But considering how popular Fate is as a franchise, it's still pretty surprising how unpopular Shirou is here considering this site is very active and reasonably large by a wide scale. Aside from Saber (considering she is the poster girl for the brand), he is incredibly eclipsed by almost every other major character skyrocketing well over 10,000+ favorites or rivaling him as you see with Rin and Gilgamesh. Even Sakura now overshadows him at 9000+ |

| I can't speak for others, but he always gave me that "default character" vibe. I don't dislike him, but he's very normal compared to everyone else in the show. It's similar to Araragi from Monogatari, but Araragi is weirder to say the least and he is much more popular in his series. |

| Plenty of reasons here: - Fate Zero fans in particular hate him. - Even for Fate/Stay Night fans, he may seem whiny and annoying. - Fate franchise offers a shitload of characters to choose from to pick as favorites. Naturally the love is gonna be more spread. - As a male he's overshadowed by the male servants that offer more "badass-ness", coolness and/or "husbando" material. |

He's entertaining to watch in terms of interacting with Rin, Saber, or any other characters, and AT LEAST he's not an oblivious character who is clueless to other people's favorite, he's a cool dude in my opinion. But I could understood why he's not very popular on MAL, there are other characters in the Fate series who are more popular than Emiya. | Because he kinda sucks as a character unless you're playing the Heaven's feel route. He's the annoying goody two shoes protagonist wanting to save everybody and refusing to fight/kill enemies even if they are completely evil assholes. Shirou also doesn't know anything about the HGW so he's constantly left clueless and doing stupid things without like jumping in front of Berserker without a plan while other characters try to actually win the war. So weak, incompetent, goody two shoes attitude and generally annoying are his main traits. Thankfully he does get better later on, especially if you play the Heaven's feel route but I can easily see why people wouldn't like him as a protagonist, especially if they watched Fate/Zero with Kiritsugu who is the exact opposite. |
