I have a brother, three children, and several nieces and nephews who are anime fans to varying degrees, and with whom we have conversations from time to time. But the vast majority of my anime conversations are online.

I have a few people that I talk about anime with, but I pretty much watch anime alone.
I've shown the occasional first episode of an anime to friends if my basic description of it seemed kinda interesting to them.
You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.

I wake up with coffee & anime, I go to sleep with coffee & anime.

Sorry if my sarcasm is bad, it's not my first language.

It's internet-only with me too. Although I knew of people who watched anime while I was going to school. I remember one time while I was in university, someone invited me to watch Naruto: The Last in their room.

I have a buddy who used to be my roomate for a year with whom I text about anime quite a bit and now about Genshin as I had 2.5 year break while he hasn't stopped playing it so for me everything is new x).

Outside him there is one buddy with whom I talk ocasionally about anime, right now more rarely as we have different specialties so we ain't meeting that much during/after university subjects, at previous semester there wasn't any specialties decision and he rents a room not that far away so we were walking to our hourses at the same direction so sometimes I just shared some info about seasonals as he rarely checks them out.

I dont think you should be even allowed to talk about animes if you have irl- friends because you are obviously a casual and your opinion doesnt matter.

In the beginning I guess 'kind of' as got into it myself after seeing friends into it and browsed my own shows and have seen then. These days it's a case of sure I have a online friend to talk about it with but otherwise I'm pretty much a only engage in the medium myself type really IRL. So myself and online (Discord, YT or MAL).

Otherwise always been a gamer going deep and gone deeper with it, anime (manga, visual novels also) and EDM music the past few years 2014+ so always a researcher, aiming for veteran then casual with these mediums.

Other than that your JRPG/look over at anime type conversations. Or walking into a book store you get that your looking at the manga, at the counter after picking something out and some bit of talking about what I'm buying but that's about it their not familiar with it so I don't bother while one seemed to be open to more notable stuff most in the store (notable manga or notable anime seasonal) seem pretty normal.

If you waste your time with irl-friends instead of watching anime your opinion is meaningless.

Nope. I’m completely in the closet about anime. If people knew I watched anime, it would clash quite a bit with the type of person I’m perceived as - the workaholic who has a million things their working on at once who has zero knowledge of pop culture

Many of my friends watch anime but most of them only watch anime that are very popular. If we talk about the ones who are really fans then I have three of them, two of them were already anime fans before me and one became an anime fan because of me.

Even though they all like different genres from me, I still often talk about anime and manga with them until now, and we still like to give each other recommendations, or ask each other "what anime are you watching this season?"

I'm grateful for that because I'm the type who likes to talk about what I like with others, so it really makes me happy when I have friends who share the same hobbies. ;D

As for watching it would be my mom, actually. I have a friend who like/watches anime but me and him often disagree about most things as well as just don't have the same interest in shows as well.

But the nightmare between both of these people is that my mom barely has anything to say/react to when or after watching an anime. Usually, it's always a reserved/softly spoken "eh, I didn't think it was that great. but Whatever" or "I liked it"

And my friend will talk more, but we generally don't have that long of conversations about anime.

I don't want any real life Friends.. They always Gaslights You, they Don't Respect Your Boundaries, they Never Reach Out To You, they don't Respect Your Time, they're Only Your Friend When It's Convenient for them, when it Benefits them, When They Need Something, they Violate Your Trust, Invalidate Your Feelings... Friends these days and age are toxic, poisonous, monsters...

I Don't need any real life friends and. I'm so glad I don't and I get to do everything I want, I've the freedom to do anything I want to.. Like watching anime for 18 hours...

To be fair, they are not of the profession and just the usual girls of the region.
The majority come from upstanding families and are over-achievers both academically and professionally, but also like to vent on their downtime, which is where I come in.

But it is understandable that people would assume otherwise from the explanation.
Unfortunately, that is my mistake as I did not think explaining their normal routines was necessary ...

It wasn't a mistake... I have been there and done that.. So I understood what you meant. I too used to belong to the high society..
but I realized what I explained in my earlier post ..
I have turned my back on these scumbags...

Even here on MAL, you still have to jump through hoops, to get someone to chat with. Even the so called friends on this website, aren't really all that eager to talk about anime. At least I haven't met anyone like that. Maybe I'm to blame, don't know what I did, if knew I'd try to improve.

I have two friends who are into anime and manga. However we did not talk much about it, since both of them have other interests as well.

Sameer is more into tech, video games and philosophy, so we mostly do this.

Tsukasa is more into travel, booze and fashion. He likes shogi and traditional Japanese stuff. The kind of guy who would vote for Initiatives from Osaka party.

Nowadays the only person irl who I talked to about anime are just my brother who got me into anime in the first place. Granted our tastes are different but we're still willing to listen to each other about the things we like and I think that's pretty nice.

It just isn't enough, I wanna cry. I'm telling you I'm gonna pay for that overpriced ticket, go to an anime event and f***ing chat with someone. Who knows, I might even be able to befriend somebody. Just the thought of approaching someone is terrifying, how desperate and lonely am I for f**k's sake.

hmm there is a lot of the time that people go like: "so it's a cartoon ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ why are you watching cartoons you are not young at all...."
and am like.... anime has sadist killers, blood all over the place, and i can keep going.... (if you say something about pedophilia in anime, they might say: this person watches pedophile stuff, what is wrong with them???) (or you bring up hentai: "so that's why you watch these <anime>" or "this man watches cartoon porn๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚"
now i will talk about western animation (these are my opinions not other people's that will judge you for cartoons)
also about a cartoon... RICK AND MORTY IS FOR KIDS????
and what if something is for kids?? if it's something that you love and enjoy who cares about what age it's intended to,
still to this day i watch SpongeBob all the time, like i couldn't care less

aww that’s so sweet even just from time to time I’d love to have family who watched and chatted about anime

I recently got my parents to watch into the spider-verse which was maybe a step towards one day enjoying anime as my mom thinks anything animated is for children but she loved that movie so who knows

also I gave my brother in law my Crunchyroll log in so I’m hoping he gets back into anime as he used to watch it before he joined the family lol

sometimes I’ve noticed older generations don’t have the tendency to have big reactions to things even when they really enjoy them

your mom taking time to watch anime with you is actually so wholesome and I’m sure the time y’all spend together doing so makes her happy

I know it can be aggravating sometimes tho, I’ve been watching last of us with my parents and when something crazy happens the episode ends and they’re like well I’ll look forward to next week and that’s it lol

or my nana meets me out for a movie cuz she loves the movies but when it’s done she just says thanks for meeting me bye and I’m like wait what did you think about the movie haha
