What are your thoughts on The Fine Bro's failed attempt to copyright every reaction video? (Updated)

Seems like the Greed Fine Bros backed out of their React World program when the subscribers started dropping harder than a dubstep drop. Here's a link to a twitter message from them: https://medium.com/@FineBrothersEnt/a-message-from-the-fine-brothers-a18ef9b31777#.eaq12ey1n So yeah, congrats guys; The internet won against corporate tyranny. Let this be a message to anyone else who tries to copyright normal shit everyone has the right to do. Read on for the full story if you haven't already. [Original React World video] If you break apart everything they say into context, what their main goal seems to be is further monopolization and expansion of their company by way of copyrighting and licensing. They say they only want to protect their intellectual property, but everything they're doing behind the scenes suggest otherwise. Refer to this Reddit thread for more details: https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/43490c/the_fine_bros_from_youtube_are_now_attempting_to/czfpty2 And if everything the Reddit thread says is true about them, The Fine Bros would be entitled to receive a cut of any profits from any videos with "React" in their name, or just reaction videos in general. And considering the fact that react videos are a huge, huge part of YouTube, the community isn't exactly happy with this revelation of theirs, especially with how much they're trying to sugar coat it. Refer to this link that showcases their rapidly decliling subscriber count: http://www.livecounts.x10host.com/?channel=Fine%20Brothers%20Entertainment%EF%BB%BF Already down 1,000 since I got link just a bit ago, and down several dozen more thousand since the project was announced. But now it's in your hands MAL, to figure out if they're in the right or in the wrong. It's only natural to want to protect your intellectual property once it becomes widespread enough, but are they going too far? If this goes through, it will literally change YouTube forever and set a precedent for other companies and corporations to attempt something on the same scale. Decide the fates ~ |

I don't know why Reaction Videos have been exempt from copyright for so long other than it makes Youtube the green paper. Fair use can only be stretched so far. // Nvm. I thought this was about Youtube finally taking the videos that steal content down. But after watching the video I see its actually just two cunts trying to take credit for their work too. Business as usual I guess. |

Where they the pioneers on the whole "reacting videos" thingy? I mean if they were the first ones I COULD understand, but still is ridiculous is like if PewDiePie wanted to monopolize all the gameplays, now that would be scary |

Everyone defends their favorite youtuber's but its all business all your favorite youtube stars think about is their profits. So this isn't surprising. I get my entertainment from youtuber's I don't worship them like they're all morally upstanding people doing videos for the fans. They do it for the cash,. |

Yeah, just look at Chibi and how he doesn't want to make vids anymore just because he's not making money off them them anymore. Money makes the world go round I guess. And when you've had a decent taste of money you only want more of it, feat. Fine Bros. |

Yeah, bringing everyone closer to getting copyrighted and having a lawsuit filed against you for reacting to a cat video. What a bunch of great guys. @badwolf45f Yeah, they made some interesting and entertaining videos at some point, but like some people have already mentioned, the quality has been steadily going down over the years to the point where it's little more than trending trends rubbish and now they want to make even more money off their rubbish. Wait react videos weren't legal before? This video raises more questions than it answers. This reminds me of the time Candy Crush tried to copyright the word "candy." Or the time Coca Cola tried to copyright a shade of red (oh wait) So does that mean Markiplier and Smosh had to ask Fine Bros before they made Reaction videos to Kids React? Does this mean all of the game convention reaction videos, or the movie trailer reaction videos weren't legal? Because the Fine Brothers didn't license it? This is making the Fine Bros look way too sketchy. |

Fine Brothers said: We do not hold a copyright on reaction videos overall. No one can. React World is about licensing FBE's show formats, not just for shows like Kids React, but also others like "Do They Know It?," "Lyric Breakdown," and more. This is similar to TV where you can't make a show substantially similar to "America's Got Talent," but of course you can make a completely different talent competition series. Same deal here. I really don't see a problem with this. They're protecting their own format, that's all. |

I used to like TheFineBros, but their videos as of late have gotten stale. The novelty of reaction videos kinda wears off when you're reacting to stuff you'll get a fairly normal reaction out of. Jokes aside, now that I've bothered to watch the video, it's so obvious that they're bullshitting so much about the fact that they want to monopolise the term" react" to the pont it's hilarious. Buzzwords, sob stories, dramatisation, deal sweeteners, accusations, it's all there. Bonus points if you watch the guy who isn't talking during each section of the video. They look so genuine and composed. Totally trustworthy looking. |
