People who rate animes, what are reason(s) why you DON'T rate an anime that you've completed?

For me, it mostly has to do with feeling like an anime doesn't deserve as low as a rating as it should but also not a higher rating than that, so that results in me not giving it a score in the end. For example, there are series that I think leaned towards a 6 but there were aspects to it that makes it more than a 6 to me but it's not exactly a 7 (and this is something that tends to happen). Maybe if this site had a decimal system, there'd be more series that I've rated.

Other reasons would be that I do like a series but how I feel about it exists outside of whatever arbitrary number I can rate it. Or I don't have a strong enough opinion about the anime so I just leave it with a blank score.

I think I have only left one anime unrated, and it was because I had too many conflicting feelings about it. There was a massive values dissonance for me

I've only done that for anime that I watched before joining MAL that I had a hard time figuring out a score for.

I don't think I ever left something without rating it, in the end is pretty easy and I have in my mind the exact measurements to categorize each anime and manga, and as more as you watch and read, the easier it gets since you can also compare every little thing and establish a proper ranking.

I generally do it when I don't know what to put it as and I rate it when I've assessed my thoughts or just leave it at that.

There's no completed anime I don't rate, I even rate dropped ones because rating cartoons is just as easily as breathing :)

I usually don’t rate recaps. It’s kinda hard to do and it feels unnecessary :/ Otherwise, I rate everything after I’ve completed the final episode.

I enjoy rating what I have watched and completed, but if it is something I dropped, I don't rate it just because I never finished watching the series.

I've never not rated an anime I've completed.

One reason I might, however, is because the version I watched was too heavily altered from the original, to the point that I don't trust it as an accurate representation of the producers' original intent. Come to think of it, there is one movie I saw many years ago that this applies to, but in that case I simply never added it to my MAL list, as it's a kid's movie that I have no particular desire to track down the original version and watch it.

I usually rate everything I watch but I end up removing some of my ratings because my tastes might've changed over time and I don't remember much of those shows, so I can't rate them properly

I didn't rate anime I watched too many years before joining MAL, like Dragon Ball and Digimon.

I'm also considering removing the scores of anime that I used to love until I ended up dropping the rewatch out of boredom: I firmly believe that the most recent opinion is the only one that matters, but after lowering their scores I might have put them on the same level as anime that would be even less enjoyable on a rewatch and I'd never watch again.

Oh yeah, I forgot about this reason, but same. There are animes I've seen too long ago that I don't know how I'd rate them now so I don't put in a score.

It just means one watch is not enough to determine how I feel about it. If I have something both completed or unrated I need to time to think on it and possibly rewatches in order to score it fairly.

If I can't remember the anime well, because it has been too long since I watched it ... well, I rate them by the vibes that I got from it, I guess? And If I'm wrong about it, I'm wrong about it. So what. I have so many entries by now (lot of ovas, music videos etc too), I don't care anymore to set the ratings in a right ratio or anything.

i dont rate OVAs or specials usually, usually I just rate the show as a whole with my opinions on the OVA included. Same goes for non-canon movies mostly/recap episodes/movies. Even my lonely 1 dropped series has a rating since it isn't that hard to think how much I enjoyed a show

I rate everything I watch. There's some manga I've left unrated, though. Most of them were just one shots I don't feel like I had enough substance to form a proper opinion about. One that I didn't rate was Henshin, since I don't know what it actually deserves. It feels well written, but it's also depressing and it being hentai prevents me from seeing it as a mature piece of art that's hand crafted to be depressing and instead view it more like something that's depressing because people find it arousing to see someone torn down by society like that, even if I know that isn't the reason. Giving it a high score, a low score, or a mid range score all feel wrong for the experience I had with it. I'm also not even sure if I enjoyed it.

I've never not rated an anime after completing it. If this ever happens, the simple reason would be that I simply forgot to give it a rating.

The only reason I can really think of is that I can’t really remember the show which makes it hard to rate it properly.

Short episodes that are < 10 minutes a piece and the entire entry is < 66 minutes. Exception is if there is a direct sequel with multiple episodes which would make me rate both seasons even if < 66 minutes individually.
An episode < 10 minutes if it's a 1 episode entry
Recaps/alternative version in form of movies or whatever that is made after the main season series < 60 minutes
Entries that are part of the franchise, regardless if it's a "sequel" or canon or whatever to the story, if it's < 10 minutes but the entire franchise is > 66, those short entries won't get rated

(I probably should have done this earlier, but I'm beginning to think that I should not rate anything that has yet to be subbed)

i couldn't understand how to rate EVA after i finished it. i was extremely confused as to should i rate it like 7 or 10. after thinking for a day or two i came to the conclusion that i love this enough to rate it a 10 and then rated it 10 finally. i enjoyed the anime a lot but i also hated it for a few reasons like so many things were left unanswered and stuff but i though a movie is still left so i let that pass.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

The only things I don't rate when I've completed them are specials, OVAs, ONAs, etc. I don't think I've not rated a show that's above 7 eps before. But I do agree, I would also like them to add at least a .5 system.

I am familiar with the feeling, but have made the decision, to not let it have to much influence over my enjoyment of the medium.

If I come across an anime that leaves me feeling incompressible, conflicted and just plain complicated. I recall whether the content I experienced leaned more towards making me feel either positive or negative and rate it based on that.
I'm not shy about giving a show like that a 1/10. But am shy and apprehensive about giving such a show a 10/10. Usually if it's a more positive experience I would give it an 8/10. But as I mentioned, if it's leaning towards a more negative experience, I'm not shy about handling out 1/10 ratings, like candy on halloween.

And me too. There's stuff that I watch that I don't completely understand so I'm fine with not giving it a score. Not being understandable is not necessarily a negative thing.

I've never purposely left anything without a rating, so if I did it would either be a mistake or something I haven't finished watching yet.

Only for older anime that I watched years ago, and am building this list (until joining here I had never once tried to 'list' everything I've watched) I can't even recall the titles of most of them and had to hunt through past seasons to pick out ones I sort of remember watching. Obviously if I can't remember the show well, it's not honest for me to rate it so I don't.

I don't rate things typically, even on discogs.com... although on imdb I have rated my personnal favorites so only 10's on there.
