I randomly picked up Bakemonogatari(the book itself) without knowing anything at all about it. Seriously, I didn't even knew it was a supernatural story with half-vampire protagonist. I just came across it when looking for Japanese light novels. Going into the book completely blind was one of a kind moment in my life.

Strawberry Marshmallow, Azumanga Daioh, Bakuon - it was one of 8 shows available on anime network when i found it. I loved it right away!

Aishiteruze Baby - It was uploaded by a channel on YT, not legally, but the poster uploaded another anime i was watching

Mayo Chiki, Kiss Him not me - randomly recommended to me on YOuTube
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

I've been watching anime for over 10 years, but in the last 3 or 4 years, I completely stepped away from that world. I only started watching anime daily again about six months ago, and it's all thanks to '86'. I stumbled upon it by chance, watched it, and it reignited my passion.

Two other honorable mentions from the last six months are ReLife and Call Of The Night.

Anyway, when I first started watching anime, it wasn't popular at all in my country, so every anime you found felt like a discovery and a probable gem.

Almost all titles seem as random to me looking back to even the 80s and 90s. Specifically even back in the early 2000s simply needed to catch a lot of shit to watch that wasn't available being broadcasted on TV, one would have to rent it on VHS or DVD, or simply just buy the shit at some place like Suncoast video, simply just to check out.

One Anime that comes to mind for me the early 2000s was picking up the 1st volume of "Miami Guns". That shit is sheer hilarious top tier trash (If one is into shit like this, it's a most own classic). To this day I sometimes watch that shit just for a good laugh to share with friends, in my mancave while we drink beer and shot games of pool.

Something more modern was randomly picking up "Ōoku: The Inner Chambers" on Netflix when it was streaming.

I never see (or in some of their cases, have very rarely seen) people talk about these, but I thoroughly enjoyed them. Most of them I found by randomly browsing on here.

Psychic Princess

Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts

Princess Jellyfish
(lots of princesses on this list today lol)

Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro

My Roommate is a cat

Welcome to Dr. Irabu's Office/Trapeze

Mokku of the Oak Tree/Saban's Adventures of Pinocchio
(This one is the most niche of this whole list lol, it's a dark af "children's" Pinocchio anime)

https://myanimelist.net/anime/26/Texhnolyze one of the most unique anime in all aspects. Very interesting cast of characters and world along with story. The journey from beginning to end was unforgettable and though its very confusing at the start its still worth the watch.

I first watched the new anime for this series but now ive watched the og aswell https://myanimelist.net/anime/31433/Ginga_Eiyuu_Densetsu__Die_Neue_These_-_Kaikou truly the best space anime with a grand cast of characters.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/37965/Kaze_ga_Tsuyoku_Fuiteiru i never thought an anime about running could be so beautiful.

Just two.

Pseudo Harem: I've slept on this one because I thought it was just another harem anime, until I read its description and turns out it was fun to watch an anime that teases harem trope playfully.

The Dangers in My Heart: I came across this thanks to few recommendations on YT, first few episodes were cringe to watch but it got a lot better after that.

My general way of deciding what to watch is I look at the season list and decide what I am pretty sure is going to be good, the stuff that could be good and the stuff that doesn't immediately repel me...

So I don't know that I "randomly" encounter something that turns out to be surprisingly good all that often? It's more that something in my "didn't expect much" pile exceeds my expectations... my go to example of that at the moment is https://myanimelist.net/anime/49612/Ningen_Fushin_no_Boukensha-tachi_ga_Sekai_wo_Sukuu_you_desu which has got very little to work with but does so very well with it.

mine would be Initial D and SK8

For both i never really has interest in those particular hobbies, but for initial D i recognize the games in the arcade and one day there just a eurobeat playlist in my feed. I never heard that type of music before, upon further inspection i found that this playlist all contains the song from initial D anime. Then i wasn't an anime fan yet, but my interest is developing. I decided to watch it and binge it in just two days.

For SK8 it's just one of the anime that season that i pick-up, i never skate but i think it looks cool at the time. I decided to watch it and i think it's really good

Probably, most of the anime I watched prior to 2014 - which would have been over half of my list. Prior to discovering MAL, and before knowing of the 4 seasons in which anime aired, and especially in the mid to late 2000's, I would just got on a video platform like Veoh or Dailymotion, search anime, and pick something randomly based on the thumbnail. Later, I discovered anime streaming services like Cruncyroll before going legal, or Watchanimeon, and pick up random shows based on the description. I guess I found a lot of good ones, looking at how I am still here after all those years XD

Nukitashi the Animation is a show I found randomly while it is airing and is both ironically and unironically peak fiction, I genuinely watch it for the story because it's insane in the best way possible. A pair of siblings are trapped on hentai island but one is gay and the other was bullied for having a big dick so they don't want to have sex and thus try to overthrow the government

I would say Wonder Egg Priority. Normally I do a lot of research before watching anything, but that season I was in the mood of watching a lot of stuff and its poster caught my attention. It became one of my favorite animes ever.

Yeah, I started 'Great Pretender' based on someone's recommendation, so it didn't come across to me randomly, but I eventually ended up really enjoying it. By the way, I usually ask everyone when I see someone enjoyed Great Pretender; out of habit- what's your arc order (favorite to least)?

That's a great question, since I've seen it in 2021 I think, I needed to search up the arcs to remind myself what happend when, so it may not be as accurate but as far as I remember it's this order:
1. Snow of London
2. Wizard of Far East
3. Los Angelese Connection
4. Singapore Sky

I'm curious about yours, what is your order?

Ah it's always nice to run into people who liked Great Pretender! It seems a little niche, but I really did love it and all the characters in it. I wanted another season for so long, but Razbliuto showed up at a terrible time for me and I still have to get around to watching it.

Great Pretender would've also been my choice for this thread, I rarely stumble across anime accidentally like that.

Really happy that Great Pretender is loved. Even tho it's a bit niche like you said, I feel like not many people talk about it even if they have seen it
