Mass Effect Andromeda is a broken rushed mess worse than Dragon Age Inquisition.

TLDR:

  • Designed identically to Dragon Age Inquisition in that it is pretty much Open World collectathon with single player mmo fetch quest filler everywhere. Same map structure, same pointless huge maps with dozens of item icons, same busywork "collect 12872872 of this" quest structure.
  • Unlike Inquisition however, Andromeda does not have any notable interesting characters or story beats.Despite the idea of new galaxy, new worlds, new characters, new races, the plot is braindead re-tread of the same old. You shoot at generic new badguys(now with added unfortunate implications of "brave colonists against evil natives!" narrative), your characters make some dumbest observations possible("LOOOK THE ROCKS ARE FLOATING", "THis must be some sort of alien machinery!") that literally clashes with the idea of this being "hand-picked crew of non-military explorers".
  • Despite touting exploration and science and setting up this to be mostly civilian expedition into unknown, you are shooting at things within first 20 minutes and "exploration" theme does not go beyond the juvenile mechanics of "finding loot" or "finding materials".
  • VA work and dialogue structure is awfully written and awfully acted. Here's an example.
  • Utterly janky robotic animations. Nobody looks normal and its arguably WORSE than first mass effect was.
  • Framerate issues, animation glitches, technical glitches, bugs.

Inquisition was the last straw for me regarding Bioware. After that I couldn't find any reason to support them any longer. This just reinforces my belief.

Bring back the good ol' days of KOTOR, Baldur's Gate and Origins :'(

Let's not use the "fake news" fallacy considering that nonsense is being used by litteral nazi in the white house. Journalist pieces are opinions sure, but there are clear rules of transparency nobody would risk their jobs to break.

Also its not like its just media who tried the game. The game trial has been available to everyone with Origin First Access membership.

Nobody expected this to be WORSE than Inquisition(at least inquisition had some fun characters and some decent plots hidden among all the shit). Or that it is not even technically made by "Bioware"(its made by a side studio that made Arrival DLC for ME2 and Omega DLC for ME3 and has not done anything else at all)

No, it's true. And yeah, I read that RockPaperShotgun article days ago. The EA Access and reviewer version is not encouraging at all, the playthrough videos only hit the nail on the head. The only hope is that the full release with the Day One patch would clear some of the texture problems and maybe even the dreadful animation, which is now almost a meme online.

But the story..............holy...........I......don't know what to say. Maybe it's because it's the first two missions only, but it's still unbelievable. I know it's too much to expect this new Bioware to even write something comparable to the old team that did the old games or even Mass Effect 3 but it shouldn't have been this bad. Best case scenario, it would be like the first ever Mass Effect where it starts off slowly then gets more interesting. Worst case, the whole game will be just as bad as the beginning.

The only thing I liked so far is the gameplay. They improved on that. It's like ME3 on steroids and since there are no more classes or the Paragon/Renegade system, there will be some fun to be had over there.

To be fair to the game, maybe it's because we're all still bummed out about ME3's ending controversy, so everyone is nitpicking minor details here and there. But it is still undeniable, what we've seen so far is way below everyone's expectations. Not backing out of my preorder, though. I consider myself a hardcore fan of the series and I want to be there among the first either praising or jeering the game when the time comes.

Oh no, nothing like that. I just don't place much stock in supposedly unbiased paid reviewers. It's all opinions, and the only opinion on a video game's quality that matters to me is my own. I could still enjoy it even if they say it's bad. I'm not going to just take their word for it.

Mass Effect fans have been angry at Bioware since the third game's ending, so it's not like they're the most unbiased of sources either. And, given other open world titles floating around recently, there are bound to be needlessly raised standards for others.

Indeed you must have missed all the forum wars here when ME2, Da2 and ME3 released.

the trailer already was way worse than Inquisition. For all Inquisition's faults, animation quality is not one of them.

Imo, it is best to judge a game once you play it yourself. Expecting something to be bad before you try it isn't so bad either. Atleast that way there is a chance that the game can surprise you in a good way. With that said, Andromeda does have a chance of messing up but I won't let it bother me.

Also, if you meant to say that da inquisition was bad then it has to be your own personal opinion because I myself quite enjoyed it.

I've enjoyed anime with bad animations before and there's a chance I'll enjoy this with ridiculous animations as well.

I'll withhold judgement until reviews start popping up, that focus on other aspects of the game besides visual ones.

Sad to hear that its a broken release, those animationbugs look awful

But if its just buggy and the actual game is fun then im very optimistic that Bioware will fix it in a couple of months and then ill buy

Bioware are still the good guys in my book, when the community hated ME3 ending they listened and made a free extended-cut DLC that actually made the ending good
So i still believe in them

I wouldn't say that made the ending "good". There wasn't really anything that could've fixed it considering the direction they took the narrative. However, It was better than the original state, so I'll give them some credit i guess.

I feel like a lot of the problem with Bioware isn't even as much EA, but moreso the toxicity of their community starting to seep into their development decisions. Don't get me wrong, I love Mass Effect 1-3 (yes, even 3), and I liked alot of their older games. But DA2, and even DA:I to some extent were awful, and Andromeda is looking to be more on that same track.

Well imo, there's like only one trusted source in those links and it's not Kotaku, that's for sure. That said, we'll just have to wait till it ships. I highly doubt the game is gonna be super glitchy to the point where it's unplayable. Only because some reviewers say that their playthroughs have been rough doesn't mean it's gonna be a bad game.

I feel like ME Andromeda is gonna be great. I for one can't wait to jump in and play it.

Well, Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 were both not only well-optimized games, they were good experiences. Star Wars: Battlefront before those two was mediocre, though. EA still does stupid shit but they are no longer the evil or out of touch gaming company anymore.

That "honor" now goes to Konami.

Read on Gamefaqs that the team who worked on this were the people who did the ME trilogy DLCs, not the main game. If that's real, it's even more sad.

Its Dragon age inquisition collectathon looter shooter gameplay. That's the opposite of good. And as outlined above most of previews find the characters dull and VA work awful. Its filled with worst "cinematic" cliches and character behavior contradicts the setting.

Yeah, I've already heard about that. Bioware's animations have never been amazing but this is Bethesda levels of bad. ME1 easily had better animations and that's a 10 year old game.

Not looking good for Bioware. A lot of youtubers are making fun of the game including Pewdiepie.

Honestly the company should be ashamed they put out such an unpolished product.

I mean, i cant render my final judgement until i see the final product, but this might actually end up being worse than DA2. Which, is a feat in itself, considering i didn't think they could have shit out a more broken game.

"To me, that's the saddest part. The chief's heart was broken right before it exploded."

This is legitimate and real freaking quote from the game.

Yes someone actually though this line up, wrote it, got it approved by higher ups and did not bat an eyelash at it. And then they got paid for it.

A friendly reminder again that Mass Effect Andromeda is made by entirely different studio than any other Bioware games. Beyond two maybe three leading position people from ME3 it has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of bioware. Bioware is just a trademark EA owns that they can put on any studios they want.

Bioware Edmonton is the "main" Bioware that was that worked on mass effect and dragon age games. I use the past tense because most of the creative circle long since left the company. By industry hush hush they are apparantly working on a "new project" which is supposedly some sort of EA answer to Destiny and Division. As well as working on the next Dragon Age(considering the ending of Inquisition)

Bioware Austin only really worked on World TORcraftThe Old Republic. They are doing "polish-up work" on Andromeda.

Bioware Montreal is the main studio developing Andromeda. They developed a whopping ZERO of games. Their only cred is ME2 Arrival DLC and Me3 Omega DLC. Andromeda is literally first game they ever made.
