Hey, recently I've been talking to my friend, who's really, really into Anime, and we got into point, where we were discussing, whether it's better to watch multiple animes at once, or is it better to stick with 1-2 until you either drop them or finish them. For me, personally, I prefer to watch one, max two animes at once, so I can pay full attention to a certain anime, do research around it, and all the stories just doesn't tangle up together.. I can see, why would someone watch multiple at once. If you don't feel like watching one, you can switch to one or another, also, there are many, many releases going on and catch up to all of them while watching a lot of long shonens and old releases too may be hard.

What are your opinions on this subject? Definitely let me know, thank you.

hey there! i usually do the same thing you do. i tend to just watch one anime and then maaaybe start another one (esp. if my 'main anime' is a long one). i just realized that if i start too many shows i never tend to finish them or i just finish one of them and then find a new one while ignoring the 10 others i'm also "curently watching." Therefore i normally just focus on one anime at a time. This also works because i prefer binge watching over waiting for a new episode weekly so i dont really watch airing shows until all of the episodes are out.
but thats just how i like doing things:)

I used to watch just a few anime at once because I wanted to fully enjoy an anime without being distracted by other anime, but then I realised that it's just a matter of how you organise your watching order.
There are certain relatively slow paced anime that may not require your full attention, I mean that you don't really need to binge watch them, you can watch them at a slower pace.

For instance, I watched Gintama, Yu Yu Hakusho and Slam Dunk ( all three with more than 100 episodes) at the same time and I had no problem with that, it was actually easier to watch them because of how I managed to organise my time.

One at a time for me. My attention span is pitiful to begin with, if I had multiple series going on at once I would immediately get distracted with new ones and never finish any of them.

Usually I prefer to watch one, but I can start a new one with a different genre if I get bored. I can't watch a lot at the same time, I kinda feel guilty for not paying enough attention to the story of the anime I watch.
BUT I multiple about 4-5 ongoings and don't feel guilty about it (:

I try to keep the number of shows I’m watching at once (excluding seasonals) under 3-4, because personally it’s a lot harder to binge shows when you have to keep tabs on a multitude of shows and I say that from experience, because at one point I was watching like 10 shows at the same time and it took me forever to finish them all because I would be watching an episode a day for each show

granted this is my personal perspective, there’s probably some god out there watching 20 episodes a day and still managing their personal life properly

If you spent some time with anime you’ll start watching more anime at any point, and eventually you’ll reach a point where you are watching 45 anime at the same time, like me. -_-

I try to keep it as less as possible since it ain't ez finishin' em all all but I guess its alright if you watch multiple and the same time. If you are planning to start seasonals, you'd have to start multiple ones and hopefully catch up to all of them, though its pretty hard ngl.

I don’t watch multiple anime’s at once bc it can mess up on how I feel about either anime or make me more biased torwards the other. So I rarely watch seasonals week by week unless I really want to see it, but that’s the only time I’ll be watching multiple anime’s at once, if I’m watching a anime the same time I’m watching week by week. But it doesn’t really do any damage since it’s only one episode a week

Recently for me I've been watching three anime at a time. I watch one show that's airing weekly that season, then another one that I watch with my friends all together and then another show that I watch by myself that I can go through at my own pace.

I can't imagine not watching multiple anime at once at this point but it's mostly because of seasonal anime. But if all the episodes came out the same day for all new anime and it wasn't an episode per week anymore, things would be different.

Usually I only watch one at a time, combined with some 'regular' Netflix shows. But I've now decided to participate in my first seasonal watch. So I'm watching about 5 at the same time, with one in the middle which I just watch like anything else. I kinda like both and now I understand why people do both.

I watch seasonal anime so I tend to watch multiple at once. I mean, it's kind of like TV shows. You don't just watch one show and one show only. And they're easy to keep track of imo. Unless you have a habit of watching things with very similar storylines...

I much prefer to stick to 1 or 2 at a time. It makes me enjoy them much more. I think it's easier to immerse yourself if you aren't trying to experience 30 different worlds and stories at once.

when it comes to episodic anime i always watch one ep per a few days and while watching episodic i binge-watch dozens of episodes of those non-episodic animes but then i need a break from em after all those episodes and so i start another and then another and then another ... its a cycle :DD

I usually watch three at a time if I'm watching seasonal anime as well. I watch one show to fill in the gap of waiting for another week. I find that if I can't watch too many at the same time. So I watch two seasonal anime and one anime that's finished airing.

I'm currently watching and keeping up with around 20 series every week (seasonals) and I have no trouble following the stories at all. It's like my brain stores every Anime in a separate room and whenever I watch the next episode, I'm able to recall what events occured in the previous ones. I usually don't lose any important information or confuse an Anime's storyline with another's, or whatever.

Sometimes I'll binge-watch a series though. Depends on my mood and how much free time I got, honestly. Otherwise, I have the ability to keep up with many different series at once, so why wouldn't I watch 5-6 different series' episodes in a single day or 20+ per week? It feels like you progress slowly, sure, but you end up completing the series whenever they end almost without realizing it, instead of watching them separately once they're done airing. I feel like it becomes part of my daily routine to watch a few episodes of Anime and I don't even realize I spend ~2 hours watching episodes per day, versus binge-watching a 12-episode (or more) Anime in a single day (or 2 days), where almost all your free time goes towards that, you know? Anyway, that's my take on that.

It depends on what kind of anime I'm watching. If it's a seasonal or an anime that needs to be 'serious', I usually only watch 1-2 anime for a day. But if it's a light anime like comedy, slice of life, I can watch a few anime at once.

I'm a binge-watcher. That's how I started from day one. Two times I've tried to watch an anime while it was airing, first with Grisaia no Rakuen and second with Rewrite Second Season. It really didn't work out well. Since it's only one episode per week I had to watch other anime in-between and it would just take away from my enjoyment of the shows. There's also the thing about simply forgetting what is happening in the shows, had a hard time rating Rewrite season 2 in particular 'cause I'd forgotten like half of it by the end. I like to focus on one show entirely and I never drop an anime once I start it. I feel like this way I can fully enjoy it without other distractions. I do pick my anime carefully, though.

Thank you everyone for your incredible responses! I read every single one, and you guys have good points.. I understand, that something can suit someone more than the other. Personally, I do one at a time.. I'm really new into anime, so maybe It will change over the course of the time, but so far, It's like that. Maybe, if there was some long shonen I'm planning to watch like One Piece, Bleack, HxH or something, I would consider watching two. Also.. It's a different story with seasonal animes, right? But since I haven't seen many, many animes consider classic or 'must watch' pieces, I have plenty stuff to catch up on..

Thank you everyone once again. You can still post your stance on this subject, I'll be reading them.

This what you said, Is really, really relatable to me. I love to pay attention to one and only one anime, do research about it and just not getting distracted by others.. Also I feel like dropping anime, if it's not.. 100+ episodes and more, I just couldn't drop, cause It might just get better. Since I haven't seen many shows yet, I pick my anime carefully too, before I rush and dive into something.

I know right. I've said to myself I'll probably never watch something like Naruto and it's 500 episodes. There's no way I won't get bored midway through. The only really long anime I've watched is Yu-gi-oh duel monsters but that's for childhood nostalgia reasons. I'll finish it one day.

I usually pick what to watch based on my mood at that point, so I watch a ton simultaneously. Like, it's hard to concentrate and enjoy a drama to its fullest when I'm in the mood to watch some hype fight scenes. I also end up starting new anime just because I find them interesting, this practice has helped me find some real gems that I'd normally not give a chance since I would otherwise have to wait until I've finished my current watching list. Rarely do I find anime that hook me so hard that I end up binging them.

Honestly, i think there's nothing wrong with watching a lot of anime at the same time. Sometimes, you just don't feel like watching an anime today that you've enjoyed so much just the evening before. I usually go through my watching list and pick something that fits my mood at that moment. I always have one comedy, one shounen and a romcom in my watching list to keep the variety. I rarely binge anime.

Also, I think you should just start an anime if it interests even if it really long, you don't really have to commit to the whole thing, I feel like what you're enjoying at the moment is the most important thing when it comes to entertainment. Like nobody's gonna give you shit for watching naruto over like, say, a few years.

In terms of finished series, I watch one at a time. I don't see how people can focus on multiple plots happening simultaneously. 2 to 3 is okay in my mind for other people but I see some people who watch like 13 at a time and I'm bewildered.

For ongoing series though, I think you can watch a few at a time because they're ongoing and you kind of have no choice but to wait in-between. Unless, you want to wait till the whole series is done to binge. I've done that before.

Well different people have different preferences. I know that a lot of people if not most watch seasonal anime while they're airing. It's just that for me that doesn't work. If I split my attention between multiple shows I feel like I'll end up enjoying each less than if I watched them separately. Also if the show is reeeeally good I can't resist watching more and more.
