I assumed it was Void who did the sacrificing to become a member of the god hand.

I dunno, wasn't there some condition that the person/people sacrificed to create a Godhand had to be someone important to the person they are being sacrificed for? Otherwise the sacrifice has no significance. I seem to remember that, at the very beginning of the Black Swordsman arc (before the flashback to Golden Age), there was some nobleman with a behelit who had the chance to become a Godhand if he sacrificed his daughter, and he couldn't do it. The way Gaiseric is holding the dying woman suggests a lovers' relationship, which makes me think he sacrificed her to gain power (I also seem to remember that one of the few things we know about Gaiseric is that he was the Alexander the Great of his day, constantly lusting after power and more worlds to conquer) and then immediately regretted it afterwards. It would certainly explain his immortality and knowledge of the Godhand.

Perhaps Zodd was also involved in this event. It's pretty clear that Zodd and Gaiseric have some kind of relationship stemming back to when they were both human, and I always suspected it was a Godhand/Eclipse event that caused the split between them.

I actually wondered if the sacrificed woman was Flora, Schielke's late mentor. If Gaiseric managed to save her from becoming a sacrifice, it would explain why she knew about the brand and how to hide it from bad spirits, and her long-standing relationship with Skull Knight.

One thing is clear, though: I have a lot of re-reading to do. :p

This chapter was like a Russian nesting egg. Miura style! I think he’s telling us a lot here. First and foremost is there is now a clear path to success laid out for Guts. He has hope in a sense, but it will ABSOLUTELY destroy him. The Skull Knight, I believe, killed all those previous God Hand members. This shows that it is possible for an armor bearer to do such a thing. Guts may potentially have the power to kill Femto. Potentially...On the other hand we see that this probably won’t happen or end well, or in an obvious way. TSK already tried to kill Femto and didn’t really come close. Void obviously survived TSK’s attack on TGH beta edition. Void and Femto are on similar god power levels and have similar time warping powers which are obviously very hard to counter with steel and rage alone. Berserk is not a redemption story IMO. It’s a story about trying. Trying to achieve what you believe in. Try until you die, and then claw your way back from the great beyond. Reinvent yourself and try again. One thing I have not heard discussed is what exactly is TSK now? He wore the armor, past tense, but at some point he took it off and died. So how did he make his Femto like transformation into his current skull state? I doubt he was ever a God hand himself, but...maybe. Maybe thats what we’re missing. He sacrificed his wife to become a Godhand. Maybe after achieving his demonic climax he had a ptsd rage out and killed his new homies? And maybe, this is telling us that Griffith may have something up his sleeve that none of us is expecting. A second GH betrayal? Who knows. Thanks for your service Mr.Miura

I saw long, flowing white hair and my mind went instantly to Griffith. Aside from that, the art this chapter was great.

This chapter, in the pannels we see Skull Knight past where his lover dies, the Skull Night vision starts to go blurry and Guts in real life goes quiet. Schierke quickly moves to help Guts cause she knew something was up in that momment and helps him. Guts after recovering his mind says "That right now...was for sure...the end-" and Skull Knight answers "what you bore witness to was the end of a foolish king, and the beginning of a dead man stalking the endless night".

My guess with all this said is that, Skull Knight also experienced the Eclipse(This case was Void's eclipse as we was centered) and had his lover killed, he then goes berserker mode and the armor completely consumes him, thats why the vision Guts had from Skull Knight past was starting to going blurry. The rage together with the armor consumed him and so it went all black. In consequence, Skull Knight ended killing 4 God Hand members and lost all his humanity, that's why he is no longer human but rather a "skull monster"(When Gut's said he saw the end maybe that's what he was refering to). Void was the only one left, maybe because what Void was to Skull Knight, Griffith is to Guts. I don't remember if Void and Skull Knight had any interactions but with this chapter it looks like they are related somehow.

Not the best explanation but yeah, i guess it all makes sense

Skull Knight might've been able to take down most of the God Hand when he got fully consumed by the Berserker Armor but he ended up losing everything in the process. While the God Hand ended up getting new members and continued what they were doing as always, Skull Knight lost his kingdom, lover, and body and he'll never get it back.

This was an absolutely chilling chapter that showed how everything Guts had fought for could end up being all for nothing unless he finds a way to surpass Skull King Gaiseric and finish the job once and for all...

This chapter was also so damn good that it rekindled my desire to read the whole story from the beginning to relive this greatness~

Maybe the woman in Gaiseric's arms was someone important to Void as well? Just how Casca was to Griffith? But I guess we dont know the details yet to be fully sure of what happened.

From what I remember from the Black Swordsman Arc, the Count (nobleman) would have been given another chance at life (as an apostle ofc) by the God Hand if he sacrificed his daughter. Besides, becoming a member of the God Hand requires a Crimson Behelit (not a normal one), probably a huge massacre (like the Eclipse), and only happens once every 216 years.

I dont think Gaiseric sacrificed the woman because he himself seemed to be dying when he was holding onto her. His eyes were closing and when Schierke was trying to remove the armor from Guts, Gaiseric's eyes seemed to have "dimmed out" in the armor. It has been said before that the previous owner of the Berserker Armor fought until it bled them of every last drop of blood.

I may be wrong but I think it was mentioned at some point that the armor SK is wearing now is keeping him "alive".

I think it was said that Zodd was feared in the battlefield for about 300 years. I think Zodd just has a history with SK (not when he was Gaiseric). Though it might be possible if apostles existed 1000 years ago. He also calls SK an "old friend", so who knows¯\_(ใƒ„)_/¯
.

I dont think Flora was the sacrificed woman. I think Flora's relationship with SK is like Schierke's relationship with Guts. In Volume 28 Proclaimed Omens, SK himself says it to Schierke and Guts - "We were friends. Exactly like the two of you now.".

But Flora was definitely there during that time because in the same chapter, SK says - "Indeed. That armor is something I once wore. In the distant past...when we (SK and Flora) lived within the reason of time.".

Also, in the same chapter, Schierke says - "She (Flora) claimed the Berserker Armor was a very dangerous fetish and prudently applied a seal to it...yet she always gazed upon it somewhat longingly.". I think that Flora helped out Gaiseric with the armor just how Schierke is helping out Guts with the armor.

very interesting chapter and the posts here are great. we now know for sure that skull knight is the former king gaiseric, he sacrificed a woman (looks like fairy queen but could be schirke's mentor).
maybe the king didn't become godhand, because there were already 5 of them up there and no one looked like skull knight, he could be a simple apostle or an existence separate from godhand, or maybe a friend of him became godhand (void) like others said here

Found something else that supports this. In Volume 26 Claw Marks, Flora brings out the Berserker Armor for the first time and this conversation takes place -

Skull Knight: There's no way you are unaware how dangerous a thing this is.
Flora: I am aware. I have watched over it for so long.

The chapter itself is very interesting and even more so after the recent chapter we got.

I think maybe I should wait a couple of years to read chapters.. for some reason, I don't feel the satisfaction I felt with every chapter until a dozen chapters back. And, it's really the 'direction', IDK how to describe it in terms of manga..

Okay so here’s my theory, at first I thought that this was Slan before she was a Godhand but as many people have stated above, the curse mark located on her shoulder eliminates her from being a Godhand since she was intended as a sacrifice.

So who is this mystery woman who looks a lot like Griffith? Is this just some form of reincarnation? It would explain why my man Griffith is so damn sexy. However I don’t think that’s the case or at least the route that Miura isn’t going in.

So based off of the vision, we can conclude that this mystery woman is in the reason that the Skull King, the previous owner of the Berserker armor, lost control of the armor. It’s not revealed what the Skull King’s relation to this woman is but it’s obvious that it is some form of a love interest. SK could have lost control of the Berserker armor because of his love for this woman.

This is where I feel it ties in to what Guts is experiencing now. Gut’s hatred for Griffith is what allows the Berserker armor to take over Gut’s body. This is why I feel that Miura decided that the character design for the woman in the vision and Griffith look very similar.

I hate overanalyzing things and making too many assumptions but love and hate are two polar opposite emotions that are very strong. Skull King’s love for this woman and Guts’ hatred for Griffith were the things that consumed each user of the Berserker armor.

So in summary, this was an omen for Guts to be aware of his consuming hatred for Griffith because it will eventually lead to his demise.

either they die Or there is a rule where once the 5th godhand is found and then the 4 Angels are summoned on the physical realm the other 4 must leave and the 5th one which was void is required to recruit 4 more godhand which means Femto currently if he succeeds to summon The 4 godhands in the physical realm after they destroy everything the 4 void, slan, ubik and conrad would once again leave and The 5th one femto would need to recruit 4 more godhands to once again repeat the process

after reading this chapter, i have a theory. there is a common theory that guts is skull night's son and i believe that and also, the women who died in the dream is most likely skull night's wife. BUT, she also looked a lot like griffith. so, what if grifith is also skull night's son. his first son with his wife. and guts and griffith are actually brothers ??????? that would be crazy.
