Another comical thing is when they explain the nen yet the writer doesn't care about it later and invents lasers and aura becomes infinite whereas in the beginning it was limited. People also tend to pick things like Oregairu, Rental Girlfriends or Hyouka, but my personal take would be Oregairu Kan, with an urge to vomit at every attempt of being emotional and moody, due to those ponderously simulated serviceable highlights and soulless voice acting performances, as the closing adaptation of an overwrought and underwritten story. Then there is something call Arifureta and I awarded the franchise the only E-: An organically conceived masterpiece that repays repeated watching with a sense of horror in the face of the void, impossible to be marred in a watchable cut. |

| One is obviously Rent a Girlfriend and the other is Love Chuunibyo & Other Delusions. Those two make cringe their central plot point, but they target the audence with it in a different way. RaG is deliberately(god I hope so) made cringey in the most literal sense. You feel second hand embarasement to the point you want to hurt yourself. Chuunibyo is about kids with personal disorder that makes them act cringey and them living their slice of life with that disorder, trying to grow out of it. It is by default about cringe, but in a moe kawai yet still quite respectful way. It takes more pitty of their characters, where RaG is almost sadistical. Also I think almost all anime is cringe to the point. It's just cultural. Something trivial for a Japanese is utterly cringe for somebody else. And vice versa. I bet there is a show that tried to be cringey to japanese, but to the westerners its just wierd how everybody is upset with this outgoing extrover nice guy protag .D |
