| I didn't expect dementia to be rated so low. Well, now that I properly look at dementia, there aren't many shows of that genre. It does have a few big stars like NGE, Higurashi, Perfect Blue etc., but that's basically it. Most other shows aren't very popular and have poor ratings. |

Most of the bizarre and unnerving shows (In a bad way) do seem to have dementia. That certainly explains why it is rated so low. |

| If you want to find out which genre is rated higher on average, I feel like this method penalises the genres with less entries. I mean, the 95th most popular drama (Hotaru no Haka) cannot be compared with the 95th most popular josei (which is in the very last place, a short music video with 244 members). EDIT: I noticed you only put genres with at least 500 entries, but the same reasoning can be applied to dementia (95th place is a short music video with around 1200 members). It might be more accurate if you take the top x% by popularity from each genre, or setting a lower limit in terms of members (like considering only the entries with at least 50k members). |

Dementia is filled with so many weird, experimental and unfathomable titles, like Utsu Musume Sayuri. A lot of the stuff with that tag just isn't made to click with many people. I'm not surprised lol |

| This is interesting but hard to interpret. It's not necessarily the case that higher rated shows are more highly liked by the community at large. It could also be the case that the audience of certain genres are more enthusiastic, or that more people rate them. |

| To be honest, while i like the detail in MAL genres, i cant help but feel they are over-bloated. I dont think there is a need to that much genres, like School is not a genre, its a setting, we can maybe use it as a tag, but it should not fall under a "genre". Nothing surprising, Drama will fall under any serious slice of life that has dramatic moments like a death of a certain character or a sad moment, things like that and people do find this engaging. Its a standard genre after all, so its expected to always score high on any medium, not just Anime. Shounen is also expected to be high because most Anime fans are originally fans of some shounen show, the genre is very popular and i would say along with the School/Harem Slice of Life its the face of modern Anime. Its pretty much what comes to the mind of any non-anime viewer you come across. Action/Comedy....yeah..nothing surprising. I do still think that due to the overbloated nature of genres on this website those broad genres like Drama and Action will obviously do better since the higher show will most likely feature at least a tag of them. At least more than the specific ones, especially since you took the top 100 and not the whole anime database. |

| Not to rehash old threads, but a genre is anything that classifies anime in an informative way. If there are a large number of people who want to find female protagonists, then that is a genre. If there are people who want to find anime that takes place in Europe, then that's a genre. If there are people who want to find anime about after school activities, then that's a genre. Why wouldn't it be? |

| This is such a fun and interesting idea! And it makes me want to show off more of my data collection because I know there are people out there who might think it's also cool to look at. Here's a spreadsheet I made a while ago because I was curious about that same thing. I constructed it to look at all the entries in the entire database so I could get an accurate representation of each one. Let me know what you think!
