TOHO animation launched an official website for a new anime project for Yasuhiro Nightow's Trigun manga on Friday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured). The new anime, Trigun Stampede, is being produced by CG animation studio Orange for a 2023 debut.

This year's Anime Expo convention will announce more information for the anime on July 2. Original creator Yasuhiro Nightow, designer Kouji Tajima, Orange producers Kiyotaka Waki and Yoshihiro Watanabe, and Toho producer Katsuhiro Takei will speak at the talk show event.

Nightow originally published a Trigun one-shot in Monthly Shounen Captain in February 1995. The action adventure manga began regular serialization in April that year, but went on hiatus in January 1997 due to the magazine's discontinuation. Tokuma Shoten released the manga in three volumes between April 1996 and January 1999. Shounen Gahousha later republished it in two volumes in June 2000.

Nightow resumed the original manga under the new title Trigun Maximum in Young King OURs in October 1997. After a ten-year run, the manga ended in March 2007. Shounen Gahousha released the manga in 14 volumes between May 1998 and February 2008 and later in seven volumes from February and September in 2010.

Madhouse adapted the manga into a 26-episode television anime that aired from April to September 1998. The Trigun: Badlands Rumble side story movie premiered in April 2010.

Pioneer Entertainment (later Geneon Entertainment USA) originally licensed the television anime in North America and released it on eighth DVD volumes from March 2000 to May 2001. Funimation reacquired the series in 2010 and released it on a single DVD volume in October that year. The company also licensed the side story movie and shipped it on home video in September 2011.

Dark Horse Comics licensed the manga in English in June 2003 and released it in two volumes in October 2003 and January 2004, and in an omnibus volume in October 2013. The publisher also released Trigun Maximum between May 2004 and April 2009 and in five omnibus volumes from December 2012 to November 2014.

Trigun Maximum won the Seiun Award for the Best Comic at the 48th Japan Science Fiction Convention in 2009.

Synopsis
Vash the Stampede is the man with a $$60,000,000,000 bounty on his head. The reason: he's a merciless villain who lays waste to all those that oppose him and flattens entire cities for fun, garnering him the title "The Humanoid Typhoon." He leaves a trail of death and destruction wherever he goes, and anyone can count themselves dead if they so much as make eye contact—or so the rumors say. In actuality, Vash is a huge softie who claims to have never taken a life and avoids violence at all costs.

With his crazy doughnut obsession and buffoonish attitude in tow, Vash traverses the wasteland of the planet Gunsmoke, all the while followed by two insurance agents, Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, who attempt to minimize his impact on the public. But soon, their misadventures evolve into life-or-death situations as a group of legendary assassins are summoned to bring about suffering to the trio. Vash's agonizing past will be unraveled and his morality and principles pushed to the breaking point. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

So this is going to be canon to the manga?

Edit: oh there's the term "original", so it's going to be filler or non filler idk

No way in hell it's gonna be Berserk 2016 lmao. It's studio Orange, it's easily the best studio when it comes to CG in Japan... unless you hated the look of their previous anime (Beastars and Houseki no Kuni) in that case, well... tough luck buddy.

Well I'm hyped! It will be interesting to see what direction Studio Orange will take the action pieces in. Hopefully it's similar in quality to Houseki no Kuni.

I hate CGI anime, I hate it even when it's good. I've been praying for half my life for there to be a Trimax anime, and it ended up being what I hated in modern anime the most.

I don't even know if it's going to be a Trimax anime because Vash is all blonde.

Truly a monkey's paw wish for me. :'<

People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Orange studio is best for the business when it comes to full 3d adaptation and importantly they are using the best staffs for this project so it’s exciting I’m expecting something which will surpass one of the best 3d adaptation houseki no kuni .

P.S Some people bitching about cgi have zero knowledge that 2d animation also have its drawbacks and cgi fills those drawback’s .

Next month I was planning to watch it again and I'm happy it's going to have a remake, but... Orange Studio, really? Why do it in CGI? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the style (I liked Beastars) and all the work behind it, but why Trigun? I don't think it fits the style of the story... I don't know, I don't like it. I'm not conviced.

Haven't seen studio orange's works, are they really good with CG? The best CG i've seen so far is from polygon pictures; knights of sidonia - love woven in the stars(i'm still an amateur).

Great! But 3D ruins everything. Why they simply can't draw it like Madhouse did earlier in their adaptation?

Being the best CG Studio really doesn't mean much when the best CG is still worse than average 2D animation. There are some things that CG is good at, like animating non-human characters (Beastars), but other than that it's just inferior.
A shame we couldn't get something good for Trigun.

Oookay, so its a CGI adaptation .. OK, everyone back to what we were doing, stop the hype.

Are they like fucking serious. Jesus. You see CGI in anime is like NFTs, there is simply this deranged group of creators and consumers who despite the whole world telling them, thinks its the greatest idea in the world.

On one hand studio Orange is damn great with CGI (Houseki no Kuni season 2 when you bastards ;_;), but I'm also not sure how Trigun will mesh with CGI since the original Trigun had that iconic animation style.

All in all it will probably be very divisive when it comes out no matter how good it is since some people just don't like CGI. Can't wait to see some previews.

Trigun is in my Top 25 fav anime (and one of my first anime too), so I am absolutely excited for this. Shame it's going to be done in CG though. Would've preferred it to have stayed with Madhouse and be 2D. Anyway, I'm expecting either a complete adaptation of the Trigun Maximum manga, which was only partially adapted in the original Trigun anime, or a remake.

Orange interpreted this as the culmination of their efforts and years of experience. They said this much on their socials—they have been attempting to master accuracy of human expressions. While it would probably be different from the original, I am optimistic they will give us something worth the watch. Who knows maybe even more

Trigun was one of my favorite 90s science fiction series along with Cowboy Bebop. I loved everything in the series, starting from the setting, OST, OP/ED (if they will use the original OP "H.T." orthe ED "Kaze wa Mirai ni Fuku" at some point then it would be really awesome!) down to the characters. You simply have a smile on your face every time you see Vash being all goofy and then your eyes widen when he gets serious. So I have high hopes for this series. Hope that Orange won't let us down.

I am not a fan CG either but Orange is at least a reputable studio and it should be smooth enough once I interpolate to 48fps with SVP.

I never got about CG why it's often in single digit fps, that shit ruins it a lot and for me it's unwatchable without interpolation. lol

Was super excited when I saw this in my notifications, then I saw that it will be cg..... I will off myself bruh.
3D animation isn't inherently bad but it will never in my honest opinion ever look as good as traditional or even digital 2D animation. I'm kinda bummed out rn...

Imagine a world where we in 2023 got to see Trigun get a new adaptation with awesome good looking modern 2D animation, too good to be true I guess. I at the very least hope that Imahori will return for the soundtrack, that might redeem my disappointment a little bit.
