I'm not asking this because I'm depressed or anything but I'm more likely to fall for depression in the future, so I'm asking beforehand.
I request you not to include R+ animes and it should not have more than 24 episodes. It would be nice if you can give a short reasoning.
If you try to find out who or what I am all that's waiting for you is despair

I don't recommend slice of life, the last thing i want when i'm depressed or ever from anime is a reflection of real life. I look for worlds that i can escape to, specifically ones with great world building and adventure are the best, those i can fully embrace.

I recommend Magi, you don't need to watch the sequel and prequels after/before it but if you really enjoy it they're there if you want them.

Saiki Kusuo no psi nan always cheers me up.
It's an very episodic comedy slice of life show with a supernatural aspect.
What I like about it so much is the characters, despite being total cliches they are extremely lovable and I could watch Teruhashi smile for decades without getting bored.

S1 of Amanchu really lifted my spirits when I was all down or Usagi Drop because it'll make you realize how lonely you really are.

I did see a comment above stating that they'd rather not watch SoL when depressed but I would highly recommend SoL to you in the situation. I spent over a year with a depressed person who constantly watched SoL shows when his depression reached peak. Then again, these things seem highly subjective so you might have to look through a variety of genres to see what suits you best when feeling depressed.
In my case, although I only got "borderline-depressed"(as I like to call it), I couldn't watch anime at all.
So I seriously think that it all comes down to you. Depression is, afterall, an extremely complicated and subjective matter.

If you want something long, funny, and not too serious, Urusei Yatsura and Ranma 1/2 from what I hear are both great romantic comedies. They have over 100 episodes each, so if you want something light and long, they might do the trick.

Note I have not watched either, somebody who has seen them can confirm whether they might be good when you're depressed
You have shit taste, and then I have taste so shit it makes your taste look good

I second this, saiki is great. Other great ones I think would be both Barakamon and its prequel Handa-kun

I don't know if you've read the manga but according to it(no spoiler by the way) obviously if they adapt as they did in previous seasons, should be the best season..
If they make a 3rd season any time soon, i hope they adapt the full manga..

169 chapters so far that hasn't an anime yet.

In 35 episodes they could do it easily.
I can't die without watching the anime first. I just can't.

Where will you be when depression strikes?

Well whatever you do, don't watch Welcome to the NHK, a lot of people who were already depressed had suicidal thoughts while watching that one.

If you want something funny and light, I'd recommend:
Daily Lives of Highschool Boys
Grand Blue
Gamers
Ben-To

If you want a little adventure and simple, I'd say:
Mushishi
Mystic Archives of Dantallian
Gosick
UN-GO

If you want some kinda shounen but not too serious, I'd tell:
Bungou Stray Dogs
Durarara
Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu ga?
World Trigger

If you want some romance and drama, I'd request:
Momokuri
Kaichou wa Maid-sama
Kimi ni Todoke
Yamada-kun and 7 Witches

When I was in a (clinical) depression for over a year the manga that I was really drawn to and inspired by was Berserk. Guts is in a constant struggle throughout the whole thing and even when it seems like things are going well there's usually another tragedy around the corner. The fact that he never gives up and just keeps fighting even when people despise him is incredibly inspiring and something many depressed people can relate to. It's easy to draw parallels between guts' struggle and depression in general, especially if you think of it as a metaphor.

When it comes to anime on the other hand, I really loved WataMote. Also a character you can relate to and have a laugh at your own expense. It makes things easier when you can see someone else go through similar social problems (if you do have those kinds of problems).

well. I've been basically depressed most of my life and Anime is primary thing that kept me going to so extent.

So essentially any Anime is good for me as I like Anime in general.
But eh.. If I'm more depressed than usual I usually enjoy watching mind twisting Anime or sad series :/ ... somehow fulfilling.

Aside that watch something straightforward. Comedy or action or such.

Go watch comedies! They always seem help perk up a brooding-timid person like me. Even if I only try to watch a random episode not try the rewatch the whole thing. (LOL)

So check out: Sakamoto desu ga? (Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto), Nichijou (My Ordinary Life), Daily Lives of High School Boys, Galaxy Angel, Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei, Hataraku Maou-sama! (The Devil Is a Part-Timer!), Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!), Saiki Kusuo no Psi nan (The Disastrous Live of Saiki K.), Hinamatsuri, Hoozuki no Reitetsu (Hoozuki's Coolheadedness), Barakamon, Osomatsu-san, Space Dandy, D-frag, and Detroit Metal City.

I hope you'll find something that interest and help you. 'While there's life, there's hope'.

There is nothing anti depressive about watching two psychopaths beating up a guy until he bleeds for the sake of comic relief despite the fact that the anime simultaneously preaches an anti parental abuse. OP is more likely to get PTSD

I'm not exactly the best person to ask since I'm a positive person and don't really get depression. I've bounced back pretty quickly from sad things like deaths in the family.

Well, I've seen a lot of shows, I can assure you that this isn't your generic high school show. It has a different vibe to most of them and the pace is different. The art is subjective so I can't argue with that. But I think you should give it a try, it was a pleasant surprise for me, I didn't expected anything about it too and I enjoyed it. But of course it's your choice, I won't say anything more.
