I never read the manga, but I like the show. The VAs and narrator seem perfect to me.

However, by the end of it I was thinking that this would have worked better as a shorter anime as seeing three stories all at once of their battle may get boring after awhile. We'll see though. For now I thought it was fun.

Can't exactly say that I agree with all the hype and interest this show is getting. The production values are high, of course, but the actual content of the romance is lacking, and the comedy aspect tied to the romance is... decent at best.

It is amazing how clouded the two main characters are, for all their "intelligence". Forfeiting happiness, progress, and stimulation in order to maintain their "pride", whatever that is supposedly worth. I suppose I simply find it irritating when two people, who obviously have feelings for each other, dance around the subject and take the coward's path at every opportunity, leading to repetitious episodes that rarely build character or progress their relationship in any meaningful way, instead of having them start off in a relationship and have them work upwards from that point.

For example, two prodigies that are able to begin the relationship, but obviously have no idea what they are doing and have a lot of pressure and responsibility weighing down on them, battling for dominance/power of the relationship despite truly only wanting the other's company and affections. At which point there is still that power struggle that allows this form of "comedy" while allowing for actual progress. Instead of a slice-of-life, we get an actual story to unfold.

Perhaps I'm the minority on this, but I can't help but express personal disappointment. After shows like 'Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun' and 'My Little Monster', I'm certain that 'Kaguya-sama: Love is war' isn't my type of show, yet I can definitely see potential for something I would actually like.

TL;DR - Decent anime overall that could be so much more, but it shackled by the psychological/comedy themes. Glad to see others are enjoying it more than me, though. I'll try to stick it out, but we'll see.

What honestly made this anime iconic and popular isn't really the first several chapters, it is the journey and the immense development that happens later on, and even with the episodic nature it may have right now, a lot of the moments get referred to and back many times.

It was finding its way at the beginning (of the manga) and this manga (and anime) received universal acclaim.

Stick with it for a while and you might appreciate it a lot.

Hmm... I intend to stick through it anyway (I hate dropping shows unless absolutely necessary), but thank you for the response. You have my curiosity going now lol.

Here's to hoping that it will surprise and impress me (and others who are currently skeptical).

The OP is catchy, it really gives out a 90's kind of vibe

Don't know about the adaptation tho coz I've never read the manga before but judging by how everyone is saying, the adaptation is great.

So the premise of the anime is that Kaguya and Shirogane competes with a certain challenge and see who wins for the day, really like the premise you can support which team you like

#TeamShirogane ftw

Too much narrator for me. I'm more okay with tons of inner monologue than tons of narration.

I like the story though. I'll just hope there'll be less narration or I'll get used to it. Although, there's a low possibility on the latter.

HOW DARE KAGUYA DOUBT CHIKA-SAMA!

Chika-sama must be protected at all times. The two MCs can go fuck themselves.

Kidding aside, I love the premise of the show and it was pretty funny. I'm looking forward to more episodes. That octopus wiener scene was overly dramatic and I loved it.

Well I don't know what happened but I think it was ok at best. I checked it out because the score is over 8, but it feels like a 6.5 anime.
The character design and animation was weird, the narrator's voice was annoying, and I didn't find the sketches funny at all. I'll stay for the air head secretary. I liked her a lot.

Hated it. For the first 8 minutes I was hooked like everyone else, but the rest of the episode was incredibly boring. Too much narrator and innecessary camera movement. The characters are annoying, very dumb and stupid, prideful and inmature. Also very unrealistic and boring to see their internal thoughts. Too much "what if" and 0 action. The total opposite of Chika, I could see myself loving that cute girl.

Was expecting a rom com with "intellect" wars between two elite people... and didn't get either romance, comedy nor smart intellect conflict like in death note (with a romantic flip). Main characters are the worst I've seen in rom com in a long time.

Totally dissapointing. This anime and manga has so many positive reviews that I really want to force myself to like it or find the appeal everyone is talking about. I don't know if I'm watching it with the wrong expectations in mind or what.

Completely agree. I'm dissapointed and I don't understand the hype about this show. I'm seriously forcing myself to find something good about it, even checked the manga, but the main characters are so stupid and inmature that I end up disliking everything else due to the terrible main characters.

They're stupid, prideful and inmature. Really hated the main characters. It was exactly that what I found dissapointing in this anime. They sold it as a very clever war of love, but I get two stupid teenagers with superiority complext that are not even funny.

I still get why people like this (I'm still not really into it), but the hype is way too much. They even call it the rom com of rhe DECADE... wth.

I dont know what you expect, its tagged as comedy, of course some of the characters would be dumb for comedic purpose, try to mention some of comedy anime you actually liked.
and the hype just mean there are many people excited about the show, is there any problem with that?

If it stays like this for the rest of the show, I might not enjoy it as much as I thought I would going into it. These two are way too proud and how they overthink situations isn't really that clever. Also having seen Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku episode 7, I can't take the narration and explanations seriously. The production quality is pretty good, though, so props to A-1 Pictures for that.

That said, I'll stick with it for a few more episodes. I thought Takagi-san was going to be weak, but I ended up really liking it.

That was a very distinct opening sequence, both the visuals and the vocals were in sync, it's not perfect, but after reading the synopsis, it makes the perfect sense, it's going to be a hard game of tag.
This is definitely something new to my taste, it's hella enjoyable and fun, so many great romantic and hilarious moments I might just stick with the show. I'm pretty sure I don't have a favorite Rom-Com Anime yet, this might just be the one after all.
I so much like the competitive nature of this confession, it makes me excited, like seriously, who is it going to be? I'm just going to say both at the same time for now.
Shirogane reminds me of the male protagonist of Toradora, he's got the killer eyes alright. And Kaguya gives me the vibes of Ayumi from Charlotte.

Personally that was how I felt when I started the manga, it sold itself off as a battle of war a la death note so that what I expected but really early on the manga I noticed... it really isn't about that. So I put it on hold for a long time, once I came back to it with the mentality that it is a comedy first and foremost and to not expect smart battle I enjoyed it a lot more and it became one of my favorite manga, it's just a matter of expectation really.

There's also an interview with the author where he says that it has become a case of fraud title since it is barely about the battle of mind anymore, he also said that he started focusing more on making the character react after chapter 5... which we went past and beyond already, so the "battle of war and love" really only lasted for 4 chapter at its core. There's still a little of it but it's for sure not the main focus like it might seem to advertise itself as.

In conclusion, if you really want to enjoy this anime, drop all your expectation about battle of mind and just watch it for the comedy and the characters, if you can't do that I'm sad to say that you won't probably enjoy this anime.

How cute.

No, seriously.

It is definitely a stylish show, as much as one can presume from witnessing merely the first episode. Kaguya's relationship with Miyuki is the epitome of overthinking – an exceedingly amusing example of it, that is. I am definitely looking forward to seeing more of the duo.

And Chika, that girl... She is in a league of her own. I love Chika's airheaded self.
