An original anime titled Shikizakura is in the works by studio Sublimation, with broadcasting station Chukyo TV as part of the production committee. The sci-fi drama project, which will have a duration of 12 30-minute episodes, will consist of a mixture of 3DCG and traditional animation. It is scheduled to be completed by 2020.

Shinya Sugai (Mahoutsukai no Yome CG director) will helm the series, and Tomoyasu Nishimura (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society) is the producer. Character designs will be provided by K&K Design. The companies involved in this production are all based in Nagoya, where a voice acting audition for the show will also take place.

Oh boy, that rarely combines well imo. But then again; it might be a bit to early to judge beforehand. We'll see how that will turn out.

I think the mixture of 2D and 3D can work but it really depends on the people behind it so. I'll just go and wait.

Nice cover image. Could really go either way, don't see much reason to get excited or skeptical at this point.

It looks like it has artistic potential, hopefully, the story holds up with it.

I wonder how you will watch anime in the next 5 years because thats where we are heading.

Hell even know almost every show incorporates cgi somewhere

sorry I should've said "primarily 3d animation ruins everything"... and it's most of the time, but sometimes it works (see: Fireball).

also I'm still working my way through the many many anime from the past that I've yet to see so I'm set. But still, seeing the rise of 3D is disheartening. The recent Berserk adaptations for example...

The recent Berserk adaptations ended up pretty badly due to the assets than anything. I won't deny that it doesn't negate that... eh, the entire production for that was extremely inconsistent.

However nowadays CG or 3D has been incoperated in some shape or form. I know you said primarily 3D which can be entirely, but still, I guess it's just the wording soooo.

I'm not deciding until I see a PV, the CG may not be good.

It looks basic but I guess the pv can decide that.

I'm going to predict that Fall 2020 would be the best season for the show to air.
