why do people cry when a anime character whether its a main character or side character dies? To be realistic, they are just a drawn character that an author who made that series that can kill any character like a push of a button. when a guy dies, the only thoughts i have is that this dude could be a potential harem king or he deserve it. when a girl die, i always say that this girl could have bigger breasts or "Fk, well, theres goes person who have oppai's" but neither of them i show any tears. so why do some people shed a tear towards a anime character? Its usually romance or drama anime categories. shigatsu or clannad for an example.
(idc you can me a cold hearted man. i love action, harem and ecchi, not romance or drama)

I cry over anime characters when they die all the time, I care more about them then the real people in my life.

It's called an emotional attachment

because, wowie OP, some people are different from you and feel attached to characters so they get upset when they see them die. astounding that not all human beings are the same and don't think the same way as you. woah.

I have never cried to any anime or manga before, even the ones with huge feels to it. I came close to crying reading Sundome though. Then again I don't cry at funerals or when someone I know dies, so I guess my emotional regulation has a higher tolerance to stuff like that than others.

Edit: I do cry when animals or my pets die though lol; I feel sadder when animals die than humans because humans are usually assholes anyways.

Probably because people get atacched to the charatcers, and even if they are not real, seeing them go can be sad.

Empathy and sympathy are emotions most of us have, and by some chance most of anime fan base can strongly get attached to a character and thus can cry for them :')

I'm not saying everyone should have the same view as me, its just a simple question why do people are crying over a drawn characters.

Sometimes we grow attached to the character, and when they leave, it's the feeling of never going to see them again in the series that makes us sad (Most of the time).

Because if fictional events were unable to evoke emotional responses from an audience, they would not be and never would have been a part of human culture.

This thread is literal autism.

The way some deaths are handled are brutally depressing to many viewers because its's usually done to a character that they love, who either lives long enough to say some potent last words, or dies in order to see his/her relatable and satisfying dream shattered before the audience's eyes. It helps to get some well fitting emotional music and show how badly it affects a character close to the one who just died. Hell, a character that people hated can have a cruel death due to how badly he/she suffers before they die, especially if we now understand what drove them to the brink of the Moral Event Horizon.

I've personally never cried over an anime character before (I've only managed to shed 1 year in the last two years) but some deaths are really tragic like in real life, weather or not the victim is real.

I don't generally get attached to characters to the point I actually cry, but I do get teary eyed sometimes.

Manly tears are an exeption though.

Watching something give you an emotion, so it's normal to cry when watching someone die. I personally cry a lot when some characters die. I know it's 2D but anime is so much related to me, I can't help

As you keep watching an anime series like one piece or naruto..you get emotionally attached to every single character in the story and you feel like you are also a part of their everyday life. When someone suddenly dies it comes as a huge shock and it hits you like hell and if its the character that you relate with a lot then don't even get me started. But at the end of the day it depends on you and how you feel! But that doesn't mean everybody is like you...everyone has their own interpretation of life.

From what I know, they may be unrealistic, fictional and non-existed, but when you like the character, care for them, feel concern or at least invest your emotion to the characters, you will be able to feel for the character.

Well,... I dunno what to say about your post...
Would you think something ecchi or harem if someone irl passed away?

Just kidding, because people build up attachment to those characters so it upsets them if the character dies

They invest in them emotionally, emphatize or symphatize. Same as why people cry at disasters somewhere else, when pets die etc.

It's because IT'S ANIME. Ever looked at cartoons and noticed how emotionless they are ? well most cartoons are like that but not anime. most anime are focused on emotions.
dont't watch that anime if you are going to give it 1* and cry 10000 words in review about it.

Because of human nature.

A good anime makes you care for the characters and when things or people you care for die (even on screen) you'll feel sad and some people cry.

But personally, I never cried because of the death of a fictional characters, but I'm a heartless jerk ^^

OT: You can't relate to us pussies who cry about drawings because all you enjoy about anime is boobs, as far as I can see judging from your profile.

Because people(including me) tend to emathize with anime characters, and they get emotionally attached to them which saddens them when they die. Won't you feel sad when a person that you are emotionally attached to dies? If yes, then it's pretty much the same thing Sherlock.
currently in a state of denial

actually not only drama or romance anime, I cried more for shounen and sports anime ( even tho in sports anime no one really died ) lol
ofc we know they're ficional characters, however with every episode those characters grow on us, we get attatched to them so it's only normal to cry, ofc it's normal not to cry too , not everyone is emotional for anime characters

Cause people get attached to characters and they feel almost part of the plot. This also happen in non animated media, including books.

People who don't ever let a fictional character's death, won't understand, and they don't have to, just being considerate

Sooo basically you don't care about anything that happens to the characters in the series you watch? Why are you even watching anime to begin with then? Or more like how can you even find any enjoyment in fiction at all?

This^
The point of fiction is that the watcher should be able to relate to the character on some level.
If you can't then you should ask yourself why you bothered watching it in the first place..

It's very simple. You've watched this character go from A to B and have grown fond of them or understand them in one way or another so when something bad happens you feel for them. Emotional attachment is crucial to certain series' success and some writers can capture that with spades.

Also in anime especially they REALLY draw out the emotion with long dialogue and heavy hitting music at crucial points which just adds to the feels.

I'm not saying everyone should have the same view as me, its just a simple question why do people are crying over a drawn characters.

It's the same as crying over a characters death in a film, a lot of people get encroached into media and as a result sometimes get emotionally attached to fictional characters. You should also note it might not be the death itself that makes people cry. A lot of the time the music being played can have a huge affect on the viewers emotions, but what also has a huge affect is the visuals. Often when a character dies we are shown other characters crying around them. To the vast majority of people we associate crying with sadness so to see characters crying can trick our brains into believing that character X's death is a problem that directly affects us.

I hope that cleared it up for you somewhat. Of course their are a plethora of other reasons but I've just quickly covered the reason that is generally applicable to most cases.

He's probably someone who watches anime for ecchi/hentai/comedy. I imagine he's the type who enjoys shows of a similar genre to Highschool DxD yet strongly dislike anime such as Your Lie in April and Clannad.
