight of of the question itself.
With it being as short as 16 chapters, this manga materializes this popular question into an actual concept that follows our main character. Dealing with themes of retrospection and a person's potential, this story illustrates a wonderful depiction of how everyday people overestimate how ... Apr 15, 2018
Short but sweet manga on what value your life holds.
Advice to readers that aren't gna read the whole thing: savour the read, don't speed through it. Story: Interesting hook that lead to a story with quite the melancholic feels. Pretty solid story that had its ups and downs. Art: It wasn't anything special but I felt like the style fit the narrative quite well. Looking back, many of the frames were blank backgrounds but maybe that actually fits the story more contextually, as it is a character driven story with where they are located less important. Character: MC is probably relatable to some degree. Hard ... Apr 7, 2021
Manga is literature ~Natsuki
The superiority of quality over quantity is described not only by the story, but even at the meta level, being only 18 chapters, or 16 if not counting the extras. Clear and concise chapters, not necessarily brimming with story or art, but having a perfect balance between positive and negative space; Masterpiece would not be the best term for it, rather a flower blooming just before it wilts, throughout its short life producing an immense amount of beauty. Similarly, through its storytelling, the manga portrays the beauty of simplicity, but beyond that, human connection. In psychology, the Self Determination Theory states that ... Mar 26, 2021
Found this when going down the MAL top manga that isn't too long but shorter ones to read. Been trying to read ones that never got anime adaptation as I don't have a lot of manga on my list. And boy was I glad I found this one.
What would you do with the time you have remaining? Knowing not how much time we have left, I was glad I could've read this beautiful story that deals with such. If you love romance and just want a good sweet story with a lot of feels, I would say this is one to pick up. I ... Jan 17, 2020
Ranked 35th highest rated manga on MAL, I decided to give this a shot at only 18 chapters. Here is my review:
Story: The story is very good, I scored it an 8. Since this is such a highly rated manga, I'll focus on why I only scored it an 8 and not a 10 like most other reviewers. First, at 18 chapters, it could have been a little bit longer, and developed the relationship between the two characters a bit more, or delve into each others emotions about the people in their past. I thoroughly enjoyed how the author brought the two together, and the ... Dec 12, 2018
First i read this manga i think what's the point of making this manga have Psychological genre. Sometimes i think about writing story too and this manga has what i think about story that i wrote. This is kind of like same thought. Then i was really impressed how that this story done through. But still, i feels bad for Himeno seriously.
Story : I'm just tell that the storymaking is almost same as i thought, So that was certain that make me impressed. Art : Just like some of good drawing in my opinion. ... Sep 23, 2020

Jumyou wo Kaitotte Marotta certainly isn't an easy read. At least not for me. And not because of it's many flaws, which if you'd want to be cynical, you will find it easy to criticise Jumyou wo Kaitotte Marotta with. The art for the most part isn't too great, though there are some beautiful pages, the writing at times rather clumsy, though that might be in part due to translation. But in the end, in my opinion, these arguments kinda miss the mark. What sets this manga apart is it's story. And the story most certainly is unique. And not just the premise, which, honestly, in ... Life can be really hard with you but there's always something or someone that will give you a reason to smile at the end
Story: 2020 and this masterpiece still doesn't have a movie/anime, this manga is just beautiful and heartbreaking. When you start to read it you might think "uh yes, he just wants to die okay" but the more you read it, it gets more wholesome. This is not a only a love story, is also a heart warming. Characters: The relationship between the two characters it's well written, they just met like nothing but the development comes through when they answer just ... Apr 30, 2022
*A tale of simplicity pursing the meaning of life in a dull and mundane way. 'I sold my life for 10,000 yen per year' explains the life of the main protagonist, Kusunoki, in the aim of trying to send a message to ther reader about the meaning of life? But, as the title says, is life really worth 10,000 yen per year?
* The protagonist is lost in the complicated youth age. Trying to make decisions, but ultimately failing at every aspect of his life (money, relationships, and career-success). He is someone who has already surrendered and is broken from the inside and outside with ... Jul 13, 2023
Spoiler free! A somewhat light-hearted tragedy. I originally found this because it was under recommendations for Oyasumi Pun Pun and while I do agree they are both tragedies, this is way less bleak (which is good imo). While you know MC’s days are dwindling down, it isn’t an oppressive feeling because he’s actually pretty happy all things considered. Bittersweet ending, bordering more on sweet than bitter. Made my stomach flip once or twice but got through with dry eyes.
The art is pretty simple, but I think it was effective enough to tell the story it wanted to tell. This was also a super fast read, ... Jul 3, 2019
I am going to be rather short for this one.
There comes a time where a work of art just brings this ever-swirling vortex of emotion or thoughts into being. When the last page transpired before my eyes I was simply astounded inside, not the kind of awe you get from something exhilarating or inspiring, but rather, it leaves a truth that we should all etch into our minds : Life is shorter than we think. Every second can be endowed with endless possibilities. In a span of time so short, one can achieve more than he/she can even think of, even if it would ... Jun 22, 2020
tl dr; Good recommendation from a random comment on reddit strikes again .I am so glad that I decided to search the name of this manga even though I had to search it twice cus I had a typo.
The title is all you need to know. A dude who sold of his years for money. Yeah, it sounded pretty fucked up to me, too, but I am INTO that fucked up psychological shit, so I was mentally prepared. If you are NOT into that genre, WORRY NOT. There's only a pinch of fuckedupness, if anything. I related to the main character straight from the ... Dec 29, 2018
No action, no intensity, no blood and no fanservice...but somehow this managed to get into my favourites section. I haven't really read that many manga but I have watched over 100 anime and that maybe a large number or an insignificant number depending on how much you watched but all I can say for certain is, if you enjoy slow but well paced and unique stories with loveable characters then you'll definitely enjoy this.
I don't want to go into detail about the plot and characters and whatnot because I know no one likes those long reviews and unless you have nothing to do you probably ... May 21, 2023
This is one of those kinds of manga where it'll hit the person reading it in different spots depending on where they are in life. If you're doing great, then this will manga will make you want to strive for more and live a fuller life. If you're doing miserable, this will make you think about all the 'what ifs' of tomorrow and would likely go on to base of inspiration, and can even cause mass introspection on the reader.
I strongly recommend this to anyone who's struggling in particular, as the depiction of this manga of what it's like to give up on life, and ... |
