Before you post, please at least read this opening statement! Now you may be thinking... "hey OP, I thought you prefer making original and really niche threads and not repetitive popular topics." And if you know me well enough on these forums to even think that, then, well, you're right. I do prefer making those types of threads. I am well aware that threads about "which manga do you want to get an anime adaptation" are made all the time on the Anime Discussion board, and that I could have just as easily bumped any of the hundreds of that type of thread instead. But I made this thread a more specific variant of that topic, so don't worry about me breaking out of character. Because most of you forum users seem to not bother with actually reading first thread OP posts as evidenced in this thread's results, I will just spell it out the topic for all of you—this thread is ONLY ABOUT SHOUJO MANGA. You may mention shoujo manga that already has anime adaptations that you wouldn't mind seeing, but the thread should mainly be about shoujo manga that haven't gotten adapted yet. I don't wanna see any of you somehow misunderstanding this and posting a whole bunch of random shounen, seinen, and josei manga (though that last demographic sadly has anything...). Or isekai light novels UNLESS they're shoujo. I have nothing against any of them, before you all start throwing your pitchforks at me telling me to stop being fragile, or that shoujo fans don't exist (because they obviously do exist, look what's the highest rated anime this current season rofl), or that I'm some kind of shounen hater cuz I'm not; Tsubasa is a really good manga so I dunno what you're all talking about. I just wanted more productive replies than just nothing cuz shoujo sucks I mean if you think all shoujo sucks, then why are you bothering to post in a thread about it?Your message must contain 30 characters excluding BBCode, quotes, images, and spaces But yeah seriously though, I really got nothing against every other demographic. It's just that no one really talks about the shoujo demographic on here, so I want this thread to be its time to shine. Basically... all I mainly ask is to please read my thread for once before you post. (Though that goes for every other good thread on this site too.) I'm very sorry to those who had the common sense to respect this to begin with, but it seems to me that this all needs to be said. Ya got all that? Okay? Capisce? わかりましたか? Shoujo manga, as the name implies, are manga made to aim at young girls, often specifically preteen and teenage girls. Common elements seen in this type of manga include a huge emphasis on romance, usually between a young and quirky female protagonist accompanied by bishounen-looking love interests, fairly soft-looking (or "fluffy" as some people call it) art as compared to most shounen manga, lots of flowers and sparkly screentone, the classical/traditional style of the magical girl genre, et cetera. While nowhere near as popular as its shounen counterpart, anime derived from these manga (shoujo anime) do have their own share of devoted fans (even those outside the intended demographic) who enjoy them and their particular style. Many of the most famous shoujo anime out there include Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Ouran High School Host Club, Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, Yona of the Dawn, Ao Haru Ride, Skip Beat!, NANA, The Rose of Versailles, and the current TV adapatation of Fruits Basket. It may be no secret (and possibly even stereotypical?) that a girl like me would be a huge fan of shoujo, or at least a fan of the beautiful art styles the demographic brings. The first manga I had ever read, as well as possibly being my gateway into the entirety of anime and manga as a whole in essence, was Cardcaptor Sakura; and Sailor Moon has pretty much been present in my entire life to the point where I don't even recall the exact moment when it technically became the first anime I had ever seen. These two not only subconsciously formed a love for shoujo anime/manga and the general shoujo art style, but a love for the magical girl genre as well. So I guess I myself have been a shoujo fan for my whole life. Recently, I kinda had an epiphany while I watched the now-somewhat-infamous "I'm Tired of Isekai" video. The video does talk about the oversaturation of the isekai genre, but it also talks about anime aimed at a female audience and how there's barely any shoujo and josei anime out there when compared to shounen or even seinen. Look, I don't necessarily agree with everything the uploader says, so PLEASE don't derail this thread into talking about the video. It already got its own complete thread on MAL anyway, so go post in there if that's what you want to do instead. That worry/brief disclaimer aside, the one thing that I couldn't help but notice was the observation she made about the amount of shoujo anime. Indeed, if you look at MAL's Anime Search page, you may notice the following in the Genres section (as of this typing): You don't need rocket science to realize that there are way less shoujo (and even less for josei) anime in existence. And this is all pretty crazy considering MAL's Manga Search page states that there's currently 7,763 shoujo manga and 3,437 josei manga out there. Which means that there are so many potentially-great manga in existence just being left out there, with literal thousands of them being ignored by a seemingly uninterested anime industry. Seeing these stats and the fact that there's barely any shoujo anime in most of the recent seasonal listings made me realize something—I am sad. I am sad that there are not a lot of shoujo anime out there. And I am sad that the anime industry doesn't seem to find shoujo manga profitable enough to adapt into a TV show. Which makes me even more sad because I've recently found a bunch of obscure shoujo manga that I think more people regardless of their gender should check out. And that is why I have come to you all with this brand new, freshly baked cake thread of mine. ★==============================★ That is why I made this thread to ask you all: Are there any shoujo manga that you all want to get an anime adaptation in the near future? Me personally, there are many, many, many that I want to mention. But for this thread, I will choose— Kitchen Princess is a shoujo manga made by Miyuki Kobayashi and Natsumi Ando. This series serialized through 2004 and 2008 and was collected into 10 volumes, so it's fairly old, probably too old for anyone in the anime industry to notice. But I just can't help but love this manga so much, and it seems others thought so too, because Kitchen Princess actually won a Kodansha Manga Award in 2006. This is a cooking story where the main character, Najika Kazami, is an energetic girl who likes to eat and cook food. She goes to a special, high-class academy not just for her dream of being a chef, but also in search for a boy she met during childhood. Pretty much every chapter has Najika cook an appetizing-looking dish and there are actual recipes at the end of every volume to follow, so I recommend this series to fans of Food Wars or just cooking stories in general. I admit that the story are some noticeable flaws, like how OP Najika kinda gets in terms of culinary skill and some of the story beats and character dynamics may even feel cliché, but...... I can't help it. I just adore this manga and how surprisingly emotional the whole story gets. And I'm baffled that it somehow got a frickin' light novel sequel, but never an anime adaptation—in fact, I literally remember finding "kitchen princess episode 1" or "kitchen princess anime" in the Google search suggestions while I was typing this series' name up, so it's clear that I'm not the only one who wishes for Kitchen Princess to get adapted. Maybe someday it will happen... and if it does, I really really hope it gets some talented staff and decent production values. But enough of my thoughts—what about all of you? What shoujo manga without an anime adaptation would you want to get one? Edit 12/14/21: Decided to retitle thread so that it's less wordy. :) |

So many works form Kaori Yuki but to name one its Godchild as it was Black Butler before it was even a thing and the story and art are both really great in equal measure and yeah, it would be cool to see a full moon reboot and a Kitchen Princess adaptation happen one of these days as we sometimes talk about.

Unfortunately, I haven't read many shoujo manga because I still prefer anime to manga, but I liked Kagen no Tsuki. It's a quite short and "simple" story, but it did what it had to do. As far as I know, it doesn't have an anime adaptation and I would like to see one... It would be interesting to see how the anime would deal with the supernatural and mysterious aspects.

Honestly, I would kill for a Kitchen Princess adaptation. That manga was one of the first ones I've ever read and it was really good. Even going back and rereading it now, I still love the story and the characters and find myself crying over Sora's death,

I’d love a Colette Wants to Die or Silver Diamond adaptation, supernatural/sci-fi/fantasy shoujo stories are right up my alley and, in my opinion, they’re more diverse that the typical shoujo anime on a high school setting. On another note, I also want a second season or reboot of Yona, the anime was only the tip of the iceberg.

I would absolutely love for Oresama Teacher to get an anime adaptation. It's by the same mangaka as Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. As much as I like the characters in that anime, the humor doesn't quite click with me, but man oh man Oresama Teacher manages to crack me up no matter how many times I re-read it. The comedy is stupidly hilarious and all the characters are so loveable. An anime adaptation of Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty would also be great. One of the very few romance manga that I like and has an interesting supernatural twist to it. Aaandd I must say it, a continuation/reboot of Akatsuki no Yona would be a dream come true.

I can almost 100% guarantee that number for josei manga is way lower than it actually is. MAL's manga db is weak af lmao Though to answer the question, given the shoujo anime situation and how barebones it is, it's difficult to single out a few manga that should get adaptations when there's just so many Catalano said: from what I've read, it's QQ Sweeper, it's not really a masterpiece but compared to other adventure-romances this one is really good and the main girl is actually interesting and fun. The manga was so good and popular that it got a sequel and I heard it's better than the first manga it's not really a sequel per se, it just got rebranded to a new title because of whatever "opportunities" the author doesn't understand herself either

Thank you for making this thread Fario-P! Although if you see my anime list, I have shifted to other type of shows, I still adore stuff from this demographic especially since I grew up with shoujo manga. I actually grew up with Nakayoshi specifically, since the magazine was released in my home country back then. Natsumi Ando really was one of the Nakayoshi mangaka that stood out. Zodiac P.I., Kithe Princess, Arisa were all good series. I really wanted Arisa to be animated back then, I think that series can be enjoyed by many people with its mystery theme. I'm glad her work finally got recognized and her newest work got a Live Action adaptation.. but still hoping her works can get adapted to anime as well. But I think what I'd like the most would be a SoL kids shoujo like ChocoMimi to be adapted into an anime. Or a remake of Kocchimuite! Miiko. I really like the interactions between elementary to middle school kids in shoujo manga, they feel unique from other demographic for some reason. It feels more natural to me.

I personally try not to let MAL reviews get me too down, as lots of opinions exist and many people may not agree with my own anime/manga list rankings. Though the MAL reviews for Time Stranger Kyoko are honestly right about the story being rushed within the third and last volume, I still liked it (the ending is still very nice, but I do agree that it and the overall plot could have still benefited from a longer story that develops the characters that just showed up with barely anything to them) and the art is still a joy to view as it's still classic Arina Tanemura. ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ Shirayukin said: Wow, that's interesting... I may not have actually read or owned a manga magazine issue before, but I have seen some old Japanese issues of various magazines on sale and they're pretty big, about the same size as a coffee table book, and the pages are usually printed on colored pages instead of them being black and white. It's a shame that manga magazines aren't really a thing outside of Japan anymore like it apparently (kinda) was in the 2000s, like your Nakayoshi example and how I used to see physical copies of Shonen Jump and Shojo Beat issues here in America.Fario-P said: My experience would be different as well, since every manga in my home country is significantly smaller in size compared to Japanese and English releases. For Nakayoshi, it also only uses black ink like usual manga, although there was another manga magazine (that has manga from Ciao) that uses colorful ink for the manga. It was quite a unique. It was always exciting for me to expect new volume every month. I would save up my allowance money so I could buy them lol.Oh hello, Shirayukin! You're welcome ♥ That's cool that you actually got to see the Nakayoshi for yourself, I grew up with Nakayoshi series through companies like TokyoPop licensing all these manga but sadly never got to read an actual full-on Japanese manga magazine, much less an issue of Nakayoshi. What's it like?? I remember seeing elementary schoolmates read ChocoMimi, but on the other hand, what's Kocchimuite Miiko about? Kocchimhite Miiko! is slice of life about elementary school kids with a cheerful main character. It's an episodic series, it's somewhat like ChocoMimi but with younger and larger cast. The story itself may not be special, but I really like the character interactions. They're just kids being kids. |

I would love to see Viehmannin wa Utau adapted into an anime. Miyuki Yamaguchi is a really underrated shoujo mangaka, and I love her works. I'm shocked that she's not more well known.

I think enough years passed since Shojo Kakumei Utena was adapted in 90s, and anime in general changed in a lot of ways, that I believe new adaptation in current era would be a nice way to revive that classic. Versailles no Bara as well. Technologically, anime advanced far enough to produce almost perfect adaptations.

I looooove Kitchen Princess! It was such a good read and I hope it gets adapted one day. As for me I'd like to see either Akuma to Love Song or Shinobi Life adapted into anime. They both had very good and complex storylines that really captured my attention when I read them.

I think it would be cool to see anthology series of Year 24 group's one shot works. Been years since I have read these stories, but it definitely would have variety in genres and settings. As for series idk, maybe Bride of Deimos? There was that ova but yeah it isn't good. It has it's lol moments so either way they'd go with the adaptation I'd be down for it.

Italian Candy Candy magazine that was translated here had also another side story called Faustine by Chieko Hara (Luna in Italian version). Luna story appeared when Candy manga was in its final volumes. We used to read it in early 90s and sometimes laugh at the exuberant drama and tears For plot details visit this page https://candyandterry.forumfree.it/m/?t=40191928

I accidentally refreshed the page and deleted my WIP reply. F, lol Well, as I previously said when writing my initial comment, Hatarakimono is a shoujo, I believe (not 100% positive, since finding info on it is really hard)? I'd love to see an adaptation of all the stories, if mainly just so I could experience the 3 chapters that no one bothered to translate (the ones without Ellen) I'd painstakingly translate the raws myself if I could even find those, lol Seeing best girl Ellen Aureus animated would also be pretty cool though... I wouldn't get my hopes up for an adaptation though since the manga's nearly 30 years old (although I believe Ellen herself has gone on to appear as cameos, I'd assume in some of the author's more recent works?) I'd say the best chance of it getting adapted would be from some Touhou doujin anime group, since Ellen was playable in the third game, lol IIRC, the Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan story "DNA" was released in a shoujo magazine? I'd be down for it (as well as the other not shoujo unadapted chapters) to be animated, and I'd say it's more than likely that it will be eventually. For what it's worth, DNA was one of the three Rohan stories (the others being Millionaire Village and Kushagara) that was adapted as an episode of the live action Rohan J-drama, and I really enjoyed it there, so...

The anime’s English dub can be streamed on Crunchyroll and RetroCrush. It has the worst acting I’ve ever heard in an anime. The Nakayoshi Princess Knight has an English translation, as does The Twin Knights. The Shoujo Club manga does not.
