The previous version made the volume interval too narrow, so i think voters had a hard time picking. I thought that we would be better served if we have fewer options with wider volume interval.

ie.
1 Volume (One-Shot or collection of one-shots or extremely short manga)
2 - 9 Volumes (less than 100 chapters with 20 pages per chapter)
10 - 20 Volumes (between 100 and 200 chapters with 20 pages per chapter)
21 - 40 Volumes (Very long manga; takes a long time to read it)
40+ Volumes (long-running shounen jump)

*For manga with more pages per chapter, there would be less chapters per volume. 20-pages-manga usually have 8 - 10 chapters per volume. 40-pages manga usually have 4-8 chapters per volume

I think this is dependent on different factors, how for example the genre or the complexity of the story.
If I read romance-manga, I prefer a short series or if I like the characters and dier the plot also, maximum 100 chapters.
With shōnen like One Piece it does not disturb me long at all because the world is shown with very much detail and I can't have enough of this. ^^

There is nothing worse than a manga-series that is needlessly too long and isn't fun anymore to read.

I agree with the previous posters, it should only be as long as it has to. But if I had to put a number to it, I like series with 100 chapters (for listing reasons).

OP agrees with previous posts as well.

I doubt anyone would vote for the longest option though. Look at Naruto and Bleach, both of which ruined by the fact of trying to keep going and going no where.

I don't know about that. Some series do manage to stay strong after so many volumes, like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Detective Conan.

But then again, what about the mangas that don't even make it to their conclusion... Hunter X Hunter and Berserk will outlive their authors at the rate they are going.

They'll probably end like Doraemon.

I prefer longer series, but some are too long and some are so long that it is slightly difficult to re-read. My ideal length is at around 20 volumes.
That said, I enjoy one-shots and single to double-volumes series immensely for the compactness of it all.

I like 8 book series. 10 is a good max. Series at 36+ books is just crazy.

>100 chapters for weekly series
50-100 chapters for monthly series

I tend to think weekly series that only takes less than 100 chapters is somewhat get cancelled, therefore, I won't get enough story and satisfying ending.

10-20 volumes would be the max. After reading so various manga's, i realized that the plot dies after 100-200 episodes and becomes boring.

If it's a regular shounen, 100-200 chapters is great.
That's why I love Nobuyuki Anzai (MÄR, Flame of Recca...) XD
If it has solution, don't bother; and if it hasn't, why bothering?

it's really difficult to decide, there are many manga, that are worth being longer (somewhat like 350ch) but it still depends on the quality of the story after a long period of serializing.

Honestly it depends but I think 20-40 volumes would be decent, as long as the story can be told without adding filler

As long as possible, if I enjoy it I want it to go on. If I don't enjoy it I'll ignore it anyway.

150-200, but if it is really epic and doesn't drag I don't care

Anywhere between 100 to 150 chapters, mainly because both of my 10/10's are on that range.
Its not a good criteria by any means but still!

I don't care how long a series is, as long as it stays interesting.

That said, I prefer manga that are 10+ volumes to manga that are shorter. You have less time to build a relationship with the characters, and less time for plot.

So long as it reaches a conclusion that doesn't feel rushed, and doesn't drag on or add unnecessary filler, I don't mind how long it is.

this

i also like pure romance shoujo (like hirunaka no ryuusei) to be around 60-80 chapters. if they go over this number it becomes too much (cough kimi ni todoke cough)

BL/yaoi is best at 20-40 chaps. too less is shit (usually) and too much is pandering (junjou/sekaiichi/tyrant)

if it is not interesting and not popular max 50 chapters(not that unpopular manga go far anyways)
if its got a plot point and a slowly but interesting and progressive to a good extent then by all means 400 chapters but not beyond this point though otherwise it becomes silly

10-20 volumes, I prefer longer series, something about 15 is probably the best. But I like to read through something shorter from time to time.

as long as it takes to tell the story

As short as possible

15 volumes max

I dislike series that are too long and are too reitierative.

Most good manga are less than 10 volumes long

Depends, ofc.

Battle shounen: at least 100+ chapters, preferably 300+

Romance: no more than 200 chapters. Honestly, any longer than 150 is probably pushing it. Preference is <50, >100

For everything else, as short as possible.
